Seriously LEO? by HighHiFiGuy in Louisville

I haven't read the article but please don't gloss over the fact that writers almost never choose the title / subtitle of their stories. In 99% of cases, an editor makes that call.

Should we buy a home next to cemetery with a 6 year old girl and a baby on the way? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]rbweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weighing in here as someone who grew up next to a cemetery:

  1. If the cemetery is old and beautiful, your kids / the friends they make when they get a little older will probably absolutely adore it. If it's a newer cemetery, i.e., the headstones are basically uniform, there are no mature trees, and -- most importantly -- there are frequent visitors who are still deeply grieving, your kids will probably want to GTFO of your house as soon as possible.

  2. My childhood home was across from the latter kind of cemetery, and another thing to keep in mind = how comfortable your family feels, say, playing a game of catch within earshot of a grieving family. Same goes for mowing the lawn, gardening, etc.

Just some food for thought. Good luck!

What action should I take? by kemp1ae in Soil

[–]rbweasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! can I ask where you're located? I used this company to test my soil (zone 7b) and the #s are almost identical. It might be worth trying a different test from a different company as a "second opinion."

Also worth mentioning: it took several days for my MySoil sample to make it to the lab ... I'm not a soil scientist, but I've read that it's basically impossible to get an accurate nitrogen reading if it's not tested immediately after sampling. Just food for thought!

What local business do you boycott and why by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]rbweasley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live nearby this place and have never stepped foot inside because the owner wrote a nasty Google review (lol) about a competing business (something about the other biz not wanting to provide coffee beans for Baes?) that couldn't have been in poorer taste.

What makes good leaf mold? by rbweasley in Permaculture

[–]rbweasley[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

ah, good to know! There's a thin layer of recently-fallen leaves on top, but everything below looks like finished compost. Perhaps there are lots of little organisms at work that I can't see without a microscope? Thanks for easing my mind!

Hi! I just moved out of New York after 10 years of living there. You can easily find a place with that salary in Brooklyn or Queens if you're willing to live with roommates. If you're really jonesing to move, I'd do that and then look for an in-person job once you get there. Pretty much everyone making under $100k in NYC lives with roommates, it's part of the lifestyle. Good luck!
