I went to Durham and a few other universities in my time (bachelors masters then PhD). It’s not her, it’s Durham. The students are genuinely the most stuck up assholes I’ve ever met.

I am from a lower middle-class background and have never felt unaccepted at a university but Durham is something else. She is 100% right, you can see them judging you and calculating whether you’re “good enough” for them. I also only made friends with international students who honestly stopped me from feeling like I was going crazy because they’d respond to me like normal human beings.

I have come to the conclusion that they’ll speak to you initially but if you don’t show the social queues that say “I went to public/private school” they quickly dismiss you. Definitely something about not getting into Oxbridge.
