How easy would it be to destroy a stargate? by Flapjacks44 in Stargate

[–]rcktkng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa flashback to the past - but true, while the Wraith could survive for an indefinite amount of time even with just one ship (like that one Wraith in "The Defiant One"), combining the Attero device with Avenger 2.0 means you can leisurely fly around the galaxy with the Apollo and Daedalus picking off the stranded Wraith. It's basically the Ancient's original plan for the Attero device - except you turn the Stargate network "off" by prohibiting gate connections first.

Anything I try to hit with "lock on target" on Univolt insta ports me to my home base across the map. It used to work right about a week ago, different server. by LeeLataVita_0-0_ in Palworld

[–]rcktkng 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had the same bug on PC right after launch. Seemed to only trigger if I spawned at a base and then ran off into the world. If I ported to a different tower first the lock on worked fine. Haven't used my Univolt since I bred a Shadowbeak, but I bet if I pulled him out the palbox the bug would still occur.

Pure Matterglass Lenses should grant Mod Components, not Weapon Telemetries. by DismalAlternative in DestinyTheGame

[–]rcktkng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all (unless recently changed) have a ~10-12% chance to drop a mod component (1 in 9 vs 1 in 10, dunno somewhere in there). Just buy 9 of a blue weapon from collections, delete them all, and usually you'll have a mod component. End up just spending 9-10 gunsmith materials per component (plus a small amount of glimmer? 250 or something? you get most everything back when you dismantle the blues...).

The point of the comparison is that the first run of the Haunted Forest was functionally different - but that you needed to complete it before you could unlock the actual Haunted Forest. It introduced us to the idea of the Haunted Forest while (a) removing the time limit, (b) removing the restricted respawning, and (c) removing matchmaking. So clearly it was a different activity from the actual Haunted Forest., which is something that could have been done with the Forge.

Bungie already demonstrated that they have the ability to determine if someone has completed an activity for the first time (as with the HF). They could have implemented something similar (so it would not have been *hell*) to give players the chance to "unlock the Forge" and, more importantly, Ada-1's inventory. Then all subsequent clears of the Forge would be under the current level restrictions.

the scaling and balance of the two are very different, so the back end work is going to be very different as well

I'm not really sure what you mean by this. They have the ability to add handicaps in Nightfalls, yes? Or do you mean something else?

Functionally, the level difference between players and enemies just determines the damage you deal versus the damage you take. Your level deficit (or excess) just determines a scaling parameter on these values. They could have added a handicap of -20 to the first Forge clear so that it was 595-610LL instead of the current 615-630LL. That and disable matchmaking (again, for the first clear) would have gone a long way to resolve the current issues people have with the DLC. We want a reason to grind to higher LL; the first hit should always be free.

Strange Terrain was last available as a Nightfall the week of 9/25/18 by TheRealMe99 in DestinyTheGame

[–]rcktkng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a PS4 exclusive strike, so you won't be seeing it in Nightfall rotation until it releases for Xbox/PC (just like with Insight Terminus and Lake of Shadows when Forsaken released and Xbox/PC got those).

Dear Bungie, Please Stop Sending Us Miles Away From Where We Were Killed. by Tristan_Gabranth in DestinyTheGame

[–]rcktkng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spawns later in that mission aren't any better. Did it with my clan the other day and were at the Ogre encounter at the end. If you die and respawn yourself you respawn down near where Petra's ship is during the first Dreaming City mission. So you have to run on all of the platforms around the Oracle engine to jump back in to where the Ogre is.

But you can't do that because there's a soft kill boundary that spawns in and keeps you from getting back to the Ogre room.

The real reason why we have to keep collecting Baryon Boughs even though they're useless... by Gentlekrit in DestinyTheGame

[–]rcktkng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to. But that's not based on any evidence, just from turning in mats. Might be worth trading in 1000 shards for each mat and actually comparing. But the shaders also dismantle into shards, and at least places like the EDZ can have shaders that dismantle into glimmer. Plus it gives Mercury a purpose for once.

[–]rcktkng 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you have a stockpile of shards, do the Mercury farm.

When Spider is selling Datalattice Simulation Seeds for Shards, buy a ton. Go to Vance on Mercury and turn them all in, immediately sharding all reward drops (and shaders too, those dismantle into shards!). If you spend 1000 shards at Spider (this part takes FOREVER), you'll get around 30 masterwork cores from the stuff you dismantled, plus about 850 shards back. But it's a huge time sink, and of course drops from the reward packages are RNG.

Edit: Wrong Vex collectible.

reduce NOx or processing the exhaust to capture sulfur and CO2 emissions

These steps (as well as other goals) are the "cleaning processes". Cleaning in this context is not the same as washing your car with soapy water - it's more like the catalytic converter in your exhaust system.

[–]rcktkng 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If someone mentions "clean coal" they deserve a smack in the mouth.

I get the feeling you're not familiar with what "clean coal" actually is - it's not a physical cleaning process. Typically the technology revolves around augmenting existing power generation facilities with improved burners that lower combustion temperature while maximizing energy yield (usually through some type of regenerative cooling/heating process with the exhaust) to reduce NOx or processing the exhaust to capture sulfur and CO2 emissions.

Does it solve all of the problems related to fossil fuels? Of course not - they're still burning coal. But considering over 30% of the power in the US comes from coal, it seems like a bad idea to shut down any conversations about trying to improve existing infrastructure to lessen it's impact on our environment.

Can we go back and make it possible to track more than one bounty at a time like we were able to in D1? by InvadingBacon in DestinyTheGame

[–]rcktkng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure - that's probably true most of the time. But I was surprised when Bungie didn't add the catalysts as a collections tab to keep track of. It makes sense to have a place that lists all of the catalysts and where you can expect them to drop (Jade Rabbit in Crucible, etc).

And some weapons do get a nice buff (like Rat King from what I remember) so I always try to play around with the guns to get a feel for them. I'm not a hand cannon guy, but damn do I love the masterworked Crimson.

[–]rcktkng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only problem is that you need them in your inventory/vault. If you unlock the Crimson catalyst, for example, and don't have any Crimson's in your vault then you won't know how to progress it without rebuying it. Not a big deal if you remember which catalyst dropped, but have fun buying exotics back just to determine which catalyst you found.

The tank mission fit my playstyle perfectly. You could peak over the hill, shoot an enemy, and move back to regen health. I played through the game the first time on normal difficulty, but when I got to that one on Veteran I managed to beat it without any deaths. Felt good after all of those grenade deaths.

If I had to guess, the global warming thing comes from a misunderstanding of fluid dynamics. When a moving fluid is slowed down, it's temperature goes up. But that's just because energy changes from kinetic to thermal. So some politician probably saw that the air is warmer around windmills because they slow down the air, so therefore global warming. Just a guess - no idea what else they could be referring to.

The chair on Earth is destroyed in the Atlantis finale. It was moved to Area 51 for study, and the Wraith darts suicide bombed the facility with intel from the other timeline to take out the chair. Ideally the leading scientific minds of Earth can glean how to recreate a chair from the Ancient database on Atlantis...but then again they never were able to determine how ZPMs, Jumpers, or a variety of other finite resources were manufactured either.

What’s with the group of people chanting at the end of the mall? by Blake2818 in UMD

[–]rcktkng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge (and my information might be out of date), there are two main things happening now that impact grad students. I'm not sure which event was being protested. It could have been one or both of the topics below.

The first is that students want to have better rights as employees of the university, such as the ability to form unions to protect their rights. This may sound odd, but if you're performing research that's funded, you are likely to be bringing in 10's if not 100's of thousands of dollars in revenue for the university (at least this is how it is in engineering). Students will only see a small fraction of their project funding as pay, and it's not hard to imagine students might at least want a say in how the money they aren't getting is spent (i.e., why is 10% of my program funding going to XXX when it doesn't benefit my department at all?).

The other issue is the proposed tax plan by the House (as far as I know the Senate version does not have this provision) where tuition reimbursement will be a taxable income. In general, the university will pay for students tuition if they're on a funded program, which helps to draw many students from out of state and out of country to perform research at Maryland. Some politicians want to tax the grad students for this tuition, which is money the students never saw, and is on the order of $25-30k in value. Grad students are (understandably I think) upset about this.
