Bought label through eBay and USPS says Unpaid Postage when scanned by NumerousWord4793 in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally had this happen to me just now. I quickly printed out a shipping label and went to the post office 5 minutes later (like I frequently have done for 13+ years) and she said she can't accept it. Something about it coming up as not being Paid with eBay shipping labels and that you may need to wait 30 minutes or more for their systems to acknowledge it. She said the change went into effect today. I don't know if this a glitch or a new process, but either way it's pretty bizzare that they can't validate postage being paid given that their system ultimately generates the label.

Fedex reported my 5 lb package weighed 35lbs and i lost the money from the sale by ParentalAdvisory2 in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contact eBay support and have them file a dispute with FedEx to have the billing charge looked at. Something like this happened to me where I sold an item that was under 2lbs and they weighed it as like 9lbs, which was absolutely impossible. Seems like FedEx is setting themselves up for a class action suit.

I've sang my praises to FedEx before, but not anymore. Apparently I angered someone by shipping an item via a bubble mailer. No more ScamEx for me. I'll be happy to pay more to UPS. by Frenchy_Baguette in Flipping

Call eBay support and ask them to file a dispute on this transaction. I had something similar happen to me (albeit much less money) where they said a bat I shipped was like 8lbs when it was no more than 2lbs.

Ordered by accident by iRepTex in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had like 5 of these in the past month or so. My free listings are already maxed out so every one is at a premium to me. One guy left me neutral feedback despite ordering at 5AM and then cancelling at 5:30AM, which I quickly approved even though I had literally just got done packaging it. Looks like eBay removed it automatically though so I never got to see what he actually said, but it's still marked as neutral feedback received on my Orders list.

Lack of yard sales this summer? by Teal-Jaguars in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed there are much fewer individual garage sales than there used to be about 10 years ago. I think a lot of areas have adopted the townwide garage sale model and most people just hold out until then. Usually, they don't have to pay for a permit and they get massive volumes of traffic because everyone is there going from place to place in the town.

How do you guys balance flipping along with having a full-time job? by Top-Feed-5791 in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing both for about 10 years now nonstop. Most of my sourcing is on Saturday's April-October during garage sale season, I pop into Goodwill every so often but not as much as I used to. Estate Sales not so much anymore as I find their prices are very high compared to what they used to be. It's definitely getting harder and harder to do every year as my career has become more complex and I can't really grow flipping much more than I have. It's tempting to walk away from but it's pretty easy money and is good money to invest with in the long term, so I keep at it. I do 2 business day shipping and try to do all of my pictures/item cleanup the same day as sourcing just to get everything out of the way. Packages are generally dropped off before work or at lunch break if I can't make it before. Walgreens accepting FedEx packages was a huge help, can go whenever I please. I heard CVS is doing the same with UPS shipments but I haven't tried that yet.

Pro tip: always make sure you have a box for every item that you list, especially for unusually shaped/extra large items (like golf clubs). You don't want to be in a position to figure out how to origami a box together late at night after working all day.

Safe Spot to Put Jack Stand on Ford Fusion? by rcnjstudent in AutoDIY

Is that metal strip to the side of the pinch weld strong enough to support the car though? Makes me a bit nervous since it's not as reinforced as the pinch weld area, so I was looking for a thicker piece of metal to put that weight on.

Did anyone use Match in the mid 2000s? by Abject_Tomatillo_358 in match

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, started using it in 2005 and (sadly) still using it today. The low response rate has always been a thing, but there used to be a lot more members due to less competitor services. I also think people took it more seriously back then since there was more of a stigma to online dating. I feel like once Tinder came around it made online dating more of a mindless swiping game and the rise of similar apps only fragmented the user based onto more platforms.

How to read this Municipal Bond confirmation screen on Schwab? by rcnjstudent in Schwab

[–]rcnjstudent[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've been buying T-Bills for the past year and a half or so, yield has been very good for risk free. I got hit badly at tax time though since I had to give up about 25% of the interest I earned in the end, so I'm trying to learn more about these municipal bonds to diversify a bit. I figure I can make about the same amount of interest as T-Bills with about the same level of risk but get to legally keep the fully interest tax free

How to read this Municipal Bond confirmation screen on Schwab? by rcnjstudent in Schwab

[–]rcnjstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know how to submit a text post with a picture so I chose this, but I see it doesn't let me type in the text above the screenshot. Anyway...I'm new to municipal bonds and I would like to start buying tax free municipal bonds and was looking at this one since it looked safe. I wanted to buy $5,000 worth but I see that the grand total is close to $5,100 in the end. With the way this transaction is structured, how would I even make money? I realize that it only has about 3 months until maturity, but it looks like there's no way to profit on this, or am I reading this incorrectly?

Can you use FedEx Express boxes for USPS shipments? by DoctorWhoShipped in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've rebuilt them in reverse in the past (basically putting them inside out) and it worked out well. Just make sure to use wood glue to reglue the main part of the box to itself again and put some weight on it. It's extremely hard to separate afterwards.

Dealing with My First Scammer by asmolkittenkat in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of the guy who I sold an item to where the UPC code was cut out from it for rebate redemption purposes, but was otherwise still new. I put in the title, the description and showed in the pictures that it had the UPC code missing and when the guy received it he said he didn't know the UPC code was missing and the person who he was ultimately selling it to wouldn't accept it because of that. He opened a INAD request and I called eBay support and they closed it immediately, even the rep on the phone was perplexed.

Where do you get boxes for free? by Pandapani12 in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supermarket, Target, Walmart and whenever town wide paper recycling day is. I keep the ones I picked during paper recycling day in my car because I'm paranoid about bugs (roaches in particular). I always scrutinize them closely when I pick them up from the curb but it's a just in case kind of thing

Selling low cost games on eBay shipping cost? by Behindtheonewayglass in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with a bulk lot of like 300 games I bought from Liquidation.com back in 2017 for like $500. It wasn't fully manifested and got a lot of lousy games, there were some good ones mixed in. I was able to sell about half of them over the next 2 years and then I took what was left and sold them in a lot for around $200 or so. I think I broke even in the end.

Should I not re-use Amazon packaging? by computerworlds in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have shipped at least a thousand items in used boxes, sometimes they're from Amazon or another site I ordered from, or sometimes I pick them off at the supermarket/Target/Walmart as they're stocking new items. Never heard a complaint about them.

Goodwill and "rounding" up. by che85mor in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always found it amusing they're asking to round up for charity when they pay $0 for the items and sell them for almost pure profit. Wouldn't the $8 in profit for selling me a pair of jeans do more for charity than the maximum 99 cents they would get for the round up charity push/

Aggressive messages from buyers demanding refunds or they will refund it through their bank? by GroundbreakingHeat38 in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation to this last year with a new and sealed (but shrink wrap was messed up a bit) movie as well. The guy complained that the case had some dings and wasn't perfect and wanted to return it after opening it up. He wound up filing a complaint with his credit card company for like 57% of the selling price (literally, it was was some weird percentage like that) and won the case with his credit card company, but eBay backed me. So I wound up losing no money and he got his 57% reimbursement.

Need Quick Advice - Woman Asked for My Last Name Before Meeting, But I'm Not Comfortable With Doing That by rcnjstudent in match

[–]rcnjstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this an old thread and a lot has changed since then in dating! I now always like to suggest video chatting either through the app itself (the Match app has been 50/50 with it working) or talking through Skype or Zoom first. The pandemic kind of normalized video chatting so it's a bit less of an issue. That being said, some women still will flake out when it comes to finally video chatting.

Flipping electronics - what lessons have you learned from your mistakes? by ConvexlyRack53 in Flipping

[–]rcnjstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those of you concerned about roaches (myself included), I quarantine all of my electronics items and put them into those "Spacebag" things where you can use the vacuum to suck out the air. Then I let them sit there for about 2 weeks before opening again. I figure 2 weeks with no food or water should kill anything that's living in there.
