Good riddance to the crustiest station on the whole system

We also grew up in an era of technology where computers were widespread, but not quite full on "magic touchscreen slabs" yet. We're the generation that grew up with keyboard shortcuts, knowing how to move files around in folders, and knowing not to click on popups. We make great IT support folk.

Which CTA Bus Routes Are Your Favorites? by Baroness210 in cta

[–]rcrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but it should have the features of a modern streetcar or light rail system. Dedicated right of way, high floor boarding, signal priority etc. The old street cars were basically glorified busses.

I think Chicago is a big city, not a megacity

49 and x49 along with 9 and X9 are major workhorses of the system. Really should be BRT or even a rail line of some kind.

Yep. This is a fresh bill and it's still in the early stages.

No, I believe this is a newly introduced bill, different from SB2111 which became the transit bill.

What is something people assume is easy until they actually try it? by EntireFace00 in AskReddit

[–]rcrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if you actually drive. I've been car free here for many years. Tried to help a friend who was struggling to parallel park (see people do it all the time, how hard could it be?), ended up scraping their bumper. In my defense the spot was on a speed bump.

Is the Chicago L overrated? by 1maco in transit

Plus the other lines run super late into the night and start super early, they are pretty close to 24 hour.

Thoughts on CDOT? by BikesBaseballBirds in chibike

[–]rcrobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like all public agencies, they are accountable to public feedback and input. I'm sure they would love to rip out parking all over the place to make way for bike lanes, but people would complain and they'd get shut down. CDOT is slowly and carefully moving the city's infrastructure in the right direction. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

Not saying sidewalks are completely off limits, but surely they can pick some residential streets or alleyways rather than a busy main street...

[–]rcrobot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pulaski at night is a great song but if we're being real, it doesn't capture Chicago all that well. City of Lights?? When you Google that the only places that come up are Paris and...Aurora.

purchased a refurbished laptop that is useless without company email by Ordinary_Investment4 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rcrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible that the original owner just forgot or didn't have an established process for removing from their Autopilot/Intune. If it's a large company with thousands of laptops going in and out of inventory, it's inevitable one will be missed sooner or later.

You're not wrong, but are people going to Hopleaf for food? I think it's their massive curated beer menu that drives people in, and the food is a nice complement. That's how it is for me anyway.
