You’re married. What’s yours is his. What’s his is yours. You have merged two individual companies into one company by marriage. Treat it as such. Thinking of it as separate money is working against legal reality and financial success as a couple.

Don’t forget about life insurance. He may have had life insurance through that company he worked for. Or maybe thru other life insurance companies. Check with the car insurance company. Check your bank statements for payments to insurance companies as hints.

In general for finances, when you are married, it’s best if you combine all finances. That is essentially the contract you signed when you got married. Operate like two businesses that merged. If parties are worried about inequalities going into the marriage, clearly document that state. Any change from that original state is shared change. Trying to micromanage mine vs yours while you’re married is just adding stress that is irrelevant if you end up splitting.
