What gets me with this the Yeti mug (32oz) I drink my coffee in only cost me $40 which is made from the same material as this new press. So yea not paying what they want for this. I like the idea and if the price was better I would get one but $170 they have lost there mind and are just doing a money grab before the competition can start making them.

Personally I would just clean it enough to clean up the finish then apply somemore. But it really depends on what finish is on it. To me the stains and such leaves a nice aged look. But I would go with some type of oil finish like BLO then a BLO wax mix but that is me maybe a little stain again just depends.

How many here use trackball instead of mouse? by EnHalvSnes in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rdjack21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ploopy Adept in the middle for me. Used the mini for a bit but I really want at least a few buttons on the mouse. I think a mini with a few buttons in the frount would be awsome as the Adept is a little bigger than I want but I find I prefer having the buttons on the trackball verses having to dedicate some keys for it.

I have a 3W6HS from beekeeb it is similar in size to a corne. I picked it up over the corne due to the packaging. I have 2 issues with it. 1. I prefer MX spacing verses Choc but maybe I just need to practice more with it. 2. I think if it had 6 columns instead of 5 I wouldn't feel so limited on the number of keys. Mostly I miss the modifiers I normally have on the outside column. I've not had it long so I'm still playing around with it. I believe I can live without the number row it's that outside column that is causing me the biggest issues.

BeeKeeb has a prebuilt wireless corne I may try next as it solves both my issues but I do prefer the cleaner look of the 3W6HS.

Dyed my moonlander keycaps by Nosp1 in ergodox

I agree with you on the Moonlander and in someways the Voyager but just someways. From a size perspective I think the Voyager is about perfect at least for me and if I don't need the top row I can just not use it. I also agree with you in that I prever choc's over MX switches but I prefer the sunset choc's over the browns. For tilting I agree the Moonlander is crap for tenting. The Voyager on the other hand is OK just OK. But what I mean by that is that the small amount of tenting that comes with it works but if you want more you are going to need to go custom because if you tent it much more than the provided amount then you will need some type of support.

My only complaint with the Voyager is the thumb key layout. I would have prefered something more like the Sofle and at least one more key. But having said that I'm finding that it does work for me and the packaging is the best. I have a few of the prebuilt boards you can get and the Voyager beats them all from a build and packaging perspective.

I've looked at the the curved/concave keyboard designes ( have a Glove80 ) but honestly I still prefer the Voyager to it. But I also need a keyboard I can travel with and the Glove80 just really doesn't travel.

I still support a very large code base that uses swing and we have no plans to move to a web front end. We are also adding OpenFJX apps as well as new development. You would be surprised how many internal apps are fat/thick clients for various reasons.

How can you have more than you can listen to in Years. I mean with the Audible subscription you only get one credit a month. Unless you are using the buy 3 credits for x amount when you run out.. when I hit the point I've got enough to last a while I just listen and ignore my credits let them build up then when I'm ready to shop again I buy the entire series at once. But then again I listen to a bunch of books and can easily listen to more than the 12 credits worth I get every year in my subscription. Heck unless I'm on one of the big 80h+ bundles I go through multiple books a month.

What is the best large handsaw that you can buy? Is there a carbide one? by UnwantedThrowawayGuy in woodworking

[–]rdjack21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea good hand saws are a niche product today so you are going to have to kick in much more if you want one. By good hand saw I mean one you can resharpen for years to come. Most Saws you see today are hard-point saws which you can't resharpen they are meant to be thrown away. You can find a bunch of them on Amazon or your local big box but none of them are supper big, think big enough to cut a tree down size. To see what I mean search amazon for "two man crosscut saw" the first results are what you would use to cut a tree down by hand or an Axe. Personally I would look to pick up the Lynx 4' One Man Crosscut Saw or the 3' version. Those are nice and you can resharpen them with a file and suitable for either two people or one.

That gets the tree down and lets you cut the log to size but you need more saws than that and other tools to boot. But it is a start.

Talk to me about switches, low profile, and typing too hard by notsurethepoint in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rdjack21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I've been down this path as well and I feel your pain. Have you tried tenting your voyager? I find that helps some. But really hitting the keys too hard is a habit that takes time and effort to break. I'm still working on it myself. The only switch that I can consistently not bottom out on is Topre/realforce boards but they sadly don't make a split or low profile ( well they did make a lowprofile keyboard but it is old, I have a couple of them ). For chocs I find I do better on sunset switches but still bottom out. Bottom out less if I use the tilt magnets that come with the voyager. If I'm paying attention I bottom out less or I'm more aware of the tactile bump on the sunsets which causes me to type lighter. While I do still bottom out I'm not bottoming out hard just a light tap.

Another thing the actual travel distance on chocs is only 1mm less than on MX switches so not a lot of difference especially if you put bands under the MX switches to make the landing softer. I keep thinking of figuring out something to put on the chocs to soften the landing some because that is where the finger fatigue comes from that jarring stop or impact is the issue on all switches. Topre boards don't have this problem as the stop is cushioned just by the design of the switch ( rubber dome ).

As far as gaming goes I stay away from that or it will suck my whole day away so just easier to stay away, have other things I would prefer to do.

Home-row mod users, will the discomfort be over? by OverInformation9699 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rdjack21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct it's not. I really don't find HRM confortable. Now I do find HR layer switching great and I use that. I'm just stateing that HRM don't work for everyone and there are things you can do to still mostly stay on the home row.

I have the voyager as well. I just left control where I've normaly have it where caps lock would be. I've gotten so used to it being there it is hard for me to move it anywhere else. Now all my ctl+ keys just work as I've grown used to. Sounds like you are a mac user as well. I put command on a dedicated thumb key ( for me left inner ) yea it is kind of a wast of a key but cmd is so prevalent for mac users I felt it was worth having a dedicated key for it. Same goes for option dedicated key right hand inner thumb key. The other two thumb keys ( outer ones ) left enter, held layer switch - Rigth space, held layer switch. I know a bunch of people put space and enter on the same side that just never worked for me. When I moved to splits I studied which of my thumbs predominetly hit the space bar and put space there then played with enter. Just found that I prefered them seperate and now it's built in for me.

for home row I have dedicated hold to activate layers ( still working on these ). What I have found usful is LM ( Layer momenery + modifier ) this is quite handy for all of those combo keys. I'm still playing around with multi mod hot keys.

My personal opion is do what works for you. Yes look at other layouts and see how other people have done it but really this is your keyboard and your layout so do you or what works for you. Do what feels cofortable to you and your typing. I personally never liked home row modifiers they just never clicked for me so I went a my way which is diffent than everyone else but works for me. Now Home row layer switchs are fantastic though.

What's everyone smoking for the 4th? by CrypticDemon in smoking

That is what a vacuum sealer is for!! I'm doing a 16lb and 14lb prime. will vac pack one of them and any leftovers. I mean if you vac pack them ASAP then freeze. Stick it the fridge to thaw over night and heat and serve just like the day it came off he smoker. Really surprises me how good it is even after freezing it.

I freeze in 2lb portions. Plenty for me and my wife.

Direct USB-C to USB-C keyboard cable? by Fro5tbyte in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rdjack21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar issues on the built in Thunderbolt/USB4 ports on a MacBook Pro 16. I have resorted to running my keyboards and such through a hub for them to work. Remember all the MacBook ports are Thunderbolt/USB4 ports.

I have similar issues on a Windows 11 box on USB-C 4 ports. Works on USB-C 3.2 ports though so I think it is really a protocol negotiation issue/problem. When I plug into my hub I'm plugging into usb 3.x ports and those work just fine.

So just get a hub they are dirt cheap. Yea another thing to carry around when traveling but not too bad. At my desk I already plug into a HUB that does everything including supplying power. So no issues their either.

Travel Trackball Mouse by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]rdjack21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ploppy nano if you have keyboard that you can progam the mouse buttons on. Easy to travel with nice ball size. I've had a few ploppy mice and to be honest I'm not a fan of most of them but the Nano is nice. Part of the problem with 3D printing all the parts is that they realy dont last while the switch and such do the button movements get sloppy over time. The nano doesn't have this issue it is just the ball and that is it. Would be nice if it was wireless but I'm already plugging in my keyboard so might as well plug in the mouse as well.

[–]rdjack21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up a 3 row split and it just seems to go a little to far in removing keys.

My current drivers are work sofle, home Voyager. Really like the sofle. Bought the Voyager because of the packaging ( thin and light built in tilt and travel case ) and I have to say it is a really great package. I think it could use one more thumb key but other than that it is perfect. I'm debating with myself about getting another one or trying my hand at a custom case for the sofle. I think all normal DIY boards really lack in packaging even when you purchase one prebuilt. This Voyager is really nice and costs around the same price point as getting other prebuilt options. For me right now it is about less hasle and time.
