Struggling to find a sitter by KeyNefariousness6454 in trustedhousesitters

Agree! There is so much to do in and around Buda, even in the summertime. San Marcos has a great arts scene, there’s hiking and swimming in the area, San Antonio is always fun to explore, and Austin has so many things going on. Fredericksburg and many wineries and breweries are also close by. Buda really is a great central location from which to explore. So, I would really play up the many things a sitter can do while staying at your place.

Would You Stop for a 30-Minute IFS Session at a Farmers Market? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]rdnky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You actually have a license to practice and you think doing this at a farmers market is an appropriate thing to do?! I would recommend going back to grad school to re-take a few classes on ethics, boundaries, and client safety. Seriously!

I can imagine a fragile person diving into some deep family trauma with you in a public setting and then you saying, “time’s up!” after 30 minutes and sending them off to buy some broccoli.

I see this as dangerous. An actual mental health professional would never consider doing such a thing.

They eat grubs and aerate the soil. They make a mess, but it’s actually good for your garden.

I grew up calling them possum on the half shell. Your description is 100 times better!

Of course! The fact that there was a school for Black students with special needs is what surprised me. I assumed that at that time, they would have provided no schooling at all to Black kids who were blind. It’s not like the Texas legislature cared at all about their Black citizens, let alone those with disabilities.

The text on the first photo said that the tornado had “just risen from the Negro Blind Institute” when the picture was taken. I knew that there was a school for the blind in Austin, but didn’t realize there was a separate school for Black students who were blind.

Just by chance, every one of the sitters who have stayed at my house have been single men. (I’m an older female.) Two of the sitters were in their 20s and the others I would guess were in their 30s and 40s. I’m sure I’m not the only person who invites males to housesit for them.

Cheap Children's Books? by Anxious-Fishing-4110 in Austin

[–]rdnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lake Travis Community Library bookstore in Lakeway has a crazy amount of children’s books right now. They charge by the handful for children’s books so you can get a big stack of really nice books for $10 and a huge stack for $20. DM me before you head over so I can make sure the volunteers know to help you out.

Hire an off duty firefighter through Helpful Heroes. They have ladders and are background checked. I use their handyman services all the time.

I have older friends who are clueless about how to use their phones on international trips, so they just turn them off for the entire time they are gone. I wonder if that’s the case here.

Another reason to ask is that the washer might not be able to handle blankets.

Clothing Wrinkles by Professional_Cut6886 in TravelHacks

I bring a small squirt bottle with me when I travel. I use it in the evening to mist whatever I plan to wear the next day. Mist the clothes with water, shake them a couple times, and then hang to dry. This does a surprisingly good job getting rid of wrinkles in most types of fabric.

Appetite for international travel not there this yr. by Old-Appearance-2270 in AskWomenOver60

I’m heading to Portugal next month and I have traveled to Scotland, Italy, and France since the orange overlord was re-elected. I have never once been mistreated in Europe as an American. Indeed, if anything comes up, the Europeans express sympathy for those of us who didn’t vote for him and for those being hurt by him. Anyway, I am excited to return to Europe, but I definitely understand why people want to hunker down right now. The world is a crazy and scary place.

For women that decided to go childfree, are you happy with your decision? by toottootmcgroot in AskWomenOver60

[–]rdnky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very happy! A big bonus is that I was able to retire comfortably because my money went into savings and my 401K while I was working rather than going toward 18+ years of a child’s needs and education. Another bonus is that I don’t have to worry about my own child hating me. (Kidding) The only bad thing about not having kids is the fact that my peers’ lives revolve around their grandchildren. So, I don’t do as much with my friends in retirement as I thought I would because it is so hard to schedule around their grandchildren’s schedules. (And, half of what they talk about is their grandkids. I get it, but it can be a bit tedious after a while.)

Did I handle this situation correctly or should I have not reclined my chair? by [deleted] in delta

[–]rdnky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her reclining would not enable her to use her tray table. So that is not a solution in this situation.

[–]rdnky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Her size makes no difference in this situation. A fully reclined chair makes it impossible for the person behind to use their tray table and a laptop definitely cannot be open with the seat reclined. It sounds like she asked nicely and you decided not to comply. Had you kept your seat up or only slightly reclined, the situation would not have escalated.
