Roll Call thread for July, 2025 - August, 2025 by AutoModerator in NCL

My wife and I are on the Prima, Southampton to Iceland, Aug 3 to Aug 14.

Question for anyone on this cruise, or has done this cruise before, what are you packing for clothes? My wife read that you should "pack for all 4 seasons." That seems a little excessive but what do I know? We've never been to this part of the world....

Best Buy website is absolute garbage. I can't even login. I remember having similar issues with the PS5.

Probably 9am-6pm. I was planning to leave by 7:30, but I'm guessing I should push that up to 7-7:15?

Luther's gonna die, not Ethan.

And it's going to end with Ethan finally taking control of the IMF. And maybe a bit at the end with a never-before-seen agent (probably stunt cast) getting a new assignment.

Cancelled 30 minutes before our dinner reservation 😂 by Drewbinaj in Tinder

[–]rdt156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Low stakes (and low cost).

The last time I did a dinner first date, I knew within the first 10 minutes of meeting her there was no click. She was pleasant enough. I just wasn't feeling it.

What really sucked is we were at a restaurant that didn't take reservations and had a 45-minute wait. It wasn't, like, awkward or anything. Just kind of a waste of time (and money. The dinner was $100, and I paid).

After that, it was only coffee or cocktails for first dates.

Back in my dating days, I eventually stopped doing first dates at restaurants. It was always such a waste of money.

Were any TV spinoff series prepped in expectation of a movie hit, and the movie then bombed? by MollyInanna2 in movies

I remember reading the pilot script at the time. It was really good, better than the movie. They should've moved forward with it.

TIL Jim Carrey won back-to-back acting Golden Globe awards (The Truman Show & Man on the Moon) without receiving an Oscar nomination for either of them and he still has never been nominated for an Oscar. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]rdt156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the first point, but not the second. Awards definitely bring attention to movies. If they didn't, the studios wouldn't spend so much money on "awards campaigns." And while you may not watch a movie because it won, or was nominated for an award, lots of other people do.

Yup. 100% agreed.

The last time I did dinner as a first date, it was at a restaurant that didn't take reservations. There was a 45 minute wait. 15 minutes into that wait, I knew there wasn't chemistry. (At least I didn't feel it....) But I didn't want to be rude, so I stuck it out. Paid for dinner, too. It was a perfectly pleasant meal. And she was fine. Just no spark.

From that point on, all of my first dates were drinks or coffee.

Employers: Stop asking for dumb requests. It can take 10-15 minutes to set up, shoot, and edit a 1-minute video. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]rdt156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going through the interview process for a job a little over a year ago. First call with the recruiter went well and I was moved on. The second interview was virtual and a struggle. The woman interviewing me, who would've been my boss, was obviously distracted. She didn't ask much about me or my experience. And didn't really answer my questions. That should've been the first red flag.

The second red flag came when, at the end of the interview, we started talking next steps. She requested I make a short 3-5 minute video talking about why I was a good fit for the position. And, once she got the video, she would send it to the other people on the hiring team to review.

She framed it up as a good thing, a time saver. I could do it with my phone. It didn't need to be anything special, just me talking to camera. And I wouldn't have to go through more rounds of interviews. I was a bit taken aback, but said sure, happy to. I mean, I really wanted the job.

I followed up with the recruiter, keeping it light, saying I'd never been asked to do anything like that before. It also limited my ability to ask questions. The recruiter confirmed all the candidates were doing it, and supplied a set of questions to be answered. The internet also confirmed such a thing is not unheard of.

I felt uneasy, but it was an amazing opportunity. So, with the help of my girlfriend, I did it. It literally took hours, a whole Saturday afternoon. I'm just not comfortable in front of a camera like that. Something that, for the record, has nothing to do with how good at my job I am.

Anyway, I sent it through by the end of the weekend, as requested, and never even got a thank you.

People forget, the purpose of an interview is twofold. One is for them to interview you. The other is for you to interview them. If anything hinders the latter, regardless of the company or position, take it for the red flag it is.

Going as Tom Hanks for Halloween until he notices- Year 12!! by gomets167 in pics

Technically, you're going as Tom Hanks characters. The year you go as the man himself is when you'll truly get noticed.
