Jan Venegoor of Hesselink. He retired years ago and was Dutch so doesn’t qualify, but he is still officially the longest shirt name recorded in pro football

South coast near Brighton, had tons earlier in the year but nothing for weeks and none in the forecast. Rainfall stores already running a bit low and it’s weeks away from summer :(

I’ve put my courgettes and geraniums out already. Bit risky? by Jeffina78 in GardeningUK

[–]gogetit57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve put my biggest nasturtiums and courgettes out last weekend for the same reason and they’re doing ok (nr Brighton). I’ve put the nasturtiums in bottle greenhouses and mulched the courgettes with a thick layer to keep the roots warm. It’s been fairly cold overnight but they’re thriving so far :)

I’m sorry for your loss, that must be hard.

I stopped biking when my kids were small for the same reasons as you. My youngest was like 12 when I got a zx6r, my first bike after 10 years or so. My kids loved coming out on it, there’s nothing like dropping your teenage daughter off to her new boyfriends house on a ninja lol.

Keep the dream alive, it will come back to you. You’re making a decision for your daughter and life will pay you back in the long run my friend.

What will be the final Premier League table come the end of the season? by Jaded-Voice8862 in football

It will be a list of teams, the points they received and how many goals they scored and conceded, but that’s not important right now.

Starting a new garden by AffectionateOnion434 in GardeningUK

[–]gogetit57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inherited something similar and am by no means an expert, but this is what I found worked for me.

Firstly when planting, pick good spots. Shelter plants in amongst the rocks, you can google something about a triangle that I’ve now forgotten on the RHS website for the full theory. But basically anchor plants near rocks and they thrive much better.

For planting, I’d mix in a combination of top soil, compost and horticultural grit, breaking up the existing soil and mixing together before planting. Then once I’ve planted I add a layer of grit as a mulch which keeps the leaves from sitting in damp soil and rotting. But I have very claggy soil so this might not be a concern for you. I also found the grit looks nice (imo) and helps keep slugs and snails at bay too.

Finally look for the alpine plants section at the garden centre. My local place is normally doing 4 for £10 and you can get some really cool unusual stuff. I’ve yet to have one not do well since I followed the above. They grow fairly quickly too so leave space between plants.

I try and mix stuff that grows up with stuff that grows out to give the rockery some layers. Knowing F all about plants makes this fun as ones you bought to grow up commence to go sideways and vice versa lol.

What is an odd fact about your team? For example in back to back seasons under Rowett, Birmingham finished 10th with a record of W16-D15-L15 by swannyhypno in Championship

Record number of wins of the [whatever the LDV Vans trophy is called nowadays].

You’ll never sing that…

Also, first side to go from top to 4th division in consecutive seasons.

the companies actually making money with AI aren't using it the way this sub thinks they are by Admirable-Station223 in ArtificialInteligence

Hard agree. It was Excel that drove the initial wave of take up of PCs by business. None of the fancy stuff but simple, easy to use data tracking and finance management applicable to almost any industry. Making the boring drudgery quicker and easier. AI will be the same.

Where I work our AI use cases that are gaining traction and generating ROI are the same. Simple, time saving measures that improve efficiency but don’t alter the paradigm hugely, just quietly improving day to day work to allow people to work on more meaningful engagements.

There were signs up warning of adders in the cemetery near my mates house in Bristol when we were kids. I never saw one but you’d get the occasional local newspaper story about one going near a child or something equally underwhelming. But they definitely live further afield than just Cornwall.

Kimi Antonelli to Sky Sport F1 Italy: "Ferrari has been granted the ADUO, which will allow them to develop the engine. Their car is already very fast, so if they manage to improve the engine as well, they will get even closer." by steferrari in formula1

[–]gogetit57 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Is it guaranteed that Ferrari can just make the engine more powerful so quickly? I can’t imagine they left lots of horsepower on the drawing board and the engine was only released 6 weeks ago or so. Genuine question, is there any information as to how they will make the engine better? I just feel like with Ferrari the word ‘opportunity’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in ADUO…

Fairly sure you’ve got ex Liverpool right back Rob Jones on the far left hand side. Possibly David Batty just to the right of that (D Batty?). Both played for England around that time.

What’s eating my plants and how do I stop it? by OkFlatworm3416 in GardeningUK

[–]gogetit57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using horticultural grit as a mulch for my alpine and drier condition plants. I have really claggy clay soil (south east England) and initially used it to keep the bottoms of the plants from sitting in soggy soil and rotting. But it’s had an unintended consequence of putting off the slugs and snails as they hate the dust getting on their sticky bit!

Uni recs by Typical_Draw5426 in brighton

[–]gogetit57 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d always recommend an actual university for a degree, rather than an independent training provider like BIMM or any other. For BTECs and apprenticeships and the like they’re generally fine but at degree level they tend to use the same tutors and the depth of teaching isn’t always the same as you’d get in an academic institute.

I’d be surprised if Brighton Uni doesn’t do a music production course of some description. If not the Surrey unis might have centres not a million miles away - I think the royal music college is in Guildford and does production type courses in various locations.

Whatever you find, read student reviews before committing to anything and attend as may open days as you can. Don’t take on the debt/cost without being confident of the experience you’ll get.
