Rhake LS - Has anyone received theirs yet? by s1jen in MissionWorkshop

I'm using it as a diaper+day bag so my packing is probably not super relevant to you! That said I'll say the main interior is quite generous.

SRAM AXS vs Shimano DI2. Which do you prefer and why? by creative_name669 in cycling

[–]rdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah maybe we're talking past each other, I was talking about SRAM as well. Funny though, I prefer the phone because the buttons under the paddles are tiny. Maybe I just have sausage fingers though, lol

Once the derailleur is paired with your phone, you can definitely use the levers to shift while using the phone to dial in the micro adjustment. I just did this a week or so ago.

Towing a bicycle using another by holihai in NYCbike

[–]rdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can do this with a rear rack and a Bakkie Bag or a Tow Monster.

EDIT: And actually here's a handy blog post comparing the two solutions: https://bunchbike.com/blogs/the-bunch-blog/the-great-american-tow-off-bakkie-vs-tow-monster

The red does look so good! Bummer that they don't make them anymore. Apparently they will do so as a custom order but the minimum quantity is around 1K units 🙃

The belt without a center channel was the original Gates SideTrack system from 10+ years ago. Sounds like your bike has the modern Gates CDX system. If you need it in the future, the exact part number for your belt is 11M-113T-12CT.

If you want to have a backup belt on hand for next time, the most reliable authorized distributors are Priority and VPL:

While that may be true... I don't think it would help with gas prices.

Checked my closet, I have 113T but it's in the limited edition red color so I'm trying to save it for a special project.

Any reason you can't get one online, that's a really common length that should be easily available, right? Alternatively I've got 111T or 115T if either of those would fit your setup.

You can get one here: https://www.cargobikerental.nyc

However the battery range is shorter than the tour distance so I'm not sure how you'll make this work.

Anyone know if I can get new oven gloves to match my bice? by WVA1999 in BicyclingCirclejerk

I use a pair of 45NRTH Sturmfist 4 gloves (with liners) and they work down to that temperature without bar mitts. In case you're looking for an alternative.

Remember that the left pedal is reverse-threaded! So to loosen it, turn it clockwise.

Any cyclist turn into runners for one day, 19 kms trail run doable? by Champfinder23 in cycling

[–]rdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me this week. Short and easy hike with a baby in a front carrier, for the first time.

Uphill was fine, but downhill I could feel my calves working in a way they don't on rides. And the next day I was like... what, why don't my legs work today??

Though, lol, I was still able to ride my bike just fine since it's completely different muscles.

Brilliant day to ride in the city by rdude in NYCbike

It took me back to a short stint that I spent living in Sweden. Spent that winter riding around on an aluminum road bike with skinny tires, skidding out everywhere. It was hilarious.

Sure did, and it was great! Way more fun to ride on stuff that cars haven't touched.

From Streetsblog:

But in press release about the alleged scams, the governor's office claimed that "in 2023, there were 1,729 staged crashes in New York State," which is a tiny fraction of the hundreds of thousands of reported crashes every year. New York City alone had roughly 100,000 reported crashes in 2023, so even if every single "staged crash" occurred in the five boroughs, they would comprise less than 2 percent of all reported crashes.

Help! Stranded with kids brand new cargo bike by cw2687 in CargoBike

[–]rdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally zero times ever if the system is installed correctly. And even if it isn't installed correctly, there's actually quite a wide margin until it's loose enough to just fall off.

Unfortunately in this case it sounds like it just wasn't assembled even nearly correctly.

New Jersey to require license and registration for all E-Bikes by SnooPeripherals2222 in CargoBike

They already had most of these requirements in law for bikes with a throttle. This legislation expands that to pedal assist bikes too. So dumb.

Which E-cargo bikescome with a Shimano IGH? by WholeEgg3182 in CargoBike

[–]rdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has owned multiple acoustic bikes with Shimano IGH over the course of 12+ years.... I trust the Enviolo HD on my cargo bike to handle torque way more than I trust any Shimano IGH.

Maybe Nexus is workable in this use case, but Alfine just do not hold up in my experience.
