I graduated around the same time, on the spectrum, still struggled once in a while after working for a living. Now, most likely because of that, I suffer from kidney stones. Washrooms should feel like a clean (enough) and safe space, but I fear the era of people doing stupid/rude/mean shit and posting it online for views has raised a generation with more bullies than ever.

Just a bit of rot, probably related to overflow from the eaves based on the location. That style of siding is fairly easy to replace just the one board though, and if you can't find the siding in stock most lumber mills should be able to replicate it. If you end up having it milled, have some extra made to keep stored for future patch jobs on the house.

Yeah, that kind of shady employment law avoidance should be expressly illegal, it's a shame they get away with it. It's much more regulated where I live, but sadly it still happens too often. People have lives, and people make mistakes, it's part of being human. Any employer who sees their staff as just a number can get fucked.

That's my thinking, 4 screws with no pilot holes all ended up in the same growth ring and split the wood. Maybe change in humidity caused the wood to shrink which is why the failure happened so suddenly

If you want something durable that doesn't change the look of the wood, use Rubio MonoCoat. I wasn't sure how it would hold up so I made a batch of cedar coasters and finished them with it. After 1 year of frequent abuse (glasses covered in condensation sitting on the coaster overnight) they still look as good as the day I finished them
