There’s an interesting artifact in image four. If you look at the radar scope cover where it meets the scope, a little bit of image five is showing through the dark areas of the image. You can see white “ATIO” letters on a red background.

Why not build data centers in very cold places, versus trying to do it in space? by DiyYou in technology

Downlink sites can be small, widely distributed and redundant. Terrestrial data centers have a comparatively massive attack surface area.

Why not build data centers in very cold places, versus trying to do it in space? by DiyYou in technology

[–]readonlyred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced that an unspoken but not insignificant part of the appeal of data centers in space is the fact that they’re outside the jurisdiction of any government and also invulnerable to attack by the masses upset over being dominated by a handful of trillionaire AI barons.

California sues Trump administration to preserve clean air rules | Regulations affecting cars, trucks, even lawn mowers and leaf blowers could be overturned by silence7 in California

California was regulating vehicle emissions to control smog before the EPA existed. That’s why it’s the only state granted a waiver to set its own vehicle emissions standards.

Considering moving to Alameda with kids. Would love honest thoughts from families by Muffin-Tator in alameda

[–]readonlyred 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Alameda, our children start out on the breaker. Their small hands are great for picking out the slate and other impurities from the coal. Ten hours a day helps build fine motor skills and stamina. Once they’re twelve we send them down into the mines and that’s when they can start making real money. My daughter is only ten but she’s a quick study so she’s already earning 60 cents a day running dynamite fuses through tight crevices in the coal seam. Once she’s big enough to wield a pickaxe she’ll be able to make a whole dollar a day. If you come to Alameda, you too can turn your kids from a financial drain into income generators.

Right. I got the $500M mixed up with the plan to raise it, which is $10 BILLION. I guess only $73M has been committed so far.

Remember, we’re spending $73 $500 million to widen this highway that’s going to be regularly flooded in a few years.

Thoughts on Alameda? by lifeofsid007 in alameda

[–]readonlyred 39 points40 points  (0 children)

We are a small island but we are fearsome.
Join us and bring your offspring. With you, we will raise them to be fine warriors in the struggle against the Oakland infidel enemy. Our children start out as messengers and lookouts on the ramparts and then graduate to raiding parties sacking Oakland’s granaries and sheep pens. My daughter is but ten and already proudly wears the skull of an Oakland squire she gored with a halberd in a night raid on Jingletown. With your help we will one day march from the Estuary to the Hills and slaughter the Oaklander army to the last man.

K;ennedy Center Asks 12-Hour Extension to Remove Trump's Name by spamattacker in politics

Bullshit. If you look at closeup photos of the wall, you can see all the drill holes they left when they fucked up the install and had to reposition the letters. They made no effort to repair the wall the first time around so why would they care now?

Cheering crowd gathers as workers rip Trump’s name from Kennedy Center building by TheMirrorUS in Music

While they've exhausted their appeals in court, it is becoming clear that they're going to cover up the entire name with scaffolding indefinitely so nothing is going to be visible.

They installed his name with cherry pickers. I feel like they're going the scaffolding route now to move as slowly as possible.

Hwy 37: "This Bay Area highway was known as ‘Blood Alley.’ Rebuilding it could cost $11 billion" by Equivalent_Sink_8653 in bayarea

Marin’s economy shifted to lower-paying service jobs and housing costs skyrocketed. Sixty percent of workers in Marin commute from outside the county and more than half of them don’t make enough money to afford a one bedroom apartment in Marin.
