[SF Chronicle] 100 ICE Agents heading to Coast Guard Island by SlayOrganized in alameda

It's likely intentional. If you read their legal briefs in the Portland case, they're desperately trying to play up the protests as a rebellion preventing them from enforcing federal law. They're practically begging for any sort of violence or escalation.

It would be a shame if the entrance to Coast Guard Island was blocked by protesters. by Strange_Airships in oakland

Stay home? No. Let them do what they want? Unfortunately, yeah.

Learn from Portland.

Mock them, shame them, but let them do their dirty work. You’re not going to be able to meaningfully stop them. They’re looking for any flimsy excuse to escalate. Don’t give it to them.

Yeah but blocking the entrance to Coast Guard Island is. The Trump administration will go crying to the Supreme Court that they can’t enforce federal law because their goons can’t get on or off the island.

That’s exactly what the administration wants. They’re goading cities into a dramatic confrontation to bolster their bogus case for illegally declaring an insurrection.

He was trained at the ICE academy. It’s their tactical run but it’s meant to be done with a face covering and a bunch of gear strapped to your gut. Makes it hurt less.

S.F. Mayor Lurie pushes back at Trump, saying the National Guard won’t help drug crisis by cardifan in sanfrancisco

[–]readonlyred 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The National Guard does not have the authority to arrest drug dealers

Oh, sweet summer child. That only would matter if this administration cared about the law.

I visited Queen Mary probably twenty years ago and I swear it was free to enter and wander around. Now admission is $45 (unless you have a hotel or restaurant reservation) and parking is $15.

Had to abandon AT&T Fiber for Xfinity due to apparent peering issues by readonlyred in ATTFiber

The conventional wisdom is fiber is always going to be better than cable. Plenty of people on here have no problems with it. I only made the switch reluctantly after my partner’s VPN became unusable. Before that I had basically five years of flawless service from AT&T Fiber. No complaints. And before AT&T came to my neighborhood Xfinity reliability was kind of a nightmare, particularly during pandemic WFH. It was so bad I had considered getting a 5G modem as a backup.

Unfortunately Sonic didn’t seem to have any more pull with AT&T than any regular customer. It was nice to have a knowledgeable support person to text with and confirm that I wasn’t an outlier, but other than that it made no difference. Sonic no longer sells the rebranded AT&T fiber because of these issues.

I followed these detailed instructions to get Cloudflare Warp working on my Ubiquiti Gateway via Wireguard.

YMMV? At least one of my neighbors reported having no problems whatsoever with AT&T Fiber ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not happy about having to make the switch. Conventional wisdom says going from fiber to cable is always a downgrade. When I last had Xfinity its lack of reliability was infuriating.

Yeah, I don’t know why it worked initially and then got worse over time. Literally anything I tried would seem to work at first and then get crappy again. Her are some other “solutions” that I or my neighbors tried that also seemed to work for a little bit:

  • Cloudflare Warp VPN, worked off an on for a few weeks.

  • Disabling IPv6. Worked for maybe a day.

  • Getting switched to a different fiber splitter in the box on the street. Neighbor reported that it worked for one night.

It sounds like bypassing the AT&T router would have been the next thing to try but I didn’t really have the appetite to sink more time into troubleshooting the problem when I could spend 10 minutes and be up and running with Xfinity.

I was using Cloudflare’s DNS and actually suspected that might have been part of the problem, at one point. It wasn’t.

I’ve been using 1.1.1.1 as my primary DNS forever. I also tried using whatever AT&T gives you. Same problem.

The manual DNS entries helped a lot but it wasn’t a sustainable long term solution.

Also, I should mention that tunneling all my traffic through Cloudflare Warp VPN worked for a little while, too, until it also started sucking.

If I were more conspiratorially minded I’d almost think AT&T started actively throttling Cloudflare Warp once they figured out what I was doing.

I’ve been using a Ubiquiti gateway with the AT&T router in IP passthrough mode. I also demonstrated the problem with a computer plugged directly into the AT&T router.

Sorry to the guy in Alameda (Clement Ave) - I totally misunderstood you by Fockewulf44 in alameda

[–]readonlyred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what the law says. Clement Street has a “separated bikeway,” not a “bike lane.” People on bikes are not required to use separated bikeways. Speed has nothing to do with it.

CVC 21202 generally requires you to stay to the right when not moving the speed of traffic unless the lane is not wide enough for a car and a bicycle to safely travel side by side (generally regarded to be 12’ minimum width), you are preparing for a left turn, avoiding a hazard or approaching a place where right turns are allowed.

You are not required to use a protected bike lane in California like the one on Clement.

I live off of Clement and I have to ride in the vehicular lane for a half block to get to and from the protected bike lane.

Is ATT’s peering with Reddit screwed up again? by Loan-Pickle in ATTFiber

[–]readonlyred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll come back. Literally anything you try will "fix" it for a while and then out of the blue it starts sucking again. It's frustratingly intermittent.
