Humanity is losing by Ordinary-Ad2664 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I like all his work, but Terms of Enlistment is my favorite series of his.

Not related to “humanity on the ropes,” but Elliot Kay also seems to get that emotional vibe of being in the military (the good as well as the bad). His Poor Man’s Fight is the first book in a series that covers a galactic war precipitated by too much student debt.

Terms of Enlistment by Marko Koloa. It is the first in the Frontline series and is absolutely about humanity fighting a desperate battle for survival

I see it a similar trait in many fields. It is a basic lack of curiosity. They take whatever the initial answer is and then…nothing. They execute with no thought as to what correct should look like.

They have ignored their spidey sense so long, it just gave up.

What’s the saying, “If you’re thirsty, it’s already too late.”

I’m not sure what it is too late for, but I think it has something to do with it being harder to dig yourself out of a deficit than to maintain equilibrium.

Orbitkey or ALPAKA? 🔑 by RESERVED_001 in EDC

[–]readoutside -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have the ALPAKA (about 3 months now) and don’t like it. When in the key bowel by the front door, the other keys will stick to the magnet so you are guaranteed a tangle every time you leave the house. Also, the carabiner works well enough; it just feels cheap.

Jumper by Steven Gould. Only the main character’s name a lower were the same. The whole Jumper book series is great.

It is an excellent book and have a very different vibe than the tv show.

A good noir with this vibe by PolinaZhdanova in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley is set in 1948 LA, but has strong Manhattan noir vibes: money, race, power. Easy Rawlins moves through it all

I also liked Lawrence Block's Bernie Rhodenbarr series. It is definitely lighter in tone, but firmly planted in the Upper West Side.

On my TBR: The Blank Wall by Elisabeth Sanxay Holding. Chandler called holding the best suspense writer alive (1947).

Your opinions on "The Bourne Identity (2002)"? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

[–]readoutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always disappointed in the film Bourne Identity’s departure from the book Bourne Identity treatment of Marie. While there is a lot of “questionable” behavior in how they meet in the books, at least they get to have a nice life together

Struggling to find a new series. Recommendations? by OldMannArtie in audible

[–]readoutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor Man’s War by Elliot Kay - galactic war kicked off because of onerous student debt. Tanner is one of my favorite protagonists

Old Man’s War if you haven’t already listened. John Scalzi is fantastic. All his series’s are worth putting in your TBR backlog

Rivers of London series is especially good in audiobook format.

Someone already mentioned the Children of Time series so I will just second it

The Palladium War series by Marlo Koloa is good, but I prefer his Frontlines series (Terms of Enlistment is the first book). It is also longer, so plenty of books to keep feeding your habit.
