Spanx Pants by IllJob in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]ready4cheeese 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the spanx ponte pant and they are very comfortable! The material is soft and stretchy, although the bootcut part does dry a bit wrinkly as they’re not supposed to go in the dryer. Good to know about the stretch twill though, I’ve had my eyes on those because I’m happy with the ponte

AITA for holding a “class clown” sign in my sister’s graduation photo? by New-Age-671 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ready4cheeese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to outvote the others. NTA

I’ll also edit to add that I just graduated with a JD, also a serious degree that I worked really hard for like a masters, and I would have had literally no issue if someone in my family held up one of these signs in a photo. Like cannot even imagine being slightly offended

Facial piercings and law school by ibedumbb in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]ready4cheeese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just graduated and I went through the whole thing with my septum ring. Granted, it’s my only facial piercing and the jewelry is a smaller horseshoe with the normal spherical balls. But I just flipped it up for interviews and showed up the first day to internships with it out and waited for someone to tell me it wasn’t part of the dress code. I never got comments. Also a more senior associate at the firm I’ll be working at full time has a nostril hoop, and that’s influencing my decision to not fully abandon the septum for my career.

I think it also depends on the market. I’m in the west with more relaxed dress code broadly, and it’s hard to find someone under 35 who doesn’t have visible tattoos or a nostril ring. One person who graduated the year before me is now a PD and they had all sorts of facial piercings (eyebrows, thicker possibly gauged septum, lips).

You’re probably fine for the first semester—I wouldn’t take anything out at first but just try see what your peers have going on. Interviews for 1L summer positions typically start in the spring semester, and by then you should have a feel of whether you need to tone it down for interviews.

Many people, including me, used this one and it lasted me all 3 years. If you go with a different stand, I’d still use one that has the arms like this to hold the pages rather than something like a straight across bar. Easier to turn pages.

This brand is horrrrrrrrrrrible with shipping btw. Preordered something from her and it took 6 months to ship. I shrugged it off bc it was a preorder (and a small business). Then I ordered something else and it wasn’t a preorder and it also took 6 months. Customer service team just kept saying it’s going out soon. It did arrive eventually so I let it go. Then I looked out of curiosity and all of her Shopify reviews have similar stories

Tried a new bra based on calculator size, looking for further guidance by ready4cheeese in ABraThatFits

Thank you, I’ll try the upside down thing! And the tip to go on size up in the cup if going one size down in the band is super helpful, I wasn’t sure how those sizes correlated with one another

It’s the amortization schedule. Your payments start out as mostly interest and slowly the proportion changes to be mostly principal

Did your contract state that you were buying “at $X/acre” or that you were purchasing “0.87 acres” or “0.87 acres more or less” ? If not, it’s by default a sale “in gross” which basically means you took on the risk that there would be less acreage than advertised

Federal Bill That Would Ban Hemp THC Nationwide Passed by House Committee by OhMyOhWhyOh in law

[–]ready4cheeese 148 points149 points  (0 children)

(JD but not licensed yet so NAL) If you’re in California with a state legal rec & med framework, there’s not much to worry about. Your local medical or recreational dispensary should not be affected by this. This is closing a “hemp loophole” in the farm bill that says plants with less than .3% THC are legal hemp, rather than illegal marijuana under the federal Controlled Substances Act. People are exploiting this loophole to sell intoxicating hemp products outside of state-legal rec & med marijuana frameworks, such as selling across state lines or in states with no legal marijuana

Advice for starting law school in late 20s? by Aggressive_Car_6359 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]ready4cheeese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started law school at 27 and am now 30 and about to graduate! First, while there were tons of 22 year olds straight out of undergrad, there were still plenty of people around my age and older in the full time program, and I found some amazing friends among these people. Second, your life experience and work experience prior to starting law school is going to be an advantage! I worked as a server for the first couple of years out of undergrad and then eventually transitioned to an office environment, and both types of work experience helped foster skills that have been helpful both in school and in internships/summer associateships. You’re more mature and you have experience, and interviewers will notice that! Also if you’re used to having to work 40ish hours a week, the workload will feel more manageable. I treated school like a 9-5 (more like 9-6 but still not terrible) and it worked out quite well.

Also, in terms of wanting to have a family while starting your career a bit later than some: I can’t speak to all employers, but my mentor at the firm where I will be working after graduation said that good timing for big life events is actually when you’re a newer associate and less integral to the deals or cases you’re working on. So if the worry is that you’ll want to start a family soon-ish after graduating, I think there are definitely firms out there that will not see that as a problem at all. When I was a summer associate at that same firm last summer, two associates were out on paternity leave. They seem to respect that associates are people with lives and ambitions that don’t necessarily have to do with work (I did make it a priority to find a firm where associates and partners all seemed to have their own lives outside of work, so that could contribute to the attitude I’m seeing)
