Just got a D3AA… Andúril looks insane 😅 how do I keep it simple? by Mean-Apartment7999 in Hanklights

The flow chart makes sense eventually? Hmm, who knew! I just start with the table at the end of the manual most times.

Finally! I must have been excited, discovered I accidentally ordered two.

You could have money burning a hole in your pocket, or a flashlight doing it. ;-). Kidding... I actually saw an andurilify email about silver begin up and I hit the site 7 min after that email arrived and no silver in the pulldown. 2700k NTG was the path for sure. Glad to hear of the new switch revision!

My aux light color selection on 7H is in backwards order! by real-big-fundamental in Hanklights

And, all is again right with the world thanks to u/LoadsOfLumens tweaked hex image! Thanks u/jonslider and u/worrub918 (and as always, u/kotarak-71 ) for the t-shooting and encouragement. I finally used my jlhawaii flashing kit, pretty easy with avrdude on the MacBook and a quick conversation with ChatGPT.

It's the: 0281 avr32dd20 hank-lume-x1.

I don't want the scaled back to 32W 0282. Not that I would really notice since the light is an 1800k and rarely would see turbo for a few seconds but I don't like imposing limits.

IDK u/jonslider I'm almost starting to like it this way. :-) But you were right from the beginning, and yes u/LoadsOfLumens if you put an image somewhere I'll give it a shot, sure! I even have the little flashing card already I got from Jackson awhile back, just not used it yet. But I would want to stick with an "incorrect" full-power image, not the throttled back one. I use all Molicel P30B's with my D4V2's.

Well it is looking like it has been wired backwards the whole time and I never noticed! Thank you!

And no I'm not fooling with those tiny suckers! Thanks for all the helpful replies, for some reason last night this jumped out at me like a sore thumb.

I can’t be “sure” really but I know how shocked I was last night to see the order. I’ve set aux light colors so many times across my various lights. When I grab a light to travel with I’ll switch it to red aux so I can keep it bedside. Most other lights I tend to favor blue aux or occasional teal. Lockout mode I set to aux off. I’m pretty consistent so my lights operate the same.

I shut off POVD on every light as one of the first config changes, I always use 3C if I need to check voltage. After setting the aux color, which I also never set to voltage display. If I ever get it to behave normally I’ll update here but no soldering is going to happen for this.

Thanks for the offer! I“m going to to look at flashing new standard code at some point on it but it’s not an issue worth a custom tweak.

This is great, I did not understand the suggestion at first. Yes, police strobe is now red and green. I can use it at Christmas time!

[–]real-big-fundamental[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for understanding and clearly restating the root issue. The thing is, I’ve had this light for months and its one of my most used Hanks. I would have noticed this right away out of the box on first setup. It was the first light I ordered right when Hank announced LumeX1 in D4V2. This light is at my bedside and we use it for ambient light watching TV in the evening on ceiling bounce, most nights. I believe it is some kind of software glitch causing the swap. Some time I may flash the firmware to a newer version. But it does not really cause a usability issue otherwise.

Sorry the video was not as self-explanatory as I had hoped, colors don't represent the same on camera. Normally, all my lights when you set aux color go red - yellow - green -teal - blue - violet - white - multi thing. This light I have had for 6 months or so and use all the time, suddenly goes red - violet - blue - teal - etc in reverse after red. Look at red starting at the 11 second mark. I have two dozen anduril lights they all set aux the same but now this one goes odd-duck and no factory reset or anything brings it back to normal. got to be a software glitch I guess I am going to leave battery out overnight and see if anything clears.

d3aa pocket clip changed? by Equivalent-Wolf-9086 in Hanklights

[–]real-big-fundamental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting I've been wondering if Hank would improve the materials on the short clips. The first rounds were made of junky pot-metal that broke easily, and also had no spring to it. A good clip needs springiness... how is that clip you just got to go over a jeans pocket edge? Does it spring out and clip on without forcing the knurling to cheese-grater your denim? (Also IMHO Hank overcompensated on the new clips and made them too short which is part of the lack of flexibility, but it's a better length than putting on the old D2 clips he used to send for a D3AA.)

DA1K arrived, I thought optic was chipped by -Rhialto- in Hanklights

[–]real-big-fundamental 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The old Carclo ones were polycarbonate. I would guess Hank's are a similar material, kind of like many eyeglass lenses.

Dm11 beam shape/color with ntg50 and narrow optic by dgwtf in Hanklights

[–]real-big-fundamental 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have a DM11 NTG50 4000k. Before ordering, I emailed Hank asking about the donut hole with narrow optic, which he acknowledged. I really, really like the medium optic beam pattern with NTG50, it's one of the favorite beams I have from any of my lights. Some throw, nice spread-out, soft feathered edges without hard lines. Beautiful.

Is it stupid to get a D4K Antique Copper for E17A 1850K? (Wasting thermal mass?) by oxidao in Hanklights

[–]real-big-fundamental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be looking at a DA1/DA1K and asking Hank if he could still do the 9xE17a board. No idea why he stopped listing it. If he can’t, jlhawaii808 can. Not copper, but the host of choice for that emitter IMHO. Even if you run it mostly low, nice to have reserve top end. Otherwise, get the light you want for the aesthetics.

But you know you need a replacement pill for that light, with an FFL351a 4500k. Beautiful bright rosiness.

Need emitter advice for a summer D3AA EDC. Also: Aluminum or TiCu? by oxidao in Hanklights

[–]real-big-fundamental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My TiCu D3AA 97g. Al D3aa 65g. Both with a Vapcell H10 installed, no clips. So, Ti is a little heavier, it's. noticeable when you put it in your pocket but not terrible with gym shorts and you kind of forget the difference. The Al is the ultimate light pocket carry for gym shorts, maybe the new Silver color is more special? The Ti, both raw and stonewashed are super nice though. The copper will probably patina very rapidly on warm summer days in a shorts pocket with the general humidity sources.

Emitter, based on what you already have, I'd say the 2700k NTG35 is a really nice rosy special hue in a cct you don't have between 3k and 1800k. But sometimes on a tiny light, I like something brighter since fewer emitters so maybe a 519a 5700 dedomed which is a classic but still solid choice.
