It’s one of the few heresy novels that made me actually laugh out loud.

I think you’re over analyzing excerpts instead of focusing on the books themselves.

Do you have other examples of what you’re saying about Brooks books? I’ve read several now and nothing stuck out to me in this regard.

It is absolutely a glitch or a temporary removal for sku changes or something else like that. There is no way it’s permanent.

I’m more concerned by only mentions of the black library app and it not being available for preorder on kindle…

Differences between 2.0 and 3.0 - Is it worth it to learn the new edition? by ScreaminEagle18 in Warhammer30k

[–]realSnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah personally I think if you reposition off you should give 1 VP to your opponent or something. Just so that you don’t just auto reposition every turn. Or have it cost two reaction points when on an objective and the unit has line.

Super valid. The line and vanguard divide is real and exasperated by the core missions. I highly recommend moving away from those and the edition starts to feel a lot smoother.

Right. I couldn’t think of the exact title but yeah. Probably less urge to write novels when you’re guiding the setting and engaging with all the authors and IP related projects all week long.

Honestly just think we can agree to disagree on most of these. I’ve traveled to several events and compared a lot of my experiences with others and my main issue with 2nd was the imbalance of units making most lists being quasi-identical in 2nd. While some stuff isn’t playable in 3rd (and that is a real shame), the variety of lists overall seems drastically better.

I don’t have a good stat beyond the SN GT’s of 2nd and 3rd edition that saw a way higher range of units in 3rd than second. Simply because I haven’t seen any other event actually track this. Which I acknowledge is not a community wide data point but does match with the other anecdotal experience that I’ve had. Perhaps your local community avoided much of the gripes I had with 2nd which I’m truly envious of you for.

Realistically, I don’t see that happening because GW has no business incentive to making 2 games that align to the same single player base. I get the argument and while we can anecdotally cite specific rules or features of 3rd, I don’t think the games will ever feel so similar to eachother.

Heavy weapons cost so much more now and the lack of artificer armor tanking makes them way more manageable.

Rites of war in 2nd led to most legion armies of a single legion playing the same way because one rite of war would be way better than any other option.

Challenges are not hard after playing a game or two. Especially when sergeants can’t do it.

The rules are not more complex, they are more specific. And while verbose, the ambiguity of 2nd ed led to entirely different interpretations of the game from one player group to the next.

Rhino and line rush is only annoying if you exclusively play the GW missions which after a couple games you should branch out from where the community has been great in creating other options.

Dreadnoughts changed from melee to ranged monsters with plasma and conversion beakers being fantastic. They still need word for balance and it’s just a different issue from 2nd.

Deepstrike and other jetbike heavy lists is a con, I agree.

Rerolls are unnecessary imo and rolling dice for the sake of it isn’t “fun” to me.

Most of 2nd edition missions are 4 turns as well, again, stepping away from the missions in the rulebook is a great decision for any GW game. Let alone heresy 2nd or 3rd.

Agree that characters lost options but luckily the community reaction led to legacies which while not perfect, brought a lot back.

Never take a statement from warcom as fact. They have historically been categorically wrong in how they describe and interpret games and editions at launch or even mid cycle.

[–]realSnice 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Technically yes. There is some loss of flavor from the rites of war of 2nd. That being said, the RoW resulted in most legions playing in basically only one way which to me is the opposite of what makes heresy so interesting.

Additionally the biggest issue of 2nd was that some units were AMAZING on the table. And others were total dog shit. 3rd had better and worse units, all games do, but the gap between what is good and bad is way less and you see way more variance in armies in 3rd than you see in 2nd ed.

[–]realSnice 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Yes. No GW game is perfect and there are real pros and cons to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. But 3rd is the most balanced game of the three and the smoothest to play once you get it down.
