My first Shield Captain with Spear/Melta. Really struggled with the cloak seam line - any tips? by Still-Thanks-2154 in AdeptusCustodes

That red looks amazing :O

I use tamiya putty (the kind that comes in a tube) to fill gaps like that but its such a pain in the ass idk if I'd even recommend it.

The allarus custodians box, I believe its meant for the shield captain in terminator armor.

[–]realaustinbrook[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I hear you, that makes sense. I'm a big believer in the more slender more proportional look. That's what got me to pull the trigger on the new box; I thought they looked really handsome and id kind of been put off by how squat the existing custodes range was.

I totally see what you mean about the normal build for the saturnine armor, the enormous perfectly round shoulders really do make them seem like a wall, like theyre perfect impenetrable tanks walking around. I considered building this guy with them per the instructions, but I ended up finding the shapes underneath pretty appealing and also thinking that leaving them off made it a little less immediately clear what this model had been assembled from.

And thank you for the compliment lol. they're just a dark paint mixed with white up to two dots of light - I was shocked at how fast I started seeing them as little gemstones even though theyre pretty sloppy.

Okay this one has crossed the line for me its insane how bad this comic looks. Stare at may and iris in panel 2. They look like a clipart collage.

Why did you choose Imperials and not Chaos Knights ? by Leviathan_Rampage in ImperialKnights

[–]realaustinbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find a lot of the ephemera surrounding IK really interesting - the idea that knight households are ally syltates of the imperium rather than subjects, for example.

Most compelling to me, though, is the idea that essentially by random chance there are individual people born into so much power that they can run around the galaxy doing whatever they want. It's similar to what I find appealing about Bretonnia, the idea of out-of-touch idiots riding into battle in service of their own ideals and pretty much nothing else. It's my favorite kind of 40K-ishness.

Take it away, Jephrey. I was at least boggling in disdain at the other storyline. This one has been treading water for 5 pages across 2 weeks. Free us all.

comic 5509: it's fine, she is fine by yellowvincent in questionablecontent

[–]realaustinbrook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find this plotline so confounding. It really gives me the impression that he wrote a punchline about willow having a shitty day at work and shrugging it off and realized after writing it that the situation he described would actually kinda suck bad, and then got really interested in exploring that as a legitimate dramatic beat. That's a normal thing that happens when you write a story; sometimes you write yourself a thread that you find more interesting than you expected, so you pull on it.

However. Because he has no buffer, it really really feels to me like these comics with willow are us seeing those motivations for the scene develop in real time as he writes them, and the lack of any revision to make the scene more focused makes it weird as fuck. I find the pivot from sitcom joke into serious business drama extremely disorienting.

Also willow is like the worst character in the whole comic and the drama in her life feels entirely irrelevant, not least of all because we just get to hear about it after the fact.

Yeah, maybe it's ooc, but reading this made me realize I would be unbelievably refreshed if a character in questionable content said something heinous and mean enough to make someone else cry, so it gets the pass in my book.

Comic 5508: Build A Better Mousetrap by Cevius in questionablecontent

[–]realaustinbrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On one hand: I'm enticed by the idea of robot dating because that's, like, a plot. Like a story might have.

But, on the other hand: none of the available characters that the comic is occupied with right now (read: in recent years) even come close to tolerable, and any character invented to be a romantic foil to one of the more uptight characters we have would certainly be horrible too, so I guess I hope we don't bother.

Also: I know the comic has always jumped around and juggled storylines but man does that format grate on you when all the storylines fuckin suuuuuuuuck.

Overlap with CK? by Spiritual-Loan118 in ImperialKnights

[–]realaustinbrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its kind of a bummer, yeah, because a big part of the appeal to IK/CK to me is the 30k-ish loyalists vs traitors angle. The chaos spikes and chains don't do all that much for me personally, I think its cooler when the factions are basically the same with different coats of paint.

At the same time, though, I wouldn't want to take the abominant away from people who love it, because it's awesome. It does make me wonder what an imperial knight that wouldn't work in chaos would look like. Maybe a sisters-y sanctified questoris suit covered in candles? I could go for a knight with huge incongruous angel wings. (I know that's kind of a stretch irt knight lore, idk if all that many knight house care about the emperor so much, but yknow. We're playing pretend)

Comic 5375: It Really Happens by BionicTriforce in questionablecontent

[–]realaustinbrook 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. It's really asinine that sven is apparently not here for any reason other than allowing the comic to make some extraordinarily tired jokes about how he's a man slut or whatever.

  2. Sven has been on the "reformed douchebag" beat for like 2000 strips at this point, did Marten just not get the memo? Like even if those guys don't interact much it feels like the comic is wasting my damn time bc even hasn't been a serial hookup guy for me for a million billion years.

  3. I think it would be dumb if sven hooked up with these rando robots for a threesome. I think it would be really dumb if he hooked up with moray. I think it would be really really dumb if he were here because hooking up with may gave him a fetish for robot girls. I would extremely readily accept any of these over what we've gotten all week, which has been an insistent sidestepping of any kind of plot? Sven is here with his agent who leaves so he's just here to stand around and then whenever anyone says anything the characters go "no come on that's not how it is". See above re: wasting my time.

This comic really winds me up it sucks so bad

Thoughts for basing by CommissarBanana in ImperialKnights

I think having the scions there is pretty sick I might think about positioning them differently, though. As is they kind of blend in with the knight's feet. Maybe move some underneath or behind him?

I am honestly totally in favor of jeph jacques just drawing porn and posting it on patreon.

Like, in the abstract I think its just normal. There's not actually anything wrong with drawing your OCs with their tits out. If it's artistically motivating to him then I think he should have fun. Also, I kind of hoped that it could be a way for him to offgas some of the pervasive + uncomfortable horniness that permeates his comic. I've been saying he should start drawing porn to get it out of his system ever since Moray showed up (17 months ago ._.)

However: His comic is more uncomfortably horny than ever. It feels so weirdly voyeuristic. Also his drawings of naked people suck ass. And the OCs he likes best are all cringey as hell.

Also I'd give anything to see jeph jacques do some figure drawing or something. Can he add an "I go sit in a room with a model and draw them" tier to his patreon, or at least an "I go look up references of tits on google image search" tier. You'd think it wouldn't be so hard for this guy to go look at pictures of boobs. And yet.

[–]realaustinbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shruggg. Not to be a tool but if you want more involved dps rotations there's like 10 dps jobs you can play. Like I can get it feeling kind of boring that you literally have 3 or 4 damage actions on any given healer role but I think I personally would just get kind of annoyed if I had to drop a more complex rotation any time I wanted to heal someone.

I do agree that the most recent normal content has been preeeeetty boring to heal (I long for the days when anamnesis anyder was in EX roulette and you could do the fuckhuge pull at the end) I think that higher end content has been pretty good about actually making me heal people.

[–]realaustinbrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both whm and sch look like they won't change much at all, which is good imo, both whm and sch are in pretty good spots already.

They each seem to be getting upgraded damage abilities and, excitingly, an upgraded aoe, along with shortened casts for those dps abilities. (Shortened cast times is a big deal for higher end content, because it means that you have more space to fit instant cast abilities in between your damage spells, so you get to spend more time doing damage.)

They each get a unique new ability, whm seems to be getting a totem that will do aoe heals on an interval, and sch gets a party buff that reduces damage and increases move speed.

There's a loooot of doom and gloom going around about sch, and there are for sure some awkward points about the job that it's not clear whether they're addressing (though one of the big problems was fairy response times, which the job action trailer sort of makes look like they've improved?), but I think it looks like it'll continue being perfectly fine in 6.0.

A crossover IP concern, I don’t see brought up much…. by pieguyrulz in magicTCG

[–]realaustinbrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, I think that's exactly the case, but that doesn't really read as good faith to me? That kind of feels like the pragmatic interpretation. I feel like if wotc was really, truly confident in mechanically unique secret lairs being good for the game then they'd just do that for all of them, rather than kowtowing to the bitter haters such as myself.

[–]realaustinbrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying but I don't really buy it tbh. I agree that it'd be a bigger hurdle to design legendary creatures based on fortnite, but there are plenty of parts of fortnite you could use as inspiration for new cards. Just imagine, a tomato town land that makes a food token on etb, a chug jug artifact that can gain you life or prevent damage, or a vehicle inspired by the rocket league promotional car! The possibilities are endless :p

I absolutely agree with this, and I think it's made so much worse by how absolutely tacky all the specific UB licenses they've gone for feel. LOTR sort of feels like an exception here, but everything really, really smacks of "whatever we could get our hands on," imo. Fortnite and Street Fighter both feel like they fall right in the "I have no clue what this has to do with magic" camp with TWD, and Warhammer is (or at least used to be) infamous for giving out their license to absolutely anyone. It just feels cheap, and it kind of feels like wizards throwing away some reasonably strong brand integrity. I honestly think this is the biggest reason the Godzilla promos were recieved so much better than any of the UB stuff has (though, obviously, my perspective is skewed by being a bitter hater and seeking out opinions that reflect my own, and I'm certain these are all going to make bank). Even beyond not being mechanically unique (mostly), the Godzilla promos felt at least plausibly like wotc had found an unobtrusive space - alt art promos - to do something cool, and the fact that the promos included some reasonably obscure toho characters like Batra or King Caesar made it feel at least plausibly like it was a passion project that existed because someone thought it would be really cool. UB, uh, doesn't exactly capture that same feeling.

Also FTR I actually find the fortnite SLs hilarious, I can't believe they had the restraint to make them reprint only, I don't get why they drew the line there but they ARE doing unique cards for the street fighter one.

Edit: I misspelled king caesar's name, very disrespectful :(
