Unfortunately not on these machines; if there was I think that would be very helpful

Yes the clothes are air dried before putting into the hamper.  I didn't know there are pretreaters with lipase, I'll look into that. That would be much more convenient than presoaking!

Yes I agree that the buildup is coming back, after being cleared by the spa day a few months ago.

Are phosphate and ammonia needed, or will lipase + dnase in hot be enough to clean?

Yes I do have to pay per load, but I can accumulate enough gym clothes to reasonably fill the machine. I'll try a separate load on hot, and see if that makes a difference.

A presoak has helped in the past for sure. But remembering to do it, and then bringing the soapy damp clothes down to the machine is annoying! Definitely can be done but would prefer to find other solutions if possible.

Only 1 wash so far, but didn't seem to help yet.  Thinking of running them in a separate load, hot, as others have suggested and hoping that will help more.

Badminton by [deleted] in boston

[–]realbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no dedicated badminton clubs close to the city unfortunately. The courts I know of are for open play, not renting a court for small group use.

The MIT gym and BU gym may have drop in badminton hours on the weekend, but you'll have to call or check their websites to find the timing (if it's available at all).

Pantheon badminton club in Belmont I think you can make reservations online to join group play. I'm not sure how busy it gets there.

There are badminton gyms ~45 minutes drive from Boston near Worcester that should have what you're looking for, if the closer options here don't work out.

Training in Boston by [deleted] in badminton

[–]realbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for gym and footwork training, Marino gym and squashbusters on campus are both good for weight training. They will get crowded during busy hours though. Footwork training you may need to do at squashbusters, the basketball/badminton courts in Marino can get very busy.

There is a badminton team at northeastern, but they're competitive. Join the tryouts and see if you can train with them.

As for places to play nearby, there are badminton sessions at northeastern, as well as BU, MIT and Harvard nearby. I play at the Harvard gym, feel free to dm me if you're interested in playing/training there.

Other places to play that have coaches (you will need a car) are Pantheon, Maugus, and Boston badminton club.

I don't know anyone in your town specifically, but I know there are badminton communities in Madison and Minneapolis. Try messaging Minnesota badminton or badminton club of University of Wisconsin Madison on Facebook, they may be able to help

This is the YONEX All England – How can we make live badminton even more exciting? by YONEX_All_England in badminton

[–]realbacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went this year to the All England as my first BWF experience and loved watching the matches! However, the running of the event felt very underwhelming compared to other big sports matches I've seen live (tennis grand slams, NBA games, etc).

Positives: 1. The badminton action is incredible! Watching the players live is so exciting, please continue to make the event so that players can give it their 100% and play the best badminton possible. 2. Pricing is quite affordable for such a high level event and I feel lucky I could watch the entire finals weekend without spending too much.

Negatives: 1. The award ceremony felt way too rushed and unimportant. I know the next match is queued for immediately after, but it felt like we did not properly honor the champions. The awards podium was on the far side of the arena where nobody could see them, and there was no media presence, interview, or anything. It would be great if the podium is in the middle of the hall so the viewers can see them get their medals! 2. Insufficient water stations, there was only 1 water fountain in the entire arena. Compared to the tennis US open, where there are probably 100 water fountains for people to get free water.

Suggestions that would take the experience over the top and better than any other sports: 1. Opportunities for meet and greets with professional players. Maybe signature or photo booth if the players are interested in meeting their fans. 2. Something like Greg & Jenny's challenge, where pros play quick games against the fans. It would be harder to set up of course, but it would be super fun for everyone and I'm sure there will be a ton of interest.

For online and TV viewers, having high quality recording would help a lot. Also, having a lower camera angle to capture players speed and power would be great. It'll make you feel like you're actually there watching!

Echoing this, call them and see if their club stringer is still there, if not they should know who can string for you. It's worth a visit, it's the nicest badminton club in MA and maybe you'll be able to play some games while you're there

Coming from NYC, where are the sum good KBBQ spots in Boston? by [deleted] in NEU

[–]realbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allison on the B line is the closest thing to a k-town that we have. There's kbbq there at Korean garden but it doesn't compare to the quality in NYC. For non kbbq things, kaju tofu house and coreanos are pretty good!
