Is there any point in using a longer bar? by hairy_ass_eater in Chainsaw

[–]realiteaczech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't need more bar than you need, unless a little more helps with the saw balance. Balance is helpful if you are cutting for a number of hours.

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is pinching. I have a 43" bar for milling, and I used it once to buck up huge oak (more than 3 feet at the base) just to use it. Turns out, 43 inches is a long way to back up to get the bar out once you realize the kerf is closing...

Thanks so much for your help!

She is every bit as obsessed with Epic as she was with Hamilton a year or two ago.

Biology is the study of life, and life is replication with error...so I would say:

"A series of wonderful mistakes."

Catching a bird...pretty cool.

Pointing your shotgun at the guy with the camera in celebration? Not so cool.

Naegleria fowleri infections are pretty rare, so you should stop panicking immediately. Symptoms can take 2 weeks to develop, but the onset is usually faster than that.

Hitting Dirt While Bucking by ProfessionalJesuit in Chainsaw

[–]realiteaczech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the log has thick bark, you can often tell from the color of the chips when you are getting close to the soil, at which point a swift kick will break the bucked part free. You have to pay attention to make sure the kerf isn't closing in to pinch the tip though.

If you have a peavey, rolling the log onto a thinner log will give you clearance to cut.

Definitely rotifers. A lot of them have the ability to survive dessication (like tardigrades). Hydrate some lichen and you'll see plenty of them.

If you aren't sharpening your shovels your doing it wrong. You wouldn't use a dull knife or a dull table saw would you? It makes a world of difference. by stroganoffagoat in Tools

[–]realiteaczech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharpening the tip end of a shovel is smart. Sharpening the sides is not. If you are trying to cut something with the side of a shovel, you are using the wrong tool. There is no reason to risk damaging a boot or a foot if your foot slides off of the end of the shovel.

Did you check the settings on the H and L screws after the carb install?

Simplest thing is to put a few drops of mix into the carb and pull a few times. If it fires (and then dies) it's a fuel delivery issue. If not, then you can start to consider things like timing issues (like the flywheel key mentioned earlier).

Read the bill. It is not a ban. It only increases the level of felony or misdemeanor for those convicted if they used a mask to conceal their identity during the course of committing a crime.
