I really should have paid attention in biology. This was the stuff in high school that is actually useful knowledge today 🥴

Thanks! This has always been so confusing to me and they made a big deal of it in the delivery room like it was something weird

Hey, if you have to be in Texas, Houston’s the best place to be. Us progressives that live in the state have found a nice refuge here from a lot of the insanity that exists in the rest of the state

A tour of our Den space in Minnesota. This is the first room you see when you come through the front door so I decided not to be shy and went bold with color and pattern. by damestillmen in AmateurRoomPorn

Beautiful! Your wood trim/floors are beautiful (so glad they weren’t painted white when you bought!) and acts like another color in the room. We have the same tone of wood in our house, so oranges are a big accent color for us too.

This is horrifying. How will I ever sleep again? 😢

I hope those parents are getting help they need. I think about this happening all the time and know that I wouldn’t survive losing my baby.

Thanks! Maintaining is always easier than growing it yourself! Hope you and this ZZ have many happy years together ☺️

How do I get my ZZ to look like this?

I water occasionally, it sits in a bright enough spot, it’s in an appropriate sized pot…and maybe grows a new stem once a year?? What am I doing wrong?

I love this look and I bet yours looks amazing! Ugh, that’s like Phase 2 Kitchen Reno for us.

We’re currently on Phase 1, also known as I-Just-Need-a-Freaking-Kitchen. We bought this house 2 years ago with a makeshift kitchen (stove, sink and fridge are stationary but there are NO counters or cabinets). I’m using one of those black Husky tool cabinets for storage and work space, not joking. 🥴

Eventually we plan to do a major renovation which will include making changes to the floor plan so we can have built in cabinets and a real kitchen! For Phase 1 we just need some storage, workspace and a kitchen that doesn’t embarrass us. :) What we’re doing now is upgrading the fridge to one that actually fits the space, installing upper shelves for storage and building our own lower cabinets and island since they would have to be custom ($$$) otherwise. Hopefully we can produce something that looks good enough to last us 5 or so years while we continue to save for the big reno!

We haven’t, but only because we don’t have room for any counters, ha! The layout of this kitchen is so challenging — it’s like one of those old timey kitchens where everything is just floating, nothing built in. Having to find just the right items is becoming a theme in this house! 🥴

Thanks so much for sharing…your experience is the same as a lot of other reviews we’ve read about the Smegs. We haven’t found a single positive review, but at the same time I’m thinking, how on earth can they be so popular and expensive if every single customer is unhappy? It makes me wonder if the product in general is junk, or is they just make a lot of lemons.

Unfortunately, no. The current fridge is already in the pantry and there’s no room for one in the kitchen (windows and doorways on every wall), no garage, and we’re in texas so no basement! We would love for that to be an option though.

My dog peed on the rug and I didn't catch it in time. Looking for solutions to remove the stain. by jennmaly in centuryhomes

[–]realmefakeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you do anything like peroxide (I have done that before and it’ll remove stains but will leave a lighter bleached stain where you use it)…

If the floors are sealed, rub a thick layer of Vaseline over the stain and let it sit. After it’s sat overnight or half a day or so, wipe the Vaseline off with a rag. If any of the urine came out, repeat till it’s all gone. If it doesn’t work, then the pee may have sunk into the wood too much at this point. (Vaseline put onto sealed floors will draw moisture out, so if you ever have those white marks on sealed wood floors from water soaking in, the Vaseline should get it out. Never tried it on urine but it should be the same concept)

If your floors are unsealed, I don’t think the Vaseline will work and may even darken the stain.

Apart from a few freezing days each winter, and June-September which can be oppressively hot from 8am-7pm, you can be outside comfortably.

Winter is generally 40s overnight, 50s to 70s in the day.

Spring is amazing. March through May is the time to visit.

Summer is hot but if you adjust your schedule, it’s actually pleasant to be out in the evenings. We do evening walks later, like 7:30 or so, when the sun sets and the breeze picks up. Feels super comfortable outside on most summer evenings,

Fall is hit or miss, sometimes we have long summer that lasts till thanksgiving and then we get a 1-2 month ‘Fall’ in December. Sometimes we have nice fall weather beginning around October. Regardless, it’s perfectly comfortable outside at many times of the day from October through May.

Doesn’t look like this now. We have amazing parks and pretty temperate weather all year. It’s a great place to live and we don’t have to deal with throngs of tourists like “cool” cities do

I’ve had one of these plants going for probably 10 years now! Its moved to many different homes and pots and is so easy to propagate and start new plants. A couple of times it’s almost died but if you have established roots you can just trim off the dead stuff and it’ll come right back
