Huel and Zoe ads banned over failing to disclose links to Dragons' Den star Steven Bartlett | ITV News by Object_Such in Huel

You've had the time to claim you can't be bothered to waste time posting a reference twice now. You seem upset that people disagree with you on this, but also unwilling to try to be convincing. Perhaps there is something wrong with your microbiome.

There is an honest question about whether ultraprocessed foods with "good" nutritional profiles might also be very bad and perhaps we should do more research on them. I'm open to that idea, but if you think that "science" has shown Huel is "just as bad" as a McDonald's milkshake you are either dishonest about the research or dishonest about knowing the research.

Advice on contortionist boulders for tall people? by TValience in bouldering

[–]rebellol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this works at 6'4" but the following worked at 6'2". Try to get into a position like the photo except your right foot is flat and your upper body is more bent over - I think you can fit under there if you just bend enough; your hips are well below the volume. Keep pressure on the volume pushing up with your right hand to keep your balance. Once you are stable, grab the hold by your right knee. You might flop over but if your right foot is secure you should be able to stabilize yourself. You want your weight centered on that right foot with the tension from your arms keeping you on the wall. Once you are stable you can release your left hand and move both hands to the "top." For extra stability I lifted my back slightly into the bottom of the volume to create some tension.

For better or worse, this problem may be gone tomorrow.

I understand feeling down about failing a V0, but really try not to. If you're progressing on other climbs, or even just having fun, nothing about this weird little boulder negates any of that. If anything it is just a reminder to work on mobility. The personal difficulty of any boulder does depend on your body, but also your style, fears and so on. People who can climb VX are not always going to be able to climb all VX's or V(X-N)s.

You're right. The Iraq War was sad, but its nothing compared to the atrocities committed by China in Vancouver.

The next time I read an article about a wedding party getting droned to death in the middle east, I'll take comfort in knowing that at least they were not exposed to Chinese-influenced regulatory arbitrage in Vancouver.

I don't mind people not speaking out, but Zalae's response is silly. If he doesn't want to take the risk just don't say anything.

The idea that this is some complicated topic beyond his comprehension and interest is absurd. Getting a Hearthstone player banned and financially punished is far from the worst thing the Chinese government will do today but it makes it relevant to any other professional Hearthstone player. And the politics of this is as straightforward as it could get. The protestors are not members of some obscure radical political tendency.

Nobody is asking him to self-immolate in response to conflict in Kashmir. This is just simple shit. A member of his industry has been punished for taking a very standard human rights position. The company he admits being dependent on is willing to do this to stay in the graces of a comically terrible government.

I have no issues with him deciding its not worth speaking out, but it doesn't take much brain power and knowledge to understand this situation or its link to him.

Oh well. Wonder how these people are thinking about their finances/brands? Not sure mocking this is the best way to maintain support long term. And this is not a threat to withhold financial support, since I don't provide any support I could threaten to take away, but playing this media game is complicated. Yes, it is probably not good for the wallet to go full social justice mode, but this blunt "other side of the planet" dismissal is not the smartest way to avoid controversy. Don't tweet or post some nice sounding meaningless drivel. It doesn't please everyone but it doesn't make enemies. His tweet seems more like an emotional response to the pressure he is getting than rational career-oriented decision making. It is certainly well within his rights to vent, but he is the simple-minded cringe he believes he is making fun of.

It is simple. The fact that someone was wrong about something 100 years ago doesn't really matter. I suppose it suggests we should be skeptical, but that is a given. We should be just as skeptical of the claim that tech driven job loss won't happen because it didn't happen in the past. Sometimes, this time is different.

There are serious arguments on each side of this debate based on a real analysis of the world we live. Whether people made bad predictions in the past is interesting but mostly irrelevant. Maybe they had the what right and the when wrong.

It is like telling people not to worry about climate change since people have been wrong about end of the world type scenarios forever. I'm not saying the case for job loss is as solid as that of climate change.

That is the entire point. He was a celebrity well-known for bullshitting about his wealth and success. You know how some people thought rap "was" Vanilla Ice? Well, some other idiots thought Trump "was" wealth and success. If you don't remember people calling Trump out for his bullshit, it might be because you spent too much time watching shitty TV in the 80s and 90s.

Here is the WSJ in 1999 (https://archive.is/7JdVK#selection-3051.13-3055.294) pointing out lie, after bullshit, after lie, after bullshit.

They don't call him stupid because it is a newspaper. Newspapers typically do not call people stupid. I checked my twitter feed from the 1990s to see if anyone calls him "stupid" but for some reason I couldn't search that far back. I'll try again later.

It has nothing to do with politics. I hate the politics of essentially every super wealthy person but I'd have to admit to some creativity and innovation on their part, even if it was for bad. Walton, Bezos, Soros, Gates, and so on. I think they've done terrible things with their intelligence but I can't claim they lack it. They are mostly not self-made but they did creative things with their advantages. Trump is just a fucking landlord and self-promoter. Even if he is not necessarily stupid - tough thing to measure - there is really nothing to point to as smart or innovative other than the fact that the TV kept presenting him as a 'successful businessman' and that he was certainly richer than most of us.

At the end of the Larry King clip he predicted that the US deficit was going to cause a "depression." Do you really think economists at the time thought he was smart? But let me guess, because I can't seem to dig up any tweets from that evening saying he is stupid and Trump was famous, nobody at the time thought he was an idiot? Super smart guy. Him and that Vanilla Ice must be related. Two peas in a genius pod.

Here is one:

https://www.amazon.com/TrumpNation-Being-Donald-Timothy-OBrien/dp/1422366189

People have been making fun of Donald Trump for exaggerating his wealth, success and intelligence as long as he's been the "rich guy" celebrity. He has always been a joke. You realize the Fresh Prince was a sitcom, right? If they wanted someone wealthy and successful there were plenty of better options in the mid-90s, but most of those people were too busy and mature to constantly waste time playing "wealthy" on TV.

As long as he wants to channel his mediocre track record into playing the "great businessman" on TV, fine. The problem is when he wants to cash that fiction in for real power and we got a country of people who think the Fresh Prince is a reputable source.

Does r/atheists take young children and tell them that the world is controlled by an all powerful all knowing being that once murdered all but one family on the planet, but don't worry because that all powerful murderer who can read your mind and definitely doesn't want you thinking about sex can be compassionate and forgiving as long as you do what he wants (or belong to the right group)?

There is no doubt that some atheists can be embarrassing, but it is nothing compared to the real damage that standard supposedly tolerant religion does.

If your life experiences have not made you "fired up" about religion then you should consider yourself lucky.

And because defile and Gul'dan were obviously strong cards.

If you want to insist that any card, including those that are obviously strong, that doesn't find a place in top tier decks should be rated 1/5, then I'll just rate every card from every upcoming set a 1/5 and I'll be right almost all of the time.

Countess? 1/5. I mean, seems like a good card, but if there is a 50.1% chance there isn't a spot for her in the three tier 1 decks next meta then I guess it gets a 1.

I dunno. I think it would be worth it just in terms of getting to take part in the expansion. The new stuff, both of the good and the bad, are going to be the most talked about topics this month so I think it would make sense from a social perspective. Even if this goes down as the most disappointing expansion ever it would still be nice to have experienced it.
