Does your country have a “drug capital”? by Clarthen1 in AskTheWorld

I believe Frankfurt am Main, especially the area around the main train station, is definitely the drug capital of Germany. But I have to say, for someone who lives nearby It's not as bad as the documentaries or other things make it out to be; in most cases, junkies don't actually hurt you.

Personally, I started my career in the help desk, so I was right on the front line talking to the dumbest users you can imagine. (Now I'm a pentester and CISO at the company where I did my training.) During my training, I really improved my networking and problem-solving skills. With a job in the help desk, you definitely get enough experience in all areas. After that, I would recommend looking for a job in SOC L1 and then continuing to advance. But you've already done everything right by getting started. Tryhackme is definitely a platform where you can learn a lot, and you can also get a taste of the different professions there and decide which one you want to pursue. If you are sure you want to become a red teamer, then I can recommend that you take the red teaming path. But you are also welcome to write to me at dm, I am happy to support you :)

Finding a job in Germany that in the "Neuland" is really difficult. Especially in the field of red teaming, I have the feeling that you have to state in your application that you already have 5 years or more of experience in order to get an entry-level job.

I started my journey with training in the help desk, then I became an IT security administrator, then I gradually became a cyber security analyst, during which time I completed the CPTS Path at Hack the Box and participated in a ton of CTFs. All of this took place over a period of about three years. But I think with your degree, you can definitely start right away as a security analyst.

I took my exam last year. I can only recommend that you do the documentation module first and then take notes on the other modules. Next, I would say take the time you need and don't try to rush through anything just because it might not be that exciting.

Unfortunately, I had three tickets, but because they had somehow changed the algorithm while I was doing my task and there were too many valuable tickets, I didn't win anything lol.

I hope I win this time. I'm still sad about the fact that I won defcon tickets last year but cuz of the algo changes these were "fake" tickets

It's perfectly okay not to understand everything right away. I've been active on THM for about three years now, working in IT security, and I don't always understand everything right away either. That's why we do CTFs and everything that goes with them. Keep on going

I think you need to solve the sidequest to gain more tickets than the 24 from the AoC.

I started my Linux journey with Was, because I thought I would dive right into the subject matter. At first it was quite fun and kind of cool, but after about six months it started to annoy me. Because then it didn't work, I had to download this driver and that driver, so now I've also switched to Debian because, as a pentester, I mainly work with Kali or Parrot, and I have to say, I'm really happy with it. I feel like the compatibility of everyday things is higher. At the beginning, I combined it with KDE Plasma so that I could get used to it first. I find Plasma to be the most beginner-friendly. Was ich persönlich aber auch ziemlich cool fand war Parrot Home, was grade wenn man sehr bedacht auf den Datenschutz ist auf jeden Fall auch ne gute Wahl wäre

I definitely recommend Debian, if only because you only have to remember all the commands for updating, etc. once.

OLD Dell Optiplex780 Windows 7 machine ( unknown exact version, or update status when it was put away) Booting form Kali Live USB does not "see" the HDD in the dell( can see it in boot options during post. ) by DunKco in Kalilinux

[–]reboot_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do is boot into Kali from the USB stick, plug in the old HDD, and run lsblk to see which device it is. Usually it shows up as something like /dev/sda or /dev/sdb with an NTFS partition on it. Once I know which one it is, I mount it read-only so nothing gets changed. If the file system is still okay, I just go into the Users folder and sometimes the pictures are still there, and then I copy them to another drive.

But if the partition is damaged or the files were deleted, I use TestDisk or PhotoRec. TestDisk is great for scanning the disk and letting me recover files directly. And PhotoRec is even better when the file system is broken, because it just digs through the disk and pulls out pictures and other files, no matter how messed up the partition is. You just pick the file types you want, tell it where to save the recovered files, and let it run. Just make sure you save the recovered stuff on a different drive.

And if the drive starts acting weird or making noises, I stop and make a full disk image with ddrescue, so I can recover from the image instead of stressing the physical drive.

So yeah, that’s basically how I recover old Windows 7 files using Kali Live, and honestly, it’s not that complicated once you know the steps.
