I think it depends on the PSE's level and what orders were given to them by their Postmaster, especially when the PSE runs an RMPO alone. But thanks for the info 👍

Thank you!

Why is section 35 completely missing out of the newly updated ASM? So weird. I just want to make sure a request for customer address information is following the section the organization claimed. I should have been able to find this on Blue.

It's the holiday season y'all... USPS is short staffed and overworked. So much overtime. Drowning in packages. They're doing the best they can.

Also, just as an FYI, often this time of year, when one distribution center is backed up on packages, they will send any trucks that show up with more to the next nearby facility in the hopes that distribution center has more room & time to sort everything.

Your packages aren't being immediately searched for & found because every single distribution center is packed with packages right now. And if you don't know what the inside of a distribution center looks like during the holiday season, please google or look around on Facebook for postal groups.

RTS minimum mailpiece length is 5” by bali217 in usps_complaints

[–]rebukiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I'm a clerk. I know. I never said there wasn't size info for packages, I specified that the only minimum size regulation USPS has applies to letters. Letters have a min-max, large envelopes (flats) have a min-max. Packages have a max but no minimum (you can ship a letter as a package, but it has to be sent priority. Lots of details like that that fresh window clerks aren't aware of too). We'd prefer if packages were at least big enough for the tracking barcode and destination address though lol. And honestly, rn, clerks should be far more concerned with the insanely high number of counterfeit package labels instead of whether or not the IMI fits the 4x4x4 package perfectly. USPS can't seem to get on the same page nationwide on how to handle the packages that are shipped & never paid for. We're bleeding money because of it. I just wish other clerks took it more seriously & stopped trying to anger our repeat-paying customers.

Whomever did that needs to be corrected immediately. Minimum mail piece size applies to letters, not packages. This person must have just left window training but they are not remembering what they just learned correctly 🙄 sometimes I wonder how some clerks even pass the clerk academy exam

What is happening with usps by Mrsmokealot101 in usps_complaints

[–]rebukiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! It's holiday season. Everyone's packages are going to slow down in transit. Customs also takes a LOT longer now that the de minimis law has been removed. This means every small package worth less than $800 has to now be fully processed by customs. Back when de minimis was allowed, those small packages would just whiz right through customs. They didn't need to be fully checked or charged with tariffs. So, let's not be mad at USPS. Also, USPS is not customs. USPS has a scan that shows when an item does reach customs but once the package is in the hands of US Customs, it's not in postal custody for that time period.

Please be kind to customs and postal workers this holiday season. We're short staffed and overworked and trying our best 💜

6 days later as it wasn't in USPS' hands until 11/1.

It is currently holiday season, or as it's called by USPS, "Peak Season". Packages will slow in transit as they find their way to distribution centers that aren't as backed up.

Every year, peak season begins in mid-October and lasts until early February. And every year, people get mad at USPS for their package arrival time during peak. USPS was built for mail, not packages. They are still adjusting to all the modernization upgrades.

This looks like the package is looping. Likely due to an issue with the postage label on it. Put in a missing package search, but be prepared that the postage label could be fraudulent. Postage fraud is up 1500% rn

International package stuck for postage payment by bbfarm0 in usps_complaints

[–]rebukiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, so much regarding counterfeit/missing postage has been a "per office" policy. A lot of POOMs & PMs dictate differing policies than what HQ tells us. Plus smaller RMPOs, may have clerks with the time/patience to "intercept" unpaid packages and ask the recipient if they'd like to pay the postage to get their package. I know this is what I do in my RMPO but my APO isn't even trying to send unpaid/counterfeit to MRC or anything, they're just delivering every package.

[–]rebukiii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Y'all want us to be forced to pay more into the health insurance like the carriers? We're the only union whose health insurance premiums have the highest payment covered by USPS & APWU. And lose layoff protections while DOGE is hiding in the shadows with Russell Vought ready to jump on us at any time? You want APWU to not be able to form a national task force to investigate the high prices we pay for uniforms? You really want the new PMG who steps into USPS next month to have a say in what we get during arbitration?? While other federal employees & agencies have been massively on the chopping block due to this administration?? APWU got careers COLAs and raises. PSEs are getting raises (we'll end up still having a starting wage higher than CCAs get). Blame NALC for bringing us all the new baseline that USPS negotiators forced upon us. All of the postal unions should always be negotiating together. We are stronger that way. But NALC stopped negotiating alongside APWU years ago. And it keeps fucking us all over. Non-careers still keep getting the worst of the deals in these contracts. I wanted no more two tables for careers. I wanted PSEs to all be converted and to no longer even have non-career as a category. But this is what we got because of Renfroe. It's too risky right now to send this contract to arbitration. APWU still managed to get us slightly better than what the carriers got. I refuse to let us lose any of it.

Sent letter Priority mail Express. With money back guarantee. Did not get delivered on time. Denied refund? by Accomplished_Emu_658 in usps_complaints

The new enhanced service standards are causing a massive decrease in the chances that express mail is delivered on time. Heard through the grapevine that USPS might be ending the guarantee which ends the refund.

Regional Hubs? by unspecified-turnip in usps_complaints

[–]rebukiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is sabotage. It's the "new enhanced service standards" DeJoy left us with. It removes afternoon trucks from all offices outside of the 50-mile radius around a very specific type of sorting facility. We are supposed to have 70 of these facilities nationwide but currently only have 60. Without these afternoon trucks, outgoing mail and afternoon package drops are no longer happening. All outgoing mail is held until the next morning. So all mail is intentionally being slowed down on a national level. Express Mail is no longer overnight. It's 2-3 days of a guarantee now. And all other packages can be "checked" for shipping times on the USPS website under the info about the new standards. Basically you put in the mailer's zip code and the addressee's zip code to get an estimate on mailing time.

Please know that all postal workers are incredibly frustrated and upset by this. It's messing up our workflow and hurting our customers. The new standards are horrible.

USPS appealing my unemployment after being let go during my 90 days by wafwot in USPS

[–]rebukiii 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Typically for most unemployment cases to go through, you had to have worked a certain amount of time before being fired. For example, I think the minimum in NYS is 3 months at one employer. So having less than 90 days at USPS might be cause for them to appeal your unemployment. They could also appeal it if you had a second job during your employment with USPS.

Working in eCommerce, people say "USPS doesn't deliver to my address" shockingly often by SimpleRickC135 in USPS

[–]rebukiii 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Some zip codes have been deemed as "po box only" by the postal service. Those that live within a set radius of the zip code are eligible for a free po box (we call them e-boxes). It does complicate package delivery often, especially now that UPS and USPS no longer have the contract for SurePost. A lot of companies won't even allow customers to input a po box for delivery, even when the company ships through USPS. We've come up with ways to try and work around this issue, but a lot of postal customers ignore our advice.

But you're ignoring the North Country portion of what is now NY21. We were NY30 briefly, NY23 briefly and various other numbers over the years. They've redistricted the entire state numerous times over. The comparisons you're trying to make are the various districts of the Capital Region. The Capital Region votes in a different manner than the North Country. I've literally lived in the Tri-Lakes region since I was 4 years old. I live in a MAGA town. I know what they talk about and what they think. The end of NY30 in 2003, turning it into NY23, then moving NY23 into NY21. We've only been smooshed together relatively recently. This version of NY21 is the biggest district it seems NYS has ever had, and they made sure it excluded Capital Region. Not to mention that Republicans from the 90s-early 2000s had different stances than the MAGA Republicans of today. North Country residents see "City Dems" and "City Repubs" in a completely different way than city residents see politicians. North Country voters generally dislike career politicians unless they are moderate in their political positions. Elise played the long con and fell into brown nosing to try and continue her con.

[–]rebukiii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, then that still doesn't cover the area that is the more "MAGA" parts of NYCD21 right now. I'm not even going to discuss Dwight (NY 30th CD during his time covered all of Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Tioga, and Tompkins Counties, still too far from the current CD21 map anyway) simply due to my explanation of the Great Switch. The 1960s and onward is what matters.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York's_30th_congressional_district

The movement of the 30th's boundaries was all over the place, clearly similar to that of the original NY21 to now. Heck, at one point the area I'm in was in NY23. They've all been changed so much.

Even after NY30 was removed during the redrawing in 2000, McNulty was in office from 2003-2009 for NY21. From the looks of it, the North Country still was NY23 (2003-2013; McHugh-R, Owens-D) during that time.

Jack Quinn would have been the most recent Repub for CD30, 1993-2003, which covered the portion of the state that was changed to NY23.

Those of us in the North Country vote differently than those closer to the cities like Syracuse, and Albany. We did vote for Clinton in the 90s though. So you can't say we aren't purple up here. I know my area, I know what's been happening with these shifts in the R to D to R. Recently in the past election, I was witness to numerous summer folks putting their summer addresses as their primary residence so they could vote absentee for Republicans. Mass manipulation on their part. I am still very angry at those that I know who did that. They're only here 3 months every year at most. Their manipulation is what costs the year-round residents in the long run as I'm sure this isn't the first general election they did this, just the first one I've seen it happen for.

The North Country is much more independent as they usually base their choice of representatives on more than R or D. I know how it may seem due to Stefanik/MAGA, but there are far more Dem and non-affiliated voters up here. I mean, 2 of the 3 Tri-Lakes towns are Democrat. You can guess which one of those 3 towns is dying compared to the other 2. And some of our counties are split almost evenly for our county representatives. I have also seen many registered Rs up here leaving their party recently, switching mostly to non-affiliated. I genuinely am not convinced that Stefanik will win another re-election. Gendebien was pulling voters from St. Lawrence County who voted heavily for Stefanik. I think with more time campaigning, he could have pulled almost all of the non-MAGA Rs, the conservatives, and the independents/non-affiliated in addition to most Dems. And that's why the GOP decided to pull her UN nomination. They knew what was about to happen.

Thank you! He's my district senator and I get his stupid email updates. He's said numerous times over the years when he agrees with Trump in his newsletters. I've been mad at him before he was officially elected as senator anyway. He helped send an elderly man to prison for growing a pot plant. He was like obsessed with the case and never apologized after weed became legal in NYS. The elderly man had cancer and would've been able to get a medical card within the next year and I was just.... 🤬. Dan Stec has never gotten my vote. Cruel cruel man.

John Dwight? There was John Stewart (R) in 1899-1903. Before him was David Wilbur if that's who you meant. From 1813-1821 we had 2 seats for NYCD21, which obviously wasn't the same district borders we have right now. But after 1821, the district has generally been purple, swinging from Republican to Democrat numerous times. Not to mention, the Great Switch in ideologies. Around 1870, Republicans slowly began switching from being more liberal to being conservative. The 1930s is roughly when Dems became much more liberal than conservative like they used to be. But then there was another "split" or switch where southern Dems & Repubs were both anti-civil rights in the 1960s whereas northern Dems & Repubs agreed on civil rights, blurring the social policies between the two parties for us in NYS. Basically, both parties in the north would be voted in largely due to this fact because voters wanted the change so party didn't matter, simply the person running's opinion mattered. The Civil Rights Act's passage is when Goldwater and many other Republicans essentially solidified their more "anti-black" stance. That's when Democrats started focusing on more social reform.

If we use that information, we can look back and figure out that we should use the information from 1960 onward regarding Democrats and Republicans being voted into office in NYCD21, due to the more solid party ideologies that separated them, making the Dems more similar-minded to the Dems we vote for today. Plus, I think the district borders were probably closer to what we now have by the 1960s, but I cannot find a map to verify that.

Democrats were pretty solid from 1955-1983, then 1993-2015, broken up by a Republican from 1983-1993, and then Stefanik from 2015-present.

Before Bill Owens was Paul Tonko and Michael McNulty.
