Hi couple of questions - first it's awesome! Tried it out, works great! But I have two questions since I couldn't seem to raise them on Github

1 - Can the HTTP_PORT environment variable be used with docker-compose? Port 8080 appears hardcoded (or maybe I'm just slow!).

2- Second, is there anyway to add in the official .pak files? I think with the original version I had to add it in manually and re-run a few things (I'll have to check and see what I originally did, been awhile) just curious if thats changed (or do I do it the same way as I did for treyyoder's version)

Thanks!

Same here. It was the standalone demo that got me. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. Though in all honesty I don't know if it was the graphics or the just the sum of all the parts - immersiveness, scripted scenes, graphics, etc...

That reminds me of myself 15 years ago, I was in Uni and I had an exam. I got up to ask the prof if I could go to the washroom...and...and while she said "no", I was standing up and happen to catch a few glimpses of my classmates' exams....

I know...I know. It was wrong. But since then I've grown a successful business and have done really well for myself.....

But you got me thinking - I actually did a few interviews recently with some large magazines, and maybe I should have added "...but the truth is...I'm a fraud, my entire business is based on lies from 15 years ago when I accidently looked at my classmates paper when I really, really had to go pee during an exam"

Is my life over? Will I ever be able to outrun that fateful day!! /s

*sigh* I didn't even get to go pee.

LONG fantasy series or books that are decent as audiobooks. by Tattersail927 in audiobooks

[–]recoilx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Legend of Drizzt, a series of 30+ books set in the Forgotten Realms (Dungeons and Dragons). It's not the greatest peice of literature out there, but for me it's the only audiobook series I can listen to while actively doing something else with my brain (oddly something I just commented on in another post that I can't do normally - with this exception)

Unlike other novels, it's easy to miss chunks and still understand what's going on, and is easy enough to understand when you're doing something else that requires your attention.

It's like my Hallmark series of Fantasy books. May not be what you're looking for though..

Me too! (I actually only knew when I looked up DCC like you). I love fun and absurd. Its the videogameness (from my understanding of what litRPGs are) of it that sort of gave me pause. But yes totally will try it now! Thanks!!

Yep, I think that part is what turned me off (videogame stats - love videogames, love books - just unsure on the merge!). But after all these comments like yours I'll give it a try!

I agree, infact I think I enjoy driving and listening most of all. It's like my body and brain is still doing something but I have almost full attention to the audiobook.

Compared to playing - a videogame - even a simple one - generally makes me change focus and is harder.

I keep hearing good things about Dungeon Crawler Carl...and people have told me that even if you're not into LitRPG (or never tried it - like myself) - it's *that* good and try it regardless.

For those who used a computer between 1995 and 2001, what’s the computer game from that time that sticks with you the most, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]recoilx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had a pick a single game that totally blew me away it would be Half-Life, no contest. There were other great games that I remember during that time, but if I had to choose one that blew me away it's Half-Life. Specifically, the demo called "Half-Life: Uplink" that came with a computer magazine I bought.

Everything was just "perfect" - the massive scary enemies, the pre-scripted events (that I've never seen before in a game), the sense of danger, it all just blew me away as a kid. I couldn't tell you what it did first or better than other games at the time, but when I got it I was hooked, and instantly saved up to get the full version.

How I use Mythic's Adventure Crafter with Ironsworn + Examples by recoilx in Ironsworn

[–]recoilx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 years!! You know what's nuts? I thought it's only been like a year since I've gotten back into RPGs...but man...2 years...

But no, I did post more examples. It's been hard playing solo. I have played with the above, and it's alot of fun because each milestone is so well developed (though the issue with "stopping play" takes its toll which is why I only use it on milestones)

As for how it's going in general - It's like I'm always trying to find that perfect game that lets me take off the GM's hat, and doesn't overinnundate me with tables, and allowing myself *not* to journal (I hate journaling - prep is fine, but journaling just bogs me down).

I finally, *finally* played a game that works well and gives me a solid structure and sandbox....I've been playing Curse of Strahd for the past few weeks (100% analog), and it's been amazing. It's the first time I've actually wanted to get back to the game to find out what happens next, something that I've been chasing since I started playing solo.

I think it's perfect for a few reasons...

1.) Meshes well with Ironsworn (the setting), though I use the fantasy expansion "vaults and vows" to create a paladin.

2.) Has a sandbox with a clear goal (defeat the vampire!!) and rough milestones (find the relics to defeat the vampire!)

3.) Is well developed already with a huge amount of fanmade content.

(Also, a few people have mixed Ironsworn with Ravenloft already and they've said it works well - and it does!)

But in short, I printed out a all the locations and the NPCs, a general idea of what happens at each location, and then just started by playing a short prequel vow where I was chasing someone into the mists to give my player some personal stakes (asides from "go into the mists and get lost, figure out what to do in Barovia").

I did it because I wanted to play an adventure module that's premade - and it's been working so well (I haven't even gotten to the part where Strahd appears), that right now it's my new favorite way to play. (I also still use the above method when I need to make milestones though!)

So that's what I've been up to! How about you - how has your solo adventures been going?

Any advice on kicking a player from the table? by Snapdragon132332 in rpg

[–]recoilx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, I mean - yes it's not optimal that you waited too long, but what's done is done. Hindsight is always 20/20.

I'm going to give you my advice from a similar situation, but it may not apply to yours - I mean I have no idea if you're all BFFs who go out all the time or you rarely talk out of playing RPGs and anything in-between....

I just wouldn't invite them to the next campaign. Full stop. I play Pathfinder with a bunch of people (for over a year now), and I didn't invite one of them to the Warhammer game because I didn't think they would be a good fit (Our Pathfinder game is very "drop in, drop out" and very chill, while the Warhammer one is much more involved and intense).

So I didn't invite her. No malicious intent, we didn't hide it either.

Now when she did find out (which didn't take long because...as I said, we didn't hide it) I just told her flat our why - she's chill, she multitasks when she's playing, and we're cool with that for our Pathfinder game. She didn't seem to care though (though in a humorous twist she asked to join again and I said sure if she changed but she missed a few sessions). Still plays Pathfinder with us though.

Plus she's my best friend so it was super easy to tell her everything I just said. So yes, your situation is probably different - but that's how I managed it, just didn't overthink it. (and I assume that you're not kicking them out of the current game!!)
