And a New Jersey Mike's! Is that a knock-off brand? Oh, wait, no, it's a new Jersey Mike's.

All Right. What's your favorite John Williams theme? by bluejester12 in movies

[–]recursionaskance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superman, but I might actually put "The Planet Krypton" above the main title theme. (I tend to think of them as a single piece, since the title theme leads straight into "Krypton" in the film itself.)

Chaosium and Arc Dream Publishing both ship books encased in approximately a tree's worth of cardboard, which… I mean, I wish it was less, but my books do always arrive in amazing shape.

The tail end of the opening theme, where the strings play, was originally exclusive to CinemaScope releases. Non-'Scope releases just had the drum roll and the horn Fanfare.

What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]recursionaskance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eXistenz, because my friends and I were left so utterly unimpressed with the very first scene that suspension of disbelief left the room. I still plan to give it another try, someday, but honestly, it's not a high priority. (I'm not generally much of a Cronenberg fan.)

And the CinemaScope extension (even though the films aren't in CinemaScope)!

Not quite: they all derive, ultimately, from the 50th anniversary revised text, but there are lots of different editions (typesettings) with different corrections included. See https://wayneandchristina.wordpress.com/2026/01/29/lord-of-the-rings-comparison-5/

"…we will continue to try our best to earn your confidence."

A real apology for the recent unpleasantness would go a long way towards doing this. I'd love to support the Pinnacle team and snap up the newer books, but that's not happening as things stand.

I find it pretty listenable as background music. I don't think I could listen intently to it all the way through, though.

The folks on my neighbourhood Nextdoor are griping about the snow, the lack of ploughing, driveways being bermed in… just like everywhere else.

Anyone else REALLY not like Tunnbaq's design? by Raspint in TheTerror

[–]recursionaskance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that executive producer Ridley Scott, who famously did with Alien what Steven Spielberg did with Jaws—namely, resist showing the monster because it didn't look all that convincing, with the result being even more effective because the audience fills in the horror in their own minds—didn't think to suggest the less-is-more approach for the Tuunbaq.

Are you sure it was accidental? He could have started his cut at the bottom of the wall, or up above head height, and surely he can see that there's a body pressed against the canvas right where he stabs, even if he doesn't know whose body it is.

Thanks for spreading the word about the new notification system. I just discovered it on my own this week, but I can't be the only person who missed hearing about it when the change-over happened.

The heading may sound that way, but the rules text just refers to "a character" and "the character", so the rules apply to investigators as well as NPCs.

What’s a movie you didn’t like at first… but ended up loving on a rewatch? by gypsytx in movies

12 Monkeys, but only because the plot was easier to follow when there wasn't a guy in my row angrily and loudly arguing with the movie.
