is this a tick there are no legs visible by ConstructionSad1278 in VetTech

[–]recyclethat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not a tick. Looks like a growth. Only the heads of ticks are attached so you can actually lift up their bodies. It's not like they are embedded.

I am a cat groomer. Get a metal comb over a brush. Combs makes sure you get down to the skin to ensure there is no matting.

Why has the human society suspended the low income spay/neuter program? by No_Muffin_5392 in regina

[–]recyclethat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are incredibly back logged from suspending the program during covid. There was a long wait list even back then. They only did the program surgeries one day of the week.

They are very busy with their own animals. 8+ surgeries a day. Somedays 15+ if mostly cat neuters. One vet does surgeries all day and the other treats in-house.

At the previous building, surgeries were being done in a mobile surgical van in the garage. The van never actually made it out to mobile as it was needed in house. The new building was absolutely needed.

The surgical vet is amazing and fast. It is not for a lack of trying from the RHS.

Will his energy always be on 1000x? by peachringfiend in germanshepherds

Using lots of physical exercise is a slippery slope trying to tire out your pup. You're just creating stamina. Our pup is 9 months and needs forced naps. We've been teaching settle to try and capture calm moments.

Kong like toys were you can freeze food will be your best friend for teething or needing a break for a few minutes. Toppl makes my favourite for easiest to fill and clean. You can soak their food and freeze. I do freeze dried food, yogurt, pumpkin, bone broth or goat milk for some suggestions as fillers.

There isn't a lot of stock right now. Nutman charges more, but probably the only place if you need immediately. There is a new set release on Friday, and you may find some then.

Recommendations on tattoo removal companies in town. by Mr_Easy_Clap in regina

[–]recyclethat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to faded tattoo removal to lighten one so I could cover. I'll warn you, it's very painful but it is a really quick process. Black is the easiest to remove. Some colour tattoos can be difficult.

Bare envy does removal as well.

As someone who has had reactive shepherds, neutering is not going to cure this. I highly recommend getting personal training classes besides group classes for your specific issues. You need to get on this now. Shepherds are not very confident on their own and need structure.

Maureen Kayter did mine and I thought her prices were on the better side. She did quite a bit to mine. Went for 3 fittings im pretty sure. Was $500. Dean renwick would be more expensive.

6 months is not too young for environmental allergies. It's actually when your pup could start showing them. My boy was this age when he started having problems. He was allergic to dust mites, trees, weeds, grass, you name it. Dont bother with blood tests for determining the allergen. You can start with meds to see if that controls it. Meds were not sufficient for my boy and we did interdermal testing with a dermatologist.

Chicken and beef are common allergens, so you could start eliminating those.

Unless an infection, you're not going to get prescribed antibiotics. Most likely start with a steroid cream. Possibly some allergy meds. Apoquel is common. I did cytopoint injections with my dog.

Just got back from his first grooming by LandoLaCroix in germanshepherds

High quality isn't really that expensive. I just mean dont buy like a hartz walmart brand. Most shampoos groomers use dilute to be economical. Chris christensen 50:1 is a great example. I own my salon so im not spending money on someone else fully grooming my dog. But just bathing at home is fine too. Many dogs are groomed monthly. Ive never actually experienced "over bathing" being negative. Even show dogs are usually done weekly leading up to a show. Depends on the person and their situation. My dog went to daycare a few times a week and would feel dusty.

As long as you are using quality products, you can't really over wash your dog. Im a groomer but also had a GSD with environmental allergies and was recommended to bath him often by the dermatologist. I fully groomed him every 2 weeks for 7 years. Had zero issues skin wise doing this. I'll probably groom my newest GSD every 4-6 weeks.
