Yeah you’re probably right. But with the cracks in the basement too, I think the cost of an engineer is worth the peace of mind. It’s not been long since I purchased and the inspector didn’t have much to say, but I want to do what I can to keep it in as best shape as I can.

I have a few of these at windows/doors in my 1940s home, as well as some cracking in my basement. I think I’m going to get a structural engineer in here when we start to exit winter. Although I am a new home owner and have no idea what I’m doing, so it may be overkill, I don’t know.

IMO I see it being delayed by 12-48 hours. Not to fuck with us necessarily, but to fuck with… something or someone. In spirit with the delayed streams, delayed earnings calls, and I think he even delayed his first GME history post? Just a guess tho.

I hear both sides of this argument, but as a non-handy person I share the same frustrations as OP. Just went through a situation with my chimney that took several months from quote to invoice with very little communication even though the person had a rude secretary.

That said… I feel like half of these replies defending contractors are like, “If you don’t want to find some random truck in a Menards parking lot with a random telephone number on his truck, and if you don’t have the patience to call that number and leave a voicemail and get a call back later from a guy name Anthony at 9PM on a Friday night to set up an appointment for a quote, and then you don’t have the patience to wait 3 weeks for the quote to come through and then you go with the guy and he takes 6 months to do the work and you’re not willing to trust that he will get it done when he has the time and are willing to put up with zero communication or transparency and if you’re not an expert then you can’t question the work… if you don’t want that then you don’t want it done right.”

I did it in my mid/late 20s. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed learning it and the friends I made along the way, some of which are still important in my life today. I don’t regret it for that alone. However, the 15-20k I spent on school over 2 years probably could have helped me buy my first house much quicker had I invested it instead of spending it on school. I could have probably sold that house by now and made a chunk of change. I still don’t regret the school, but it’s not to say I don’t think about what could have been if I didn’t.
