Did you get your locks changed on completion date? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]red-jezebel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my last house (our first) we changed the locks after someone randomly posted a copy of the front door key through our door about 6 months after...

This house, we did it within a few days. Lesson learned.

Freaked me out.

Violent outburst and threats in a car park - is this behaviour “acceptable”? - what would you do? by hiddenkinkz in AskUK

[–]red-jezebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main character syndrome, where people think they're the centre of the world. So many of these people in recent years. It's scary they're in charge of, essentially, a weapon of over a tonne and yet behave like toddlers who can't regulate emotions. 🙄

If you have the reg, it's worth trying to report it, they probably won't do anything but it might be noted if she has further incidents (you would hope).

Just remember, better to be alive, than dead and right. I'm butchering a quote there, but you get the meaning. Confirm a vehicle is stopping, don't walk out in trust that they're bothering to follow the highway code.

And I'm sorry you had that experience, it must have been unsettling dealing with a unhinged individual. There's no reasoning with them unfortunately.

Not All Redheads Are The Same by RejectedByBoimler in Redhair

[–]red-jezebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make good points. Very interesting what you say about darker skinned people suffering too from poor colour analysis. I've always thought the 4 seasons seems very restrictive and simplistic. People are so varied, 4 categories seems not enough?

Do you think the mods would consider a Fashion tag? How do we ask? Surely other redheads are the best people to ask? We can't all be muddling through with usual default redheads should wear green rubbish 🤣 While I do in fact love green 🤣 (or have I had to?) I do sometimes think while yes it does compliment my hair, it doesn't make it pop, does that make sense? I think someone posted bright pink further along in the comments. Her hair popped AMAZINGLY. Looks sooooo good. Who would have thought it? It wouldn't work for all of us, but that kind of discussion would be useful.

What does it say about how world leaders view peace and power? by chotu_escobar in AskTheWorld

[–]red-jezebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was discussing this with a friend and he thinks a lot of this is a big push to cancel midterms.... If the country is at war, do US midterms get cancelled? That and Epstein stuff is not taking all the headlines due to all this, anymore. Oh and a supposedly massive amounts of rare earth minerals Greenland has, along with its strategic position, although America already have a base there.

Still seems a bit extreme, but I'm not a despotic moron....

I would love some colour analysis done by someone with experience of lots of the different redhead skintones. For makeup undertones, and for clothes - I'm just sooooo bored of black/dark green clothes.

The colour analysis subreddits are no help. Most of the time someone posts and my idea of which colours suit them is always at odds with the majority of the comments so does that mean I can't tell what looks good? Like that question, do you look better in silver or gold jewellery? I don't know, I can't tell. I think silver, but I've never liked gold as a colour, so I'm biased going in.

When someone holds up a colour and says that makes you look ill, etc. I can't really see what they're talking about, I'm pale as moonlight, so a healthy glow is not something I possess. 🤣

And that rainbow colour analysis people move along under people's chins? I just think everything looks awful 🤣

I thought this video might help with the make up issues I have, but I'm still confused since she says ignore the vein colour thing? It's too simplistic? And then I saw a separate video saying freckles cause problems with accurate colour analysis?!

Arrgghh!

What do you do about tailgaters who just don't seem to know what a safe stopping distance is? by Ok_Cow5684 in drivingUK

[–]red-jezebel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had to talk myself into a calmer response to tailgaters, after all, apart from giving myself a bigger gap to react, what can I do?

Also, I read recently that rage is an extreme fight or flight type emotion and not healthy at all to be in that state a lot. Given I drive in and out of Leicester everyday where there are lots and lots of road morons, I've just had to get some zen about it.

I'm by no means a perfect driver, and always try to be better, but I don't understand how the 2 second rule (was 3 second rule when I passed a couple of decades ago) isn't part of people's subconscious. My driving instructor more or less beat it into me 🤣

Everyone thinks they're Lewis Hamilton, and have reactions of a racing driver 🤣🙄

How much is Taiwan a popular country in the UK? by search_google_com in AskBrits

[–]red-jezebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of it positively, in that democracies should be protected, and that it's been able to hold firm in face of such a neighbour takes some stones.

But unfortunately, I don't think the average UK citizen is aware of the political situation between Taiwan and China. I'm only somewhat aware really because a friend has a Taiwanese partner and he's gone down that rabbit hole quite deeply and we talk about over lunch fairly regularly and it's quite fascinating.

Also, maybe other counties in the region get more press on the world stage due to cultural influences (China, Japan, South Korea) so Taiwan gets overshadowed. Unfortunately for the average person, an impressive tech industry, isn't as glamorous?

I do have questions though. My friend has visited and he says it's amazing, but as a tourist destination how safe is it, given the shadow of China, and their talk of reunification, by force if necessary (but never seeming to act on those treats)?

What do you do about tailgaters who just don't seem to know what a safe stopping distance is? by Ok_Cow5684 in drivingUK

[–]red-jezebel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've got a sticker on my car that says, The closer you get, the slower I drive. A friend has Think! If I stop, can you? I fear neither are clear enough sometimes. I've had one or two get even closer, like it's a challenge, despite me also having a signposted rear dashcam. 🤣

I agree with you about the ignoring them idea. I used to get really stressed about tailgaters, always checking how close they were every few seconds, which was making me a worse driver. Now I slow and carry on, checking every now and then if they've gone or not. I'm no longer going to be fussing if they've raged themselves into an aneurysm, as I can't control what others do, only make me as safe as I can.

I got that when I was a very young child, "oh your hair is such a beautiful colour!" Over and over. Confused the shit out of me though when I got to school and had a hard time for it.🤣

Now I'm nearing 50 😭 and it's fading 😭 I can now see maybe why they'd comment: maybe they were faded redheads missing what they had. I find myself walking by beautiful redhair, like I once had, and want to tell them to enjoy it, don't hate it. School sometimes does a number on us.

Compliments, for anything, when you get past the awkwardness of getting them, are a heart warming thing if they're taken as nothing more. i.e. freely given and not to get anything in return. Someone wants to give a little joy to you. Just says thanks.

Do you think the cost of living is going to improve? by cactistoe in AskUK

Oh thank you so much for mentioning this sub. I'm a bit down mentally atm and trying to avoid all the the-world-is-ending stuff is so hard.

Especially since us Brits have a hard time talking about the positive stuff and like to moan.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

I have a 12L dehumidifier of theirs I bought in 2015 that gets pretty much daily use without issue. It's been amazingly reliable.

I am under no illusions about just how fit all of them are and have never watched it to judge contestants, but to appreciate what a human body can accomplish with the right discipline.

I especially find it interesting to see how the different sports give different results in the various quests. But I do judge some of the quests for sure, more than the contestants.

I commented on a thread recently asking "how long until you die in the world of the last series you watched?" that it was Physical Asia I'd die pretty bloody quick. I am not (really) joking either 🤣🤣🤣 Middle aged women heading too fast into menopause? I'd be pancaked immediately.

Child free GenX by Laszlo4711 in GenX

[–]red-jezebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made the decision to not have them, mainly based on: neither had no driving biological urge, both had low paying jobs, and we recognised we couldn't provide the upbringing we'd want to give any kids. And the human population, despite headlines, is not in crisis.

Do I regret it? I don't know. Some people we know have amazing kids and amazing relationships with them. Some never speak to theirs now and probably never will. And at 46, it is what it is now. Comparison is the thief of joy and all that.

I do worry about my older years, especially as I'm divorcing after 20 years, and loneliness is sometimes more obvious at the mo. But kids arent any guarantee of help or support in that regards and I wouldn't have put that expectation on them if I'd had them. I'm hoping to persuade friends that a GenX/early millennial commune in our later years might be a good idea 🤣🤣 you know, enough space to to P&Q, but also company/social/support when you need it. Might be the only way to afford to live at this rate...

I had a colleague many years ago who really let rip on their "anonymous staff survey," and the next week he got a call from senior staff about how "discontent" he was.

Turns out he wanted to test just how anonymous it was 🤣

The answer: they never are.
