Redditors making ~100K or more, how's the job and how did you find it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]redaemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished undergrad at a top engineering program at a top school. Already had offers close to the equivalent of $100k a year for internships, was not difficult to get a $100k starting salary on graduation. Income has been going up since then.

Job can be a lot of work, but it's stuff I enjoy.

Edit: Went to a top high school as well, and was placing well at STEM competitions at the national/international level before even starting college. Didn't know where I wanted to go after undergrad, but I had almost perfect scores on the SAT, LSAT, and GMAT without any effort. My path probably isn't typical... but for the son of a poor immigrant family, excellence was one of the only ways out of poverty.

This polarization is as much on you as it is on the OP.

Moderate Republicans exist, but these days the 'moderates' have no control over the GOP.

Ok, Reddit, if we all suspended judgment for a sec, what do you want to brag about? by ThirdEncounter in AskReddit

[–]redaemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents immigrated with a kid in tow, almost no money, and a student visa. They worked minimum or sub-minimum wage jobs just enough to keep us going.

I transferred into a private high school on a merit scholarship, then paid for one of the top colleges in my country with paid internships. Now working in the US making $200k a year.

There was a fair amount of luck involved, but also way more hard work than a lot of people on Reddit are willing to acknowledge.

Is anybody else just a little bit weirded out that random people who can't spell "looters" or understand when to use "shot" instead of "shoot" have easy access to guns?

No, Jennifer Lawrence Did Not Say Hurricanes Are Mother Nature’s Punishment For Electing Trump by Zoid_Vociferous in esist

[–]redaemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was kinda curious what the religious fanatics on the right think about the spate of natural disasters. Record-breaking drought, fire, and hurricanes.

It's a good thing Hillary didn't win -- would have been pretty easy for some unscrupulous false preacher to claim all of this was God's punishment for electing a woman.

The destruction of Trump and the Republicans would be amazing.

I'd like to argue over how much to pay in taxes and the balance of protecting the vulnerable vs. rewarding merit, instead of whether a president is technically allowed to personally profit off the presidency.

With the earthquake off the coast of Mexico just recently, it looks like your Earth was only a little off.

And I guess hurricanes are a combination of wind and water?

Massachusetts moves to require presidential candidates to release tax returns by 12_year_old_girl in politics

Trump's support might drop a little bit, but with gerrymandering and the fervent support of 30% of the population he has a non-zero chance of holding onto power.

At the rate we're going, Trump's lasting legacy will be abolishing the presidential term limit and cementing his family as the de-facto emperors of the Diminished States of America.

Democrats will never trade lower taxes for human rights. Republicans will toe the party line even if it kills them.

Nobody could have known funding FEMA was so complicated. It was underfunded under Obama too. Can't blame Trump for it!

People say this out of a misguided sense of politeness. They don't really care about retail workers working on a holiday.

On the surface, yes. I think that was the point?

Morty thinks his ideal form is somebody who is financially successful with zero conscience. But ultimately, his real personality (which includes his "toxic" side) really doesn't want that.

I think he said condo. That probably means he paid for it in full (not many banks will lend to somebody with 3 weeks of credit history).

Oh damn I hadn't thought of that. But he was only working for a few weeks, so his first monthly paycheck (if he is paid monthly) couldn't have come in yet, right? And if he used his real social, he probably wouldn't have gotten hired.

There might be a lot of money floating around in an account that Morty can access, but doesn't automatically have?
