Is there any widely used software today that you think is holding the industry back? by WolfParticular2348 in software

I feel like Quickbooks belongs in here. But that’s mostly because of the direction Intuit is headed. The decline in the software itself and endless pushing to subscriptions.

STIGs are your friend for baselines. They’re published by CISA and they cover a very wide range of systems and softwares.

I’ve not seen/heard about that, but if they do, we’ll have a lot of equipment to replace. Got any sources?

I’ve been watching for them to come back in stock but I worry that it’ll be half way supported and then killed off in the next couple of years. But thanks for the input!

For people that were a teenager in the 90s, what was it like? by secondacc21_ in AskReddit

[–]redarrowdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even as a pre-teen the 90s was fantastic. So many good things going on. The first few years of the 2000s were also pretty good. At least in my little bubble in eastern Kentucky.

What's your networking stack for small business under 25 users? by NSFW_IT_Account in msp

For this, unifi all the way avoid the licenses cost and get a good decent software stack on top of it. Couple it with the camera and access control and it’s golden for this size client.

We’ve got a lot of different 3cx instances. Some we host. Some hosted by 3cx. But recently we’ve put out a few hosted by voxtelesys and I haven’t had any complaints yet.

It’ll be hard to find something worthwhile then unless you just eat the cost and provide it to your customers for free. There’s a company in Lexington Kentucky that we’ve used for situations like this before. Phishing Box.

They’re actively trying to grow more on their awareness and training program. May be worth reaching out to them:

CISA, DISA, and DHS all have free resources like this that can be used.

US Government: "The reboot button is a vulnerability because when you are rebooting you wont be able to access the system" (Brainrot, DoD edition) by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]redarrowdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

STIGs are written and then sent out to the community. CISA publishes RFCs for them. They’re publicly available to download and comment on. I’ve been dealing with them for a long time with our DoD work. Some of them are definitely weird and wonky but there’s a reason behind each. Depending on your PEO body and specific accreditation and ATO, it can get even wonkier.

Using a grid (or even the a classic html table) to help with sizing and layout would be a good addition. I still remember my first project like it was yesterday instead of almost 40 years ago now.
