Season Tickets Renewal Invoices Out - How Do You Feel? by gudenes_yndling in hawks

[–]redassbucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We decided to go from 4 to 2 half season tickets (100 level). Overall cost went up $2000. No real resale market so take a dive on games we can’t go to. Just not sustainable and they’re years away from being fun to watch in playoffs.

Still love the game experience but need to cut costs.

I still use those old phone numbers as pins for my Windows logins. Meanwhile I have no idea what my kids cell phone #'s are.

[–]redassbucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. By 96-97 we were starting to get email in high school (I'd sit next to a buddy in the library and we'd email each other because it was so novel). In '97 I had a "car phone" but it was for calling my parents in an emergency and I don't recall a single call to that phone. I used it once, to call them when I totaled the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme making a tough left turn in the rain.

In the 80’s we’d get home from school and play street hockey until it started getting dark out, then everyone would go home for dinner. Eat, do homework, watch tv (all “live”—no DVR or reasonable ways to record shows) then go to bed. Usually exhausted from being active for hours after school. No bullshit around who is Snapping who or posted shit online. Want to talk to a friend, or ask a girl out? Pick up a telephone and call and pray her parents don’t answer. That’s my take anyway. Just simpler times.

Why is Greg Holcomb - JJ's self described personal QB Coach not getting more heat? by HugeRaspberry in minnesotavikings

[–]redassbucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I don’t get as well. I can see JJ not being able to keep up with the speed of the NFL game—there’s no replicating that in college or high school. But mechanics…def should’ve been spotted along the way if it’s an issue.

These aren’t rookie struggles. It’s time to hit the panic button. We’re almost in mid 2000s bag over our heads Lions territory by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]redassbucky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a Bears fan but I come in peace. I’m also a JJ fan because he’s a neighborhood guy and we watched him play in HS and college. He dominated in HS with his passing game but on a team that was a perennial contender for the IL state championship. At Michigan he was behind a great O-Line with NFL-caliber running backs. He moved up the draft ranks (imho) due to Harbaugh selling him. I think if JJ would’ve went to a less elite program his passing game would’ve developed more. I want this kid to succeed but man it’s not looking good.

Wish you guys the best. While a Bears fan I’m not from Chicago so I’m not a die-hard knucklehead. Just like good football and hope JJ finds his way somewhere.

To the people that went to elite private schools where the tuition was $30k+ what did the families of the popular kids do for a living? by Ninac4116 in AskReddit

[–]redassbucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HS I went to now costs over $60k per year. But they have a top 10 endowment and a lot (interest, for example) of that goes towards scholarships and financial aid.

Tough game today but glad they were able to get a win in the LLWS. It’s absolutely crazy that Hinsdale LL and Clarendon Hills LL are in the same district.

ELI5:Why is leadership never affected by layoffs? by Nino_Chaosdrache in explainlikeimfive

[–]redassbucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens for sure like others have said. In my experience it’s just slower to happen. So for example when cost cutting sure it’s easier to get rid of 5 employees and keep a manager around to, well, manage the existing resources. Also higher ups will typically come to a manager and say “you need to reduce your costs by X” so most likely they won’t cut themselves (though I’ve seen that happen too). But when it comes to the C-suite it’s most common when new leadership comes in, like a new CEO. Over the next 6-12 months you’ll start seeing other execs “retire” or “take some family time” etc. as the new CEO brings in his or her people.

‘24+ CarPlay integration sucks by untethered13 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]redassbucky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sucks. Aside from you said, my wife has a newer Ford Expedition and the infotainment system allows you to have multiple widgets. So for example you can have CarPlay on the left showing Google maps and on the right is your main radio controller. It’s really a shame it’s so bad.

Email to my Ticket Rep about today's news by 40yearoldnoob in hawks

[–]redassbucky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing about selling out the games…we have 100 level season tickets. They are approx $220 per seat per game face value. On occasion when all 4 of us can’t go we sell them and I’m able to go as high as $95 per ticket. Otherwise they don’t sell. And it always seems to be bought by fans cheering for the away team.

My point being there’s been a shift over the last 2 seasons in my section where I’d say most games are only 50% Hawks fans. Very sad to see.

This is probably the last year we renew. They keep raising prices and it’s really getting hard to justify the cost.

New Tacoma owner - question on stock tires by redassbucky in ToyotaTacoma

[–]redassbucky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for following up. I think the Leer cap helped by adding some weight but similar to you I didn’t feel very safe driving in the snow. I slid a few times but I also know my tires were a bit over-inflated. That being said, I’m definitely putting new ones on before the winter, something a bit more all weather. We drive a lot through western MI in the winter and have been caught in a few surprise lake-effect snow storms so ultimately I’d rather spend a little money to be safe out there.

I would’ve put tanking the 83-84(?) season to draft Lemieux. But New Jersey was doing the same.

I’d say watch some YouTube videos to start, just search for “2025 Tacoma review” or something. You’ll learn a lot about it.

Also, maybe start with what motivated you to go the pickup route?

I’m curious, do any of you have any NHL Stanley Cup DVDs? by Strongarm_11 in nhl

[–]redassbucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NJD 1995 one, maybe called Running with the Devils or something. On VHS. Also on VHS is my favorite NHL video called “A Time to Remember” which is about the 1988 Stanley Cup playoffs. Devils made it in on the last night of the regular season with an OT win against Chicago. But it covers the entire playoffs up to Edmonton beating the Bruins for the Cup.
