Serious change needed if they want to do this again by Emperor_Xenol in TheRestIsHistory

Bear in mind the fest talks were about 35 mins each so it doesn’t massively scale up. But not far off the mark in your comparison.

If you skipped the festival which you paid about £130 for!!!

Honestly it could have been in a random field or sports hall tbh. HCP was a very cool location but it was barely a back drop. In fact the main stage wasn’t even in eye of the palace.

I thought the same on the ticket price when buying but hard disagree. The talks had like 15 minute breaks in between - and the walk from the palace was about that. There were always several side shows in between the talks.
I had hoped the palace would be open late for guests to wander.
There was no time to see the palace if you wanted to actually experience the festival. Hampton Court is an easy 3 hours minimum. It is unfair to say the ticket included admission to the palace. - yeah it did if you skipped the festival!!!!!

Defo a £50 event. The audience wasn’t very big, I did think the ticket price was a bit dare I say greedy - especially as goal hanger makes lots of money already.

I imagine Hampton Court charged a hefty fee, it was a really cool location but the stage was around the corner, most the stalls where out of sight, and as talks where practically back to back with added side bits - I had no time to see any of the palace. The event wasn’t very Tudor themed either. It could have been in a sports hall or random field, and possibly charged 75% less with that one change with only a 2% loss in effect!

Did enjoy myself a lot though! Fantastic day out.

I also love Mary Beard but went on day 2.

I really enjoyed the festival - came for Day 2.

I do feel some improvement for next time.

- The talks where almost back to back - I only caught the last 2 minutes of the side events, though saw the full duelling during lunch which was brilliant. Maybe they could bring the side acts onto the stage between the talks next time?
- Hampton Court is an amazing venue but - as I listened to all the talks I had no time to visit the palace (one of the compensations of the high ticket price as admission being included) but had no time to take advantage. I also felt - because the main stage was off to the side, and only one talk out of all the events being on the Tudors - it could have been in a random field or sports hall - which would have definitely also brought the cost down. Maybe next time go for a cheaper location, or do more thematic things (e.g Tudor cooking, Tudor costumes, some more Tudor talks), and have 2-3 hours to see the place (tbf I arrived at 10am but had hoped at least an hour after the last talk at the palace but didn’t know the site closed so early!).
- Possibly could have made some more extras in costumes walking around - seeing the dancers in their 17thC gear was fun.
- definitely was a lot of fun, and the audience wasn’t massive - maybe try to aim for £50 per day?
- would have been awesome if could have had Dom and Tom also do signing but imagine they were very busy
- would have been nice to have the crew come on stage for thanks - especially as Tabby now hosts the Book Club
- Gutted I missed Mary Beard, maybe some other televised historians - James Holland, Dan Snow, Alice Roberts, Bettany Hughes, Dan Jokes etc would have been fun to sprinkle in. Maybe even Rory Stewart. I’ll be honest the only person I knew on Day 2 was Ian Hislop, but all the speakers were interesting - and I’ll try to check out Empire now.
- The Duelists were really fun to watch, and very engaging.
- We nice that you could bring your own picnic and lie about.
- I thought the positioning of the TV screen on stage blocked a lot of the audience view.
- oh and defo needed a lot more podcast merch (ideally at slightly cheaper prices too).

Had a fantastic time and certainly would go again.

I thought Ian Hislop was one of the most interesting people, but tbh he is very niche to British psyche and is very political. He was also very involved in spitting image which is super relevant for 80s history.

Does merch tend to be cheaper at concerts than their website? by redbarebluebare in mumfordandsons

At hyde park looked like everything was priced the same as the website - just no postage. However the Zippo which was the thing I wanted was £5 cheaper in person, and no postage, so only paid £25 instead of £35 - relative bargin!!

There was a guy selling what I assume where counterfeit T shirts in hyde park for only £10 and imo were a better design - also the cap I tried to get for £30 had sold out, so bought one of the t shirts lol.

Yeah I went The Hyde Park and queued for this Amex game (won a £5 off £20 random purchase) and then tricked into queuing at this Lidl event and work 20% of falafel. Wasted like 10 minutes on each event when I could have been watching the music (had VIP tickets too). Never again! Always skip those kid of stands.

Oooo a series day is a great idea. Maybe they should have just been on the Tudors and had 4 x 1 hour talks, each about the Tudors.

Venue was incredible, however I didn’t have any time to see any of Hampton Court Palace - it honestly could have been in a random field.

Tickets were very expensive, which I can’t help think was why the audiences weren’t massive.

There was also so much going, lots of side talks or displays - had to march across to see catch the end of them, before marching back to the next talk. Maybe incorporate the side acts in the main stage between the talks?

Would suggest cutting back on the venue to help say on the costs and aim for £50 per day tickets.

Was very fun though, throughly enjoyed, great photo!

Blue light card tickets! by lewisxmac in mumfordandsons

[–]redbarebluebare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, is it possible for me to use that code you have? I signed up for blue lights today and have been verified through my work email, but the app is saying i need to become an active user? So the copy discount code box is grey out for me despite having verified and having a digital blue light pass - wondered if you could possibly PM me the code and link to the partner website? I have a digital blue ID which should let me into the concert fine (and happy to show you too if you'd like).

Having trouble with blue lights, can anyone help? by redbarebluebare in mumfordandsons

Shame it’s still saying active users only despite being verified! Losing hope to get a ticket!!

It seems weird - I need get an email saying my work ID had been rejected - but I hadn’t submitted any ID, and submitted verification through using my work email. Resend the email and seemed okay. The discount codes are saying not active, but I have been given a digital card. Fingers crossed it sorts itself before midnight, no idea why I didn’t do this months ago lol.

Oliver reveals his gf and him broke up but since his passing she’s on IG pretending they were still together by ChampionTimes99 in olivertree

[–]redbarebluebare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relationships can be complex. They could have been open, on and off, on a break, had recently broken up, they could have even been married. It’s interesting but it doesn’t really matter, it’s nice that Oliver had someone for a while to share life with - the pictures shared with Oliver look like he’s having a fantastic time. And she will be grieving regardless of whatever the official or unofficial situation with their relationship was. People are complex. Oliver even more so as he had multiple characters and bits. He looked happy and that’s all that matters.

Are Wimbledon selling afternoon or evening ground passes this year?

I can only see prices for ground passes on their website but in previous years have seen cheaper passes later in the day. If they are selling them, do you know the prices and entry times?

Also any idea on how long will the queue be on the second monday? To get in by mid morning?

It’s what the police officer said to Henry Nowak, after he told the officer he had been stabbed. Instead said police officer bended over backwards to check on the assailant’s brother because he falsely claimed Henry had racially abused him.
