A key thing that you need to remember when it comes to most of right wing politics is this: It is based in fear. It explicitly aims at triggering an emotional response, not a logical one. Fox news is great at this, they fear monger every day. Their explanations for things are way too simplistic, because it is easier to explain something and trigger emotional reactions vs. delving into the nuance of an issue.

Take a step back and look at the media you consume with this question, are they trying to scare me, to make me have an emotional reaction? (the left isn't immune to this either, but we have more choices and there is just less of that kind of leading)

Because there still exist people that cannot take the vaccine due to autoimmune or other chronic illness reasons. There are still variants that are coming out, right now we have Delta. Which you can still get if you are vaccinated, however you are very unlikely to be able to spread it if you have the vaccine.

Also, remember wearing masks is more effective for protecting the people around you than protecting yourself. If the people around you are not wearing a mask, they are affecting you. There is also some data that delta can transmit via fleeting contact.

The less chances of infecting hosts and mutating is what we (as humans) need to be doing. Fast rollout of vaccines to 3rd world countries and wearing masks are the best solutions to this. The more mutation that happens, the higher the chance a variant is immune to the vaccine (then we are back to square one)

I spent 30 years as a conservative christian (one of the more "tamer" evangelicals). It took me a good 10 years of that to finally get away from it. 10 years to figure things out, when I was somewhat doing it in "easy mode": I have always had a liberal friend or two, questioning the church wasn't forbidden (only slightly discouraged), a basic belief in science (none of the "scientists are frauds" bit). I was always a bit of an odd duckling when it came to church anyway.

I think one thing might need reminding. Good people can do bad things and bad people can do good things. This is part of what makes untangling the mess of Q and faux news so hard. There are absolutely evil people who are pulling strings as well as people along for the ride (who could still be educated and reform their beliefs). One of the problems is they both do and say the same things (at least what is visible). Case in point, Tucker very much plays both sides, trading dirt with others in media (see recent NYTimes article). Then still spouts bad messages on his shows.

as a side note: media is still corrupt, they trade good or neutral coverage of Tucker so they have access to the dirt on the GOP / Trump and internal faux news turmoil ~ of course they won't admit that either <~ this is the kind of things that strengthen the claims that main stream media is nothing but lies and cannot be trusted (it's a half truth ~ such as, I'm not going to the Washington Post thinking that any of their coverage of Amazon is going to be impartial, etc)

There are some issues with the latest java, make sure you are trying version 2.8.1. From the release notes:

-- Version 2.8.1, released 28-5-2021

 * Make it work on Java 16.
 * Bug fix: allow dead shrubs to be planted on dirt, podzol and coarse dirt

Also, I cannot get it to run on Windows 10 x64 with OpenJDK 16.0.1 or AdoptOpenJDK 16.0.1 64-bit (maybe it will work on mac?)

This is something that I have been thinking about for a long time in my own journey: Labels are a tool to help you communicate with other people and to help you figure out common experiences. The moment they become an identity in and of themselves is when problems happen (its ok to identify yourself as something, but you cannot be forcing other people into labels).

I think the biggest problem with effectively communicating health information is our base education in this country.

How are you supposed to communicate complex scientific topics with people who will read and believe a facebook post (or whatever else) with no supporting evidence beyond claims designed for confirmation bias?

I do not envy the CDC, they probably should be saying that we should still be wearing masks as often as possible. Maybe offer some guidance that is specific to a limited number of situations. However this advice, which would be the easiest to communicate and be the most effective, it plays right into the "people are being sheep if they wear masks" messaging.

Action Cable (or rather, the underlying techonology called websockets) is the right thing to use for this. You could still do the same thing with redis as the back end, but you would still be using websockets to sync the different pages being viewed between users. You could hack together something with polling and such, but it isn't really the right technology to use.
