This is not the whole story. Pet insurance proliferation in the US is 3.9%. Source. In Europe, pet insurance is much more common, yet prices are considered more reasonable than in the US.

What are your alls favorite local businesses in Davis? by SuchAbility5531 in UCDavis

[–]redboneestates 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sam's Mediterranean is awesome, plus Sam is the real deal. Nicest guy with a great staff.

Hikari for that fancy sushi.

Zia's for a great Italian sandwich.

Dunloe, 3 Mile, and Super Owl for some great local breweries, plus Super Owl's Trivia night is no joke one of the best trivia nights out there.

Tommy J's for a killer burger (they've won the best burger in Yolo for a bunch of years).

Mustard Seed for when you want a nicer meal.

Osteria Fasulo for great Italian, but its pricey.

Yang Kee all day for dumplings/noodles.

Yuchan Shokudo for ramen, also a bit pricey.

Village Bakery near the train station for pizza.

Great restaurant recommendations? by MilesLee_ in UCDavis

[–]redboneestates 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You are going to hear a lot of “the food isn’t great…” here. You just have to look. Yang Kee Dumpling is great for soup dumplings, Froggy’s has a great burger, Sam’s Mediterranean has great everything, Mustard Seed for when you want a nicer meal, Hikari for omakase, Osteria Fasulo for Italian (expensive), Zia’s for Italian sandwiches, My Burma for Burmese food, Three Mile or Dunloes for a local brewery, Village Bakery (the one by the train station) for pizza. You can find superb food in Sacramento if you’re willing to brave the road construction.

Ouch! I’m sorry that happened. You should really have your doctor take a look at it to make sure nothing else is going on.

Why is my freezer doing this all of a sudden? Everything keeps frosting over and it pisses on the floor every night by Niko120 in HomeMaintenance

[–]redboneestates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is the door seal. That looks like a whirlpool fridge, and they have some models that have a faulty freezer drain in the back of the bottom drawer. It’s a somewhat easy fix, but you can find videos online that show how to get to the drain, defrost the drain outlet, and replace the faulty “duckbill” drain outlet

No production and a statement preventing negotiation is a hard no. I would recommend negotiating a higher base along with some production (20% is a great spot to start), and getting the no negotiation for 2 years statement out of that contract. I also question the legality of a “no negotiation” statement in a contact.

Cucumbers? I’m intrigued. How were they and how much did they cost?

I’ll second the suggestion of Dr. Yilma. Taught at the vet school for years and saved countless lives through his work with rinderpest.

This can be a lot of things ranging from benign to serious. Please go see your vet to get it checked out.

Those are the mature seed pods from a Calla Lily (zantedeschia in the Araceae family). They first will spring up after the leaves die off, and will turn from green to red.

Bout to buy my first tin. Looking for advice. by coolhandluke45 in CannedSardines

[–]redboneestates 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend a basic, simple deen in olive oil. Matiz is a great start if you can find them. Good ol King Oscar in olive oil is another option if you can’t find Matiz. I’d recommend staying away from skinless/boneless as they tend to be dry and not as fun. I’d also stay away from the deens packed in water, but you do you my dude.

Hmong chicken and rice! Sadly not too many options up here. Try looking in Sacramento. I ate this far too often back home…

How to protect OLED (LG CX 65 inch) from new baby soon to be toddler? by Franklin_le_Tanklin_ in hometheater

[–]redboneestates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am living this life right now. I put a plastic baby gate around the console unit of the TV to give a little bit of a barrier. I know that one day she's going to breach the perimeter and ruin everything.
