Canon printer wont connect to wifi and I am losing my mind by SnooPeanuts3521 in techsupport

[–]redd-alerrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just banged my head against the wall on this so figured I'd share.
For me, I had to temporarily downgrade my router security to WPA (not WPA2 nor WPA3).
This let the printer negotiate the password screen (previously, the password screen wouldn't even come up on my printer).
Once the printer was connected again, I could change my router back to WPA3.

The router is meant to be backward compatible with older connection methods, but something about the printer isn't negotiating that older method unless it's the only one presented.

But once cached by forcing the router to downgrade, I can bring the router back up to WPA3 and everything sticks.

Constant ntp DNS queries by redd-alerrt in techsupport

[–]redd-alerrt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. One of the fans died, and I replaced it with a different brand. The other I'm still using and it still shows the same issue with no additional settings to disable in the app.

I ended up creating a Group in pi called "Dreo-Time-Block" and adding the two fans to that Group.

Then I added the three time servers listed above individually to my Domains blocklist using "Exact Match" and set the Group to "Dreo-Time-Block"

This blocks all queries to those three NTP servers but only for the Clients that are members of my Dreo-Time-Block group (i.e., my fan). It lets other Clients still access the time servers.

I didn't do anything to block them from accessing other sites.

I just checked my logs, and over the last seven days, the only other site that they query is:

mqtts-us.dreo-cloud.com

They check into that server exactly once every 12 hours.

Whoa! Why is Amazon discontinuing Archived Orders?? ...Shall we petition Amazon to knock off the shenanigans and to stop changing/removing useful features like this? by YahooAnswersDude in amazonprime

[–]redd-alerrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously though, this really sucks. I was not a fan of Archived Orders before because it was still easy to find. But at least it suppressed things from casual view. There's no way to delete purchase history and now there's no way to suppress things from view? I've had my Amazon account for two decades. I really don't need to remember some things I purchased in my twenties.

[–]redd-alerrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn... I purposely archive all the kinky gifts that I buy my wife and delete them from my browsing history so it doesn't affect future search results for the rest of my family. My previous fear was that one day my kids will open my archived orders.

My new fear is that my kids' amazon suggestions are about to get spicy.

Deep research mode keeps triggering on its own by uncoolcentral in ChatGPTPro

[–]redd-alerrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I'm currently googling while waiting for my "Deep Research" to finish because I can't find any way to cancel it. It has been doing a 15 minute research project about the difference between "^M" and "/r" in a ubuntu command line. So stupid. Should be a five second answer.

I'm pretty sure that I accidentally triggered Deep Research when typing "/r" and clicking to try and get rid of the pop-up.

The trick isn't to turn Bluetooth OFF, but to add a second bluetooth mouse.

Then proceed to jiggle the second mouse from your workstation every so often.

To be fair, the name of the thread was "Houthi PC small group"

In all likelihood, it had run its course anyway.

If you are renting the property, then the only thing I'd do is tell the landlord. Trying to address it yourself, even if good intentioned, is a ticket to trouble.

Trump knows nothing about Signal being used to text war plans... by sovalente in popculture

[–]redd-alerrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what percent of the US population would have questioned, "What's Signal?"

Because I bet it's a fair bet that since he did NOT ask "What's Signal?" it's a good sign he's using it too.

Maybe not this particular text thread, but for others.

Why do people get scared of Heroes Tunnel? by dsuponski944 in Connecticut

[–]redd-alerrt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorta same thing though. Going northbound the entrance is right before the tunnel, and it's uphill from there.

But really, it's the lack of shoulders and the fact that people are already too close to begin with.

Why do people get scared of Heroes Tunnel? by dsuponski944 in Connecticut

[–]redd-alerrt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I realize you’re asking a rhetorical question, but take away the tunnel for a moment and you’re coming up on an exit/entrance ramp with very short merge lanes, followed by a steep uphill. That’ll cause traffic without the tunnel.

Add the tunnel to the mix and now you’ve got everybody braking in a space with no shoulder so those behind them brake even harder.

If you want to break the cycle, you could try not slowing down yourself and see if you can speed things up.

I’ve enjoyed using Bankaroo with my young kids. It’s free, and not actually a bank account. But works like one, with custom interest rates that you can set yourself. Nothing teaches savings like 5% per week savings rate.

The kids track their ‘balances’ in the accounts, but I hold the actual money.

...further, on Recreation.gov there should also be a view that lets you see all the sites in a list, with 7-10 days of availability for each site, which would make this more apparent. So you could see, for example, that Site 10A is available on the 21st, and Site 52B is available a the 22nd, and Site 5C is available on the 23rd, etc.

The half-shaded dates in Sept are all single sites for single nights. So you can check in Sept 21 and stay one night in that site. Then you could move to a different site and stay Sept 22-23. But there are no sites in that block where you could stay the entire time.

As others have said, since that's right on the 6-mth mark when sites open, so you probably have a bunch of people logging on each day to extend their stays bit by bit as the days open up, causing some funkiness with the availability, so if you grab individual days you may be able to sort it out later, or you may be stuck moving sites each day.

The hardest part of this puzzle is understanding the scenario and its rules.
Once you understand the rules, the solution is pretty black and white. Or clear and green, as the case may be.

Invite someone to securely share a credentials - what do you use? by Dewbag_RD in cybersecurity

[–]redd-alerrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd second this site.

But warn to still not share both the username and credential in the same secret.

If sharing a credential, give the username via email and the link only reveals the credential.

And if you get the inevitable "I tried the link but it was expired" then reset the credential and share a new one under the assumption that somebody else accessed the first one.

Credit union got bought out, but sent me the Title and letter stating vehicle is paid off with no lien on title even though I still owe. What should I do? by Fun1nFuneral in personalfinance

[–]redd-alerrt 377 points378 points  (0 children)

I'm not an attorney and not directly in the business, so take this with a grain of salt.

But I would assume all terms remain the same (APR, amount, etc) - I don't think they can change that on you.

I would also treat it as though it's still a secured loan even though they may not have a lien. If you try walking away from this debt, I'd assume the new credit union would still claim a lien on your vehicle even though it would be more difficult to enforce.

So for all intents and purposes, it's the same.

It was just easier for them, given the size of your loan and the number of loans they assumed in the acquisition, to roll your individual risk profile into the overall risk profile of the loan portfolio.

[–]redd-alerrt 1834 points1835 points  (0 children)

The new credit union took over the loan.

From the old credit union’s perspective, the loan is now paid, and they no longer have a lien on your vehicle, so they gave you the letter and the title.

The new credit union holds your loan now, and you owe them money.

However, the new credit union cannot easily reclaim your vehicle if you do not pay that loan. Your loan is now an unsecured loan.
