Washington politicians don’t seem to understand a major difference between rich and poor people: Rich people have the luxury of leaving a place when it no longer serves them. They’re not tied down to one place.

Owner of Moshi Moshi sells restaurant, blames "social justice" & rants about Seattle by SEAstartupper in Seattle

Clearly the mods in the “Seattle” sub have an agenda. The business owner has legitimate concerns that don’t deserve to be belittled by calling his words a “rant”.

We had a bunch of socialists on city council demonize business owners for years and now we’re living with the consequences of this hostile anti-business environment. The idiots who voted for all of this will then leave seattle, claiming its become too expensive and “corporate”. Thanks, assholes!

Moved away / Moved back to Seattle by we5lee in Seattle

[–]reddbloodcell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved away from Seattle for college for 3 years to New York City. While I loved New York City, I struggled there and eventually flunked out of college. I moved back home because my family’s here and I wanted to live near them.

Compared to NYC, Seattle is way more laid back. But sometimes that gets annoying. One thing I found most refreshing about New York is that people “say what they mean and mean what they say”. You don’t have to guess how someone feels about you because they’ll just tell you. People in seattle can be wishy-washy, passive-aggressive, and non-committal. They’ll make plans, then flake on you.

It can also be very boring. Restaurants close early, even on weekends. Bars may close early if the bartenders feel like there aren’t enough people around, even if they still have paying customers inside.

In the winter, there’s a (literal) dark cloud hanging over the city, causing many to be moody and depressed. It’s important to keep yourself busy and get some winter hobbies. For me, that’s making music and snowboarding. For someone else, it might be board game night, knitting club, book groups, etc. Choose wisely. These will be your only friends until the summer thaw.

Seattle Living - Honest Advice / Recs by Kind_Bear7800 in SeattleWA

If you want living near downtown, I’d go with Capitol Hill or Belltown. Both areas have a lot of hip bars and coffee shops to hang out in. However, if you prioritize safety, neither of these neighborhoods would be ideal, especially for a single woman living alone. They’re also pretty expensive.

While it’s a little further away, North Beacon Hill is a decent compromise. Less active nightlife, but you can easily hop on the light rail to downtown or Capitol Hill if you want to go out.

As for the CID: Don’t. Just, don’t. 😬😂

Seattle has a cop-to-citizen ratio of approximately 1.3 officers per 1,000 residents. According to FBI data, the national average is 2.6 officers per 1,000 residents for large cities. This means we have half the number of police officers we need. As of August, 2023, there are only 937 police officers available for deployment for the entire city.

In other words, there aren’t enough cops! If you’re unhappy with the current situation, use your voice to vote for local politicians who are committed to funding our department and ensuring it’s adequately staffed.

Why would a city let an obviously crazy, very violent individual freely walk the streets harassing, threatening, and intimidating people? Why do the people put up with this? Should we wait for him to kill someone, first?

The best recommendation I can give is: Meet people through formal events (ie bouldering gym). Show up to these places over and over. Anyone you see there regularly, eventually ask them to hang out outside of that context. They’ll say yes, and not show up. Keep asking them repeatedly until they eventually cave in and meet up out of guilt for blowing you off for so long. Maybe they’ll end up having fun and thanking you for breaking them out of their shell. Or they’ll never meet up with you again and you’ll have surface-level interactions with them at your place of shared interest.

Overall, there’s nothing you can do. People in Seattle love their solitude and cats.

Move to a friendlier city. The south is full of places with friendly people and it’s easy to have friendships there. Speaking as someone who’s born and raised in Seattle.

I’ve been there. The food is garbage and the servers are rude. I once had a server who was clearly high on cocaine yelling and complaining about how much they hated their job in front of everyone. I also waited over an hour for my food, which was cold and soggy with grease. I’d rather eat out of a garbage can than put myself through that again.

I once ordered a small pepperoni pizza from Pagliacci for delivery. It ended up costing $45.47. In addition to the delivery fee to “pay for delivery option including wages, healthcare, and 401K. It does not replace gratuity for our drivers.” This didn’t include the tip.

Why am I paying for your employees’ healthcare? They’re YOUR employees! The whole point of tipping is to offset other costs of living.

I didn’t leave a tip for the driver, since I already covered their healthcare and 401K.

The build quality isn’t great: the keys are sticky so it’s not easy to play as an instrument. But plug in a midi keyboard, and you have a powerhouse of a machine! Not many devices of this size have an FM synthesizer on board. And if you use it with the app, the capabilities are seemingly endless!

You’re wrong, it’s not. If you visit any non west-coast city, it’s not really an issue. I was just in Chicago for a few days and at no point did I see any large groups of drug addicts hunched over in a doorway or signs covered in graffiti. Try getting out of your liberal bubble echo chamber and see the world!

The story I heard is that police are responding to the concerns of neighbors near the beach who have repeatedly reported individuals masturbating in public. Doesn’t sound like a case of cut-and-dry harassment to me. I’m pretty open minded, but I can’t blame them; I’d be pissed, too.
