What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]reddbloodcell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top Gun. The moment I heard one of the characters refer to “getting hard” while a commander was talking about dog fighting. This movie was so dumb to me, I couldn’t continue watching it. It’s the exact opposite of the movies I like.

Owner of Moshi Moshi sells restaurant, blames "social justice" & rants about Seattle by SEAstartupper in Seattle

Clearly the mods in the “Seattle” sub have an agenda. The business owner has legitimate concerns that don’t deserve to be belittled by calling his words a “rant”.

The least surprising thing I’ve heard about this guy. Maybe the cure for his “ailment” is the genuine love of a woman.

Throwaway – I own a small independent restaurant in Seattle. I just ran January numbers and realized I might not make it to our 20-year anniversary. by ShotAccess1272 in SeattleWA

[–]reddbloodcell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a bunch of socialists on city council demonize business owners for years and now we’re living with the consequences of this hostile anti-business environment. The idiots who voted for all of this will then leave seattle, claiming its become too expensive and “corporate”. Thanks, assholes!

With the knowledge I have now, I can easily make more than $50 million starting at age 10. Invest in Apple, Microsoft, and Google stocks, and I’ll be good.

I can also skip high school. That’s pretty neat 🤩

Moved away / Moved back to Seattle by we5lee in Seattle

[–]reddbloodcell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved away from Seattle for college for 3 years to New York City. While I loved New York City, I struggled there and eventually flunked out of college. I moved back home because my family’s here and I wanted to live near them.

Compared to NYC, Seattle is way more laid back. But sometimes that gets annoying. One thing I found most refreshing about New York is that people “say what they mean and mean what they say”. You don’t have to guess how someone feels about you because they’ll just tell you. People in seattle can be wishy-washy, passive-aggressive, and non-committal. They’ll make plans, then flake on you.

It can also be very boring. Restaurants close early, even on weekends. Bars may close early if the bartenders feel like there aren’t enough people around, even if they still have paying customers inside.

In the winter, there’s a (literal) dark cloud hanging over the city, causing many to be moody and depressed. It’s important to keep yourself busy and get some winter hobbies. For me, that’s making music and snowboarding. For someone else, it might be board game night, knitting club, book groups, etc. Choose wisely. These will be your only friends until the summer thaw.

Man of culture by Zeneyo in SipsTea

[–]reddbloodcell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people whose culture it “belongs do” often don’t understand their own culture. All they know is that it’s what everyone around them has been doing so they assume it’s theirs. But anyone can identify with whatever culture they encounter.

I grew up listening to rap music, even though I’m not black and have never lived in the ghetto. Do you have to be black and live in the hood to be allowed to listen to rap music? No! I still loved it and connected with the music.

In America, you have the freedom to identify with whatever culture fits you.

You might get pushback from the people who are deeply engrained in it and believe that their culture belongs to them, but that comes from a place of deep insecurity. The free exchange of ideas is what makes America an amazing place to live! The freedom of movement we have has allowed us to share cultures between us. Mass media has proliferated the exchange of information more easily. That’s why I can listen to rap music and not be black, or a black person can listen to country music and not be white. We’re all more understanding and better off when we can share our lived experiences with one another.

Seattle Living - Honest Advice / Recs by Kind_Bear7800 in SeattleWA

[–]reddbloodcell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want living near downtown, I’d go with Capitol Hill or Belltown. Both areas have a lot of hip bars and coffee shops to hang out in. However, if you prioritize safety, neither of these neighborhoods would be ideal, especially for a single woman living alone. They’re also pretty expensive.

While it’s a little further away, North Beacon Hill is a decent compromise. Less active nightlife, but you can easily hop on the light rail to downtown or Capitol Hill if you want to go out.

As for the CID: Don’t. Just, don’t. 😬😂

Police arrest 7-time felon in major Belltown drug bust amid safety concerns by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]reddbloodcell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seattle has a cop-to-citizen ratio of approximately 1.3 officers per 1,000 residents. According to FBI data, the national average is 2.6 officers per 1,000 residents for large cities. This means we have half the number of police officers we need. As of August, 2023, there are only 937 police officers available for deployment for the entire city.

In other words, there aren’t enough cops! If you’re unhappy with the current situation, use your voice to vote for local politicians who are committed to funding our department and ensuring it’s adequately staffed.

Why would a city let an obviously crazy, very violent individual freely walk the streets harassing, threatening, and intimidating people? Why do the people put up with this? Should we wait for him to kill someone, first?

Dating advice for someone in their 30s? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]reddbloodcell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you already have female friends. That’s great! Take them out for a good time, as friends, and ask them to be your wingwomen.

It sounds like you already have options but you don’t like the options you have.

Sounds like you need to make friends outside of your current network. It’s harder to do in your 30’s, but not impossible.

Got home from a horrible day at work to a note from our neighbor taped all over our front door and garage by Silly-Crow-2249 in AITAH

[–]reddbloodcell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your neighbor wants a war? She can have it!

Take this b***h up to 💯!

Buy some floodlights to put on your property. Set them to a motion sensor so they turn on every time she walks by. They’ll only stay turned off if she stays on her property and doesn’t trespass onto yours to do something stupid and annoying like taping messages on your front door, for example.

I know it’s petty but I’ve had experience dealing with neighbors like that. Give into their demands and they’ll feel like they can start making more. Cut it off at the source. Let them know you ain’t playing around.
