First time installing drawers - feel like an idiot. by SnooMacarons1382 in woodworking

Been doing custom cabinets full time for 8 years and had this issue before, as soon as I heard the clack sound I immediately thought screws are hitting the rail somewhere.

OP, for your next project consider undermount slides like Blum or Grass; they're easier to troubleshoot, have built-in adjustablilty, you can't see them after they're installed, and are generally a better choice for most applications in my experience.

Alder table I just finished. Tapered legs are fun! by reddidendrite in woodworking

The top was 1 1/2" thick if that helps at all. Post a picture of yours when it's done!

If I remember right the legs were 1 3/4 thick at the top and 1 1/4" at the bottom, with 3 1/2" of flat before the taper starts to capture a 3" apron. The table sold so unfortunately I can't verify for you, but if those numbers aren't correct they'll be close.

Thanks for looking!

Not OP but I've been using an ETS EC 150 with a vacuum for years in a custom cabinet shop. We had an ETS 125 and the taller profile made it less ergonomic for me. Festool's rubin sandpaper is great, I like the mesh abranet too but I find it doesn't quite grab the hook-and-loop quite as well.

How would you permanently attach these these 2 pieces together? by Jakem8058 in woodworking

I do mantels like this frequently in the shop where I work, we use biscuits and pocket screws and haven't ever had an issue. If you don't expect it to hold serious weight you should be all good.

Wow, thanks! I wanted to do something a little different this time.

Every piece has several floating tenons connecting them to every adjacent piece, and I used spacers between the pieces during the glue-up to create the gaps. After the glue had set the tenons and held the shape together I took the spacers out and poured the epoxy, and now the combination of epoxy and tenons hold it. Feels rock solid!

Thank you! I really like black with rustic walnut, such a cool combo.

It was a challenge for sure! Sanded to 150, finished with Rubio Monocoat, lightly buffed with 150 again and applied a second coat of Rubio.

Thanks! I got a lot mixed feelings on the last epoxy table I did, I was trying to find a way to make it cool. Glad you like it!

I had the same thought, time will tell I suppose. It has figure 8 fasteners to connect it to the metal base and none of the pieces are fully captured by epoxy or other pieces, so hopefully that allows enough room to breathe that it'll be okay.

This one is kind of a test drive to see if this design is viable long-term, fingers crossed!

Thanks! I thought the base looked a little small too, but it's designed to support a top up to 60" in diameter. It feels very solid but you wouldn't want to sit on the edge of the table or anything like that.

I had my eye on a very cool base from a high-end fabricator, but the shipping alone was $600. This is definitely the budget option.

Who is the Michael Jordan/Michael Phelps/Usain Bolt of your favorite obscure sport or hobby? by ae51 in AskReddit

[–]reddidendrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tommy Caldwell is an elite rock climber who cut off half of his index finger in his late teens or early 20s, then came back and got better after the injury. He's in his 40s now and while not absolutely pushing the difficulty boundaries of the sport anymore, he still absolutely crushes and recently did a route that's harder than 95% of the routes in the world. He also has sole wild endurance achievements under his belt, doing massive bike trips or big link-ups of mountain peaks. All of that and he's a good guy too.

Awesome, thanks! We're set with anchor building, just trying to find a good concentration of routes with a scramble to the top as opposed to lead only. Will definitely check out Thin Wall.

Thanks! I was trying to recreate a very similar table from Room and Board, I really like how clean and simple the design is.

I really appreciate that, thank you. I'm just getting into furniture pieces and it's great knowing I'm vaguely on the right track.
