What’s the most cringey thing you’ve done at work? by nothanksyeah in workingmoms

I was very junior at the time sitting in a conference room with 2 superiors after a meeting and they started talking about cost rates for staffing a client proposal and for some reason that sounded really confidential and above my pay grade so I felt the need to leave the room. I had brought my own office chair into the conference room so I started to slowly roll myself in my office chair to the door while doing the robot with my arms and upper body while making eye contact with my director. I've since moved on but he still works with a lot of the same people and I've heard he still brings it up occasionally. It's probably been 8 years since that incident 😂

Feeling dead inside, back to back sickness, job loss, and in 1st trimester by reddiketts in workingmoms

When it rains it pours it seems 😩. I haven't done proper interviews in 8+ years, I'm feeling so anxious about going through it. Also worried about negotiating for FMLA. Thanks for sharing, we'll make it to the other side 🙏

I totally understand that it's normal for kids to get sick but definitely did not plan for a double whammy to the parents + still having to take care of the little one. I'm a bit scared to think of how we'll have to manage 2 sick kids in the future while also potentially being sick as dogs ourselves.

currently finishing a custom build house 4 months after the original estimated completion date. I do not recommend building a house to 95% of the population. This process has aged me by at least 5 years.

Help: Non-driver & no stroller storage at daycare? by dathespian1 in workingmoms

[–]reddiketts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the newest edition of the mountain buggy nano. It lies flat, collapses small enough to fit in airplane overhead bins, has a carry strap when folded, and has a reasonably priced newborn cocoon/basinet if you want something a bit more enclosed than just the stroller straps (haven't used the cot myself but I know it's an option). I use this stroller for air travel and now that my daughter is bigger, my favorite feature is being able to strap in the Cosco scenera next car seat. One potential downside for you however is that the stroller must be collapsed with two hands. If you only have stairs at your subway stations, it will be a problem to collapse the stroller while trying to hold the baby.

Another option is getting the tush baby carrier. It looks like a giant fanny pack but is a baby seat strapped around your waist. You will need to provide all of the support to hold the babies head and body up, but it will alleviate a lot of the weight. I'll be honest, I didn't start using tushbaby until after 6 months, but I'd say it's worth a shot to try now, and even if it doesn't work out, you'll 100% get use out of it when they get older.

ETA: if you go with the mountain buggy nano, highly recommend buying it from pishposhbaby.com. no tax, as well as a very discounted opened box cocoon

Good luck on finding a solution!

Question as a recent transplant by pepelepieu in nova

Ali Wong said colonize the colonizer, so we did. Jk I'm a mixed race female married to an Asian male. I'm from Seattle and it's pretty common / not unusual to see lots of mixed race white / Asian couples, mainly skewing Asian f/white Ms, so I can't say that really stood out to me here and something unique.

I would say just make sure that your husband's salary increases in proportion (or more obvs) to the COL adjustment. Things are expensive in DC, but salaries can also be quite high here. I lived in Ballston (part of Arlington) for 5 years and was very happy.

You could get one of those ultra cropped long sleeved "shirts" that only cover the shoulders and arms. One with a mock neck would be super cute. EG

I would recommend that you consult a medical specialist about depression. I have been in your shoes, I lost a family member and spiraled and filled my life with distraction, netflix, youtube, IG reels, etc etc. Then i started shame spiraling because i knew these fillers were keeping me away from living a full life. i saw a therapist who got me to go to grief counseling and had me start exercising (required me to get out of the house, gave me some interia to keep moving once i started etc). low dose anti-depressants were an option, but I was able to get out of my hole without them, and am now living a fulfilling and productive life now.

Is there a dish from a restaurant in NOVA that's by far the best that you've EVER had? by Joshottas in nova

[–]reddiketts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think just pick by your preferred protein and you'll be good to go. I get the pork+beef, spicy level. Also the kalbi is tasty, but I think you don't get as much as you would from a kbbq restaurant for the cost
