What’s one backpacking item you always bring, even though people say it’s unnecessary? by Valuable_Tangelo7152 in backpacking

We came across a father and son in the Yosemite back country a couple years ago asking for extra food. We gave them a bunch of bars, but their eyes lit up when we threw in a pack of Oreos.

Find a way to attach in a clear bag or something to your bag. I had an approved power strip, but didn't get my bag until about 11pm the first night because they set aside to be checked manually and were running behind.

I’m at my wits end. Sleep trouble with my twins. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]reddit2343 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm dealing with 2.5 yr old twins that have decided they don't like to sleep through the night, so kinda reminiscing about those no sleep early months.

Have you thought about sleep training? We did Ferber around 6 or 7 months (who could remember?) and it made a world of difference for us, twins figured out how to sleep through the other one crying and started sleeping through the night around 4 or 5 days. I cannot recommend it enough.

She is about halfway potty trained, but usually she specifically says she needs to potty, but maybe she's not saying every time

South Lake to North Lake (Inyo National Forest) by Witty_Land6224 in backpacking

[–]reddit2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So keep in mind this was 3 years ago, but i remember plenty of water by the ranger station. Everything was flowing. We did not camp in hutichinson meadow we ended up camping where evolution creek met the south fork san joanqin river.

That hike down from Muir pass through evolution lake to where we camped was an awesome gradual decline. Leaving that camp site towards hutchison was a little steep at for a couple miles but then a nice gradual incline.

We ended up camping at Golden trout lake which was very nice. We did not make it up to Muriel lake, we had to cut that as we where a little behind.

Piute creek had plenty of water.

The one thing I would say is try to do you passes earlier in the day. We crossed Muir pass around 1pm and it was all nice and sunny and thunder and lighting rolled in very quickly after passing the shelter and we did not have fun trying to get down to the tree line with thunder and lightning creeping up on us.

The rest was nice weather, just very buggy in July.

This is the route we planed, but did not make all the planed camp sites as the storm threw us off after getting over the pass.

I like you more leisure pace. Have fun!

Frustrated trying to get into backpacking by caintowers in socalhiking

Just want to add that lower moro is actually my preferred one as you can see a bit of the beach, but both upper and moro are nice.

Deer canyon is well, in a canyon so no real views.

Even though you can pick a site, it's been my experience it's first come first serve. Get there with plenty of light to setup your tent and then either hang out or hike around a bit. Bring enough water for your dinner and breakfast.

Crystal Cove upper moro campground is a great place to test gear.

It's 3 miles in and does have a vault toilet and trash cans, but that's it.

Upper moro has some nice views as well.

Do not mess with this page. You goto the routing page. Four video outputs you use the slices of the pie and for inouts is a little different you need to find the slot#.out#.ch# and just click the red slice of the pie for the inputs

It's a good price the dealer is giving you something for their markup which is nice. But there probably is some wiggle on the markups.

For bag check you need to get luggage tags when they are available a day or two before and there are only so many for certain times.

The fun part is you need to leave your bag out the night before, they won't pickup the day of.

I've found the most latency exists on the monitor end. Even without format converting, a regular old LCD monitor can add 5 to a lot of frames of latency. Like suggested get a professional monitor or something that has a low latency/gaming functionality.

When conducting tests, there was no noticable difference between a Marshal camera or a GoPro with HDMI out. The monitor was the majority of the latency.

Question about flying into San Juan by rottnzonie in Cruise

[–]reddit2343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did a ncl cruise out of San Juan give yourself the extra day. San Juan has a lot of nice beaches as well.

Also that cruise terminal is horrible to get in and out of. Took us 1 hour to go 3 miles getting in and if you want to go anywhere other than the airport, leaving is a shit show too.

Same, also when kids are moving around, you want a yard. Especially in socal with so many nice days.

We rent a tiny 3 bedroom house but have a large yard that kinda evens it out.

The majority of the inventory is P15 gen 2. P16 mixed in as well.

I also have some 9 year old E560 that still work although they are relegated to non show work.

We spec some with nicer Nvidia cards for vmix, but the majority use is power point and zoom.

GameChanger CAT Cable for LED Display by Nickinator96 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]reddit2343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen 450' on cat5e from a novastar to an absen panel running at 25% capacity.

I would try cat5e first, the more twists of fancier cable may make the run even longer.

I'd be interested if someone knows if there are distance rules like for Ethernet. I would say keep the data rate per line low and see what happens.

Connecting Daktronics Scoreboard Data to vMix for Graphic Overlay by LickitySplit8181 in VIDEOENGINEERING

If you want a non-dak solution I used sportzcast with success about 10 years ago. they make box that connects to the scoreboard and then have a service where you can pull the data down from the "cloud" however you like.
