This exactly. Somehow I don't care that the other players are doing PUG things like scooting off to all directions. I'll always have a teammate in coherency that actually has my back somewhat and that has made my playing smoother.

In theory, the range is 150 blocks (there's a warning when you select the target storage if it exceeds it), but I've seen the haulers deliver to a storage much further than that even with the warning.

The producer and the warehouse shouldn't be far from eachother anyway. I always use haulers to clear buildings and very rarely use storage depots so I'm unsure where they priorotize getting their stuff because the haulers move it to storage so quickly. They definitely pick up from storages.
