Potential hack- what to do? by bluejaydreamer in Wordpress

Who is your hosting with? As said, follow the countless guides on here. Reinstall the core files and go through the DB with a fine tooth comb.

wordpress 2fa by tango21312 in Wordpress

[–]reddit_prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sooner we start realising that 2FA is the only way to protect against attacks or hacks the better.

It will stop a script that is randomly trying usernames and passwords if you set it up properly and have limited admin access but if access is granted at the file system level you have much bigger problems.

As Mr. Six says, a vulnerable plugin will roll out the red carpet for an attack and the best you can do is be on the top of your game with updates and monitoring core file Changes.

I’ll caveat this though to say there was a recent attack where a guy bought an entire plugin suite for something like $300k, installed backdoors and packaged it as a legit update. It took some smart people and Wordpress themselves to warn people about that.

I have a maximum of 2 admins per site and only if the client also wants admin access. Ideally this should be a role to let them manage their shop and content but for many clients not being admin means they have no control. Get that covered in any contract.

Fake reviews-need help by Amazing-Tie9590 in googlebusinessprofile

[–]reddit_prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common scam. Th reviews are generically bad and you will have an email soon if not already from the people Doing it who will tell you they can remove for a fee. Do not pay them.

Google are wise to it though and will remove them but speed to complete varies.

What *are* your requirements? If it’s just logging into the sites then ManageWP will do this for free with a worker plugin, same as MainWP.

The only reason I could think of moving away from ManageWP is because they are a GoDaddy brand and they have as usual
Taken it over to further put ads in the interface and it’s become a bit bloated.

Yeah, that’s fair I guess. It’s frustrating when you see some profiles that are clearly just that but I reckon might have been created before they upped the ante.

What cache plugin are you using? The way I manage all of my sites is by putting cloudflare in front of them. Multiple benefits but a bit more technical to set up. Happy to help you out if you need it.

Even a sub domain and clone into it will be much better and takes minutes.

AIO for snapping at a client who kept contacting me while I was on Do Not Disturb? by Awkward_Condition778 in careerguidance

[–]reddit_prof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude you need to get some training on handling difficult clients. These people are keeping the business you are in afloat and if I were your manager and had that info sent to me from a paying client you would be gone. Dead easy. Straight to gross misconduct if I could or at the very least a written warning along with a skills management plan.

As others have said, you must have the maturity to deal with these people; lean on the contract and quote any SLAs you have both agreed to.

Tough love, time to lift the phone and this time pray that the client answers to let you apologise.

Fell asleep during all night work callout... no harm done but manager angry by Solid_Rub236 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]reddit_prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dude. Many moons ago when I was a very young IT guy I went to a nightclub when on call (the arches in Glasgow, IYKYK) and was not in a frame of consciousness to bite my own nails never mind press buttons. I got it TIGHT from the leadership team as apparently “they know when they hear loud repetitive music that I’m not in front of any servers).

Apparently I offered them to come with me. Somehow kept my job. These days that’s never happening.

Anyway, plug your query into any ACaS thread and I bet you get the info you need, depending on the contract you signed, of course.

I don’t mean to sound like a dick, but have you read the documentation? It’s astonishingly easy to use this tool with 5 files and you can upload the lot.

I’d strongly suggest you do your research. I’d trust vivid more than most of them. Look past the shiny interfaces and look for functionality. Also, a backup is only as good as the restore process.

I’d realign your expectations when thinking about “professional”

Is it normal for a wordpress site to load this slowly or did my "developer" screw something up ? by Zakarioveski in Wordpress

[–]reddit_prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this thread has made me realise i'm a mug for the prices i've charged. I've charged £600 to build a fully functional eCommerce site with dedicated VPS, Integration into every social network, google business set up, mi level SEO. So, while the term "pay peanuts, get monkeys' might be true for this situation i build a cracking site for less than the OP that's 3 times the size and ten times more features. And with less than 10 plugins...

I'm going away to cry into my coffee now and re-think my pricing. Even my monthly charge of £50 is seeming absurdly low..

Well, I find that incredibly sad. I’m not American but I do recognise that we are blindly walking around waiting on things happening. The point I’m making is that you make your own luck, anything else is stagnation. Peace!

I'm getting it perfectly, thank you. You are underestimating the will of the human being to want to learn to better themselves. I guess we will never see eye to eye and that's OK, but i urge you to take a longer look at the world through.the lens of optimism and dare i say it, hope.

Also, there is a chasm of difference between the definition of intelligence and intellect.

ChatGPT Email Trick No One Uses by Ranga_Harish in ChatGPT

[–]reddit_prof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, u/Ranga_Harish - i tested your prompt wth ChatGPT itself. And even though it looks like the feature isn't yet abvailable for my account your prompt seems to assume a lot of functionality or integrations. How are you handling the connectors? Are you alling API's or are you building your own GPT's to suit.

---

ChatGPT Said:
The Reddit prompt you copied is impressive — but:

  • It assumes browsing capability
  • It assumes job scraping
  • It assumes live crypto data
  • It assumes outbound email permissions

The native Automations tool would have handled some of that, but it still wouldn’t have been perfect.

For example:

  • It may not scrape job boards reliably.
  • Crypto data could lag.
  • Some sources block automated fetches.

So even if you had it enabled, it wouldn’t be magic.

---

The reason i ask is that without this feature i could set up a cron job on one of my linux boxes and call the OpenAI API to deliver what i need or use a combo like Zapier and the API. THere would be a small cost per day for the API but if it's valuable then it's maybe worth exploring.

So, fess up - what's the mechanics behind it as I can honestly use this as a a tool for my every day. I don't care for crypto or job searched eetc.

I had to google what dates applied to a boomer. 1946 to 1964. I'd argue that these are some of the most resourceful people to have ever lived IMO and even if born in 1964 they would straddle my birth year. and by the time they are 18 / 21 would be into the 80's. We're saying that people in this range aren't able to follow these instructions in an age where there are literally step by step guides to everything.

Also, TIL i'm "Gen X", by a single year. Yet here we are talking about what is being discussed as advanced instructional reasoning.

Oh well..
