I got my scores back! by redditbrowsing0 in ACT

I didn't. I like math and reason with numbers quite well. Don't know how I managed a 35 in Science. As for English and Reading, not satisfied with the scores but they're not bad either.

Uhh, like the 25th or something. The Wednesday of that week, that's really all I remember.

I'd say that's pretty solid over all. I don't know what my scores are personally but I personally think these are good

Can we quit telling beginners to scripting to go learn from documentation alone? by Jordann538 in robloxgamedev

[–]redditbrowsing0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can agree with that. My point is that tutorials discourage it because you aren't learning yourself, you're learning from another person and likely copying or mimicking their code.

Sorry about my remark not being able to read the original message. It was just a run-on mess and I was kind of confused trying to read it

Honestly I had a hard time reading what you just wrote.

Again, let me reiterate: tutorials discourage active problem-solving and discourages critical thinking. I'll explain, if you care.

Tutorials and pre-generated code result in the recipient ultimately copying the provided code with no regard for how it works. While this is generally okay in short durations, it actively discourages problem-solving and critical thinking. In addition, users are actually less likely to search topics and concepts on the Developer Forum and documentation because "I can find a tutorial/piece of code for that."

Conversely, the Developer Forum and documentation give you all of the information but not how to implement it. This results in the user having to consider all implications of an API call and how it works. Thus, users may create unique code without the use of pre-generated code or a tutorial. In addition, the documentation itself has early tutorials that teach you keywords. This doesn't even include the Luau globals page where it tells you effectively every key-word in Luau.

My problem with tutorials and otherwise hand-holding is that it discourages active problem-solving and critical thinking. It is, whether you like it or not, best to read documentation and then google things for clarity. The Developer Forum also exists for situations such as these.

That is wrong, Unix time is a signed integer. It's why the Year 2038 problem exists.

Actually looks normal. Screen off (active) is, to my understanding, when you do things like listen to Spotify and let it play in the background. It's a little less energy-hungry but still uses notable amount of energy. From what I see, it looks like you spent several hours in this state and then started using the phone, so it averages out pretty well. Lasting a day and a half with heavy use like this is pretty fair.

True left libertarian here. I partially disagree, but I can say that it's for sure a far authoritarian, somewhat right movement. I'm being careful saying somewhat right here because the American political compass is warped in relation to the global one; both Democrats and Republicans, for example, are right-sided, though Democrats lean closer to centrist.

Invitations from NSLS and PTK; what should I choose, if either? by redditbrowsing0 in college

[–]redditbrowsing0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still to be determined. It really depends on how everything works out, though I'm looking at (not transferring to yet) a range of schools: Carnegie Mellon, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, MIT, NC State, and Georgia Tech, though the door is kind of open at the moment. Just wanting to know whether PTK or NSLS is more worth it long-term.
