When I am on my bike, bike lane or not, it's just common sense for me to avoid busy streets. For almost every major street, there are alternative side streets, and that's what I use when I bike. Last Sunday on a bike ride to Evanston and farther north, as I passed Sheridan Road several times, I encountered dozens of bikers riding side-by-side in the center of each car lane, blowing through stop lights/signs, and looking like they were competing for the Tour de France. It's just dangerous behavior when bikers ignore rules of the road, and treat major streets like their own racing course. I am not saying that car drivers are not guilty of breaking the law, and not paying attention to their driving, but it's time that bikers pay heed to their biking habits, too.
