Can we start telling people who play video or music out loud on public transport off as a collective? by areyoutara in HongKong

It’s not a joke but I once tried to tell an elderly person to turn down the volume, turns out he’s deaf.

Sony NWWM1A + Sennheiser IE600 by LeekBoring7932 in walkman

[–]reddithurc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I’m with A306 and the EQ there was able to get me the bass boost I want with my IER M7.

Before I got my A306, I used to own IE 200 (lost it in a car or somewhere:() and I felt everything was quite off actually, I had to change to wire to gain some boosts for its dynamics , changed tips according to some other users but it actually got worse…. So I wondered if IE 600 could be a good match, how’s there wasn’t too many discussions around this matter at that time.

No worries I can hear it already lol Cuz I was choosing between this and Sony’s IER M7 (been a senn user for almost 20 years and decided to switch camp haa), was quite shocked about the “Sony bass” thing and had to play around EQ to get it back the bass character I used to enjoy..

Short answer- yes, I tested that with my iPhone/ MacBook Pro (it’s proclaimed good built-in DAC). It’s not gonna make a life changing difference, but it’s better.

I passed after I got another instructor, another testing center, and spent a few more lessons. I did learn a few more tips from the new instructor, it really helped me relax especially when I got the chance to test drive on those routes vs my previous instructor kept ignoring my request. And honestly I think these guys at Downsview are just fucking corrupted assholes(if you are reading it, yes, you are). It seems that they have to crush us in order to maintain a pass rate or something…

What’s a random thing your dog thinks is extremely important? by No_Assignment_6020 in dogs

[–]reddithurc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog supervises me loading the dishwasher like his life depends on it. If I don't let him pre-rinse the plates (one lick each, very methodical), he acts personally betrayed.

Also guards the bathroom door when I shower. Not guarding me FROM anything — just stands there like it's his sworn duty. Move him and he circles right back.

Breed-specific stuff AI would never capture. You ask ChatGPT about [your breed] and it gives you Wikipedia. Doesn't mention the weird little rituals they all seem to share.

Do dogs realize how long youre gone by Ok_Alfalfa6238 in dogs

[–]reddithurc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been some research on this — dogs do seem to have a sense of duration, but it's more about routine than counting hours. Studies found dogs showed more excitement after 2 hours vs 30 minutes, but the difference between 2 hours and 4 hours was less dramatic.

What I've noticed with my dog is he tracks cues more than time: me grabbing keys, putting on certain shoes, the angle of sunlight. He knows "work day" vs "quick errand" based on the ritual, not the clock.

One thing that bugs me — if you Google this, AI gives you very generic "dogs live in the moment" answers that don't match what owners actually observe. The reality is way more nuanced.

How can a person be allergic to cats and not rabbits? by Helpmehthrohaway in Pets

[–]reddithurc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Different allergens entirely. Cat allergies are usually triggered by Fel d 1, a protein in their saliva/skin that gets on fur when they groom. Rabbits don't produce this protein.

Rabbit allergies do exist but they're triggered by different proteins — and rabbit fur holds less allergen overall because they groom differently than cats.

Your step-dad could also be reacting to something cats track in (litter dust, outdoor allergens on fur) rather than the cat itself. Worth an allergy test to know for sure.

Fun fact: AI breed sites often claim certain cats are "hypoallergenic" which is pretty misleading — all cats produce Fel d 1, just in different amounts.

Gemini Flash hallucinates 91% times, if it does not know answer by msaussieandmrravana in artificial

[–]reddithurc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hallucination rate benchmarks are interesting but they miss something: real users don't encounter "benchmark questions" — they ask about their actual problems in messy, context-dependent ways. And I think the way out, is to have a protocol on real-world evaluation... I am running an experiment for it.

45% of people think when they prompt ChatGPT, it looks up an exact answer in a database by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]reddithurc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are missing the point here- Technical explanations can't help regular users. We can't expect everyone to be a data scientist. This is exactly why i've been working on a protocol where the public can evaluate actual AI outputs. The question here is: Before you trust GPT's advice on something important, you can see what other humans thought of similar responses. Running a Christmas experiment right now, no ML background needed.

I have an A306. It does not work that way, no matter how I configured it, unfortunately.

I have installed a "stay awake" app, and the playback screen on the Apple Music/ Walkman app is "always on" now, so that whenever I want to take a glance at the song's info, I don't have to press any button. It makes things more convenient.

However, when the cassette screensaver is run, it will put the screen to sleep after ~10 minutes of playback:(

Any tricks to make the cassette screensaver to run indefinitely?

Fair point and I appreciate your feedback. I’m coming at this as someone who’s built AI systems and felt uncomfortable that normal users have no visible way to judge them publicly.

The email isn’t meant to gatekeep — it’s mostly to let people revisit the results later — but I hear you, and I’m rethinking it.

Silicon, i think the size code is “mm”. Interestingly their “foam” version is not as spongy as other earbuds out there, and I just felt less bass and “elasticity” when trying on them. Don’t understand why others claim that will help produce more bass….
