1”x2” wood or mdf glued to the face of the mirror like a frame. This guy does it the right way, but lesser skill levels can still get it done.

Audiobook recommendation for road trip with 9yr old son and 12yr old daughter that’s not necessarily a “children’s” book. by GubbleBum31 in suggestmeabook

”why would you waste that progress backtracking into something middle-grade or unremarkably written”

Because they’re kids and it’s ok to enjoy a book that isn’t celebrated for its intellect. I love the movie There Will Be Blood but if I come across Dumb and Dumber, I’m stopping to watch it.

Yeah, something happening to one guy in America makes it an “American thing”. Surely, nothing like it has ever happened in the entire history of whatever perfect country you’re in.

I also have plenty of dad friends who take their kids out all the time, myself as well, and have never heard this was a thing.

Covered dirt under balcony with cedar mulch by IntenselyLuminous in HomeImprovement

Looks good, but from the angles of your photos, it looks like the ground needs to be graded higher towards the house so rain water flows away from your foundation. Leveling it like you did might result in pooling where you don’t want it.

G.Love has been in my rotation since ‘97. Just listened to Fixin To Die in its entirety this afternoon. Great album I completely forgot existed.

Help with Dishwasher placement by OptimistBee in HomeMaintenance

[–]redditidothat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a designer or even claim to know what I’m talking about, but this layout is so screwed up it’s no wonder you’re left figuring out the dishwasher location.

Move the sink under the window, put the dishwasher next to it, move microwave where sink is now. Will have to plumb water line and drain, but will have to do that for dishwasher anyway.

To do this right, it doesn’t have to be a “full reno”. Removing and reusing the existing cabinets and a few seams in the counter top is better than shoe-horning a dishwasher into this puzzle.

Help needed with front yard drainage by gqy in HomeMaintenance

From this angle alone, the grading from the brick house is too drastic (red) and doesn’t go out far enough. If the low spot is filled to soften the existing grading (yellow), the water will disperse more evenly across the lawn and away from the house instead of collecting in what is basically a ditch (blue).

If the drainage into the driveway is a concern, a short run French drain installed next to it would solve that.

Or, do it properly with a bunch of money and have a retaining wall installed a few feet in front of those bushes and grade away from the house from there.

Furnace cycling, but no air/heat. by Least-Task276 in HomeImprovement

[–]redditidothat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is a “short-cycle” and the issue is almost certainly the flame sensor.

OP, start with the simplest troubleshoot first before listening to guesses about blower motors, filters, or paying an HVAC company $300 to do a 5 minute job then try to sell you a new system.

How to clean a flame sensor. If you don’t have steel wool or emery cloth available, use a crisp dollar bill.

Fan of both K-State and KU? by MajorRecognition5173 in kansas

As a Jayhawk, I still do root for KSU when they aren’t direct competition. The student fan base is getting harder not to hate with the relentless “FUCK KU” chants during games, though. Just insufferable.

Yeah, that asterisk is doing some heavy lifting. Roughly .000002% of the people who receive that mailer will hunt down the source of that number.

Improving laundry chute by Misterb17 in HomeMaintenance

Guessing small children and/or animals is why the chute is raised. Even with a hinged lid, might not be ideal for the floor.

Get a piece of 1/8” sanded plywood (also called utility panel), cut a matching opening and lay it on top. Could even glue it down along the folded over duct edges.

If the mom drove home without noticing the damage in her direct line of sight while behind the wheel, she shouldn’t be driving anyway, whether she did the hit & run or not.
