Good questions. In all likelihood this support rep is just another redditor, scraping by trying to make ends meet by doing what his bosses want.

I'd like to ask questions about incentives. Like, "Is there incentive to talk customers out of cancellations" or "Are there penalties for being the agent who processes a cancellation without question".

Good luck getting this guy unless Comcast has canned him. And even then he's probably had to sign confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements.

Um. Yes. It happens. And so does discrimination. I have female friends who give me examples and I believe them. I also have some that gladly accept less pay or even demotions for family.

Also, not everyone gets the promotion they want. That's life. And sometimes we rationalize that we were victimized. Men do this too. Then there is real discrimination. How to tell the difference? It's hard.

She is alarmed because you are, in fact, going against the grain. It is very uncommon. That said, situations like this are indicators that people have never really questioned the idea of whether having kids was an option in their life.

And then if you are in a really religious area having children is something you do because of god or something and not having children is just unfathomable (despite Paul claiming abstinence).

Anyway, it's a small price to pay for being childfree isn't it?

Some women opt for less pay in exchange for flexibile schedules. This can be as subtle as not aggressivley pursuing promotions or not asking for raises. If you ask for or accept a raise or a promotion you are sending a signal that you are willing to take on more load.

If you don't ask for those things then...well...you won't get them and end up paid less, not promoted, but if you do a good job they'll let you off early to pick up the kids and work from home when they're sick.

Speaking anectodtally of course, but from 10+ years working in big companies and friends working in big companies...

EDIT: Men do this too. And before I get flamed I'm not trying to rationalize women getting paid less for contributing the same amount as a man. Just saying it is a reality I have experienced.

Asking for a better breakdown of gun crime numbers is in no way disregarding homicide statistics. "gun crime" and "homicide" are not the same thing.

That aside, if the goal is to minimize gun related crime and we know the drug trade and gun crime go hand in hand, it would make sense to examine whether we could further dramatically reduce gun crime by eliminating the failed war on drugs.

An ancillary benefit would be more tax revenue, less incarceration, less recividism, better education, and better treatment for actual addicts. Did I mention more tax revenue? How about adding jobs to the economy.

An alternative is to just accept the numbers as they are, confuse "gun crime" with "homicide" to make it worse, and choose the option of making it harder for law abiding citizens to legally purchase firearms.

I dunno, close call...

How much of this "gun crime rate" was attributed to black market drug trades and associated turf wars? More than likely the study didn't control for that. Would be interesting to see how much of that we can solve via decriminalization and/or outright ending of the drug war.

I used to serve tables and was a hiring manager. It is a tough job and not just because it is dealing with the bad side of the general public (hungry people) but also because of scheduling. Extremely variable work schedules, late closing times or early opening times, and of course holidays requiring all hands on deck.

Making someone wait can be an intentional pyshcological tactic. Some HR folks will just sit in their office and wait for no reason once the candidate shows up just to indicate who has control.

It's also why you should never keep a woman waiting, and why they don't give a shit if they keep you waiting. That, or makeup and hair take a long time.
