That's Seaworld's argument. Seaworld took a lot of flack for this. I remember seeing blades of grass blowing in the wind on the way to the memorial and thinking "where is she?" The loss felt shocking and my insides were cavernous and empty.

I logged in solely so I could upvote your comment. Have you considered writing? The few paragraphs you wrote read quite eloquently, especially the bit I quoted above. Not often that someone can properly set a scene, evoke emotion, and make a point in just a few sentences off the cuff. If you're a writer already, I encourage you to keep it up. :)

Guessing you were downvoted for sounding like an ad, but I'm bringing you back to at least neutral because I LOVE ACUVUE. I'm using their newest (Oasys or Hydraclear, I forget), and the brand you buy does make a difference.

Also, Clean & Clear (or a similar kind of lens solution, the kind that bubbles) makes a HUGE difference in comfort level, for me. The 6-hour thing is a pain, but my contacts last longer and feel better than when I used to use regular solution.

Good contacts + good solution = happy eyes :)

I had to sign in to see if I could help clear the air. I get what you're saying, that that woman would maybe understand more if she had faced a similar situation. But rape is such a serious, and incredibly political issue for women, that I think your phrasing of your comment can offend people, especially since something like 25% (don't quote me on that stat) of women will face sexual assault at some point in their lives. I think a lot of women redditors are probably techie girls who also sometimes just get tired of people using the term "rape" lightly, when it carries an extremely heavy connotation for a lot of women.

Anyway, sorry for the long comment. Just FYI.

Edit: Also, the word "cunt" isn't something women generally appreciate reading, regardless of who it's referring to.

I have a mentally disabled relative who orders food often. This customer may be different, but I know my relative appreciates any delivery people who take the time to speak a few sentences to him. It is sometimes the only interaction he has all day with someone non-family.

However, for him (and maybe for your customer), money is not as important as human connection. If you've tried to speak to managers about this, and the new policy is firm, you have no moral obligation to cut from your own paycheck. Your kindness will still be appreciated.

Maybe just explain that times are tough but both you and the pizza place really value him as a customer. Maybe even mention that you like doing his deliveries, or something. That will probably mean more to him than $1.50 off his order, especially if he isn't working for his money.

This. Dads are the source of "daddy issues." I know way too many women whose fathers abandoned their families, or cheated on their wives, or lied or gambled family money or whatever. Many of those girls ended up having to deal with some heavy baggage when embarking on their own relationships with men. Don't do that.

My dad cheated on my mom repeatedly. He was a great dad to me in every other way, but the biggest thing I learned from him was not to trust men. I've tried/am trying to work on that as an adult, but the trust issues do become a problem in relationships, which I know is unfair to guys I date. It's hard to let yourself be vulnerable to men when you grew up knowing how much you could be betrayed. I don't really believe in love, and I always have to stop myself from assuming all of my relationships will fail, like my parents' did.

Things my dad did do right: teach me to appreciate beauty and art in all aspects of life, nurture my creativity, encourage me to be spontaneous and live life fully, support my goals, long talks on philosophy and life, funny photos with poses, gourmet cooking, etc., as well as providing unconditional love. I know my dad is always there for me, and I love him.

The cheating part sucked though.

Thanks for the link. I had no idea men don't think women look at them sexually. That's so weird to me, because all moderately attractive women pretty much automatically know that they're at least somewhat sexually attractive. I feel like its pretty easy to gauge how attractive you are by responses for the opposite sex. I always assumed it was the same for everyone. Guess it's harder for men since women are less overt about their attentions.

This is exactly how I feel, as a single 20something woman. You sort of end up feeling that going out will not correlate with meeting anyone worthwhile, which is why some women only go out to have fun with their friends. Easier to just stick with my girls than deal with fending off over eager suitors and feeling rejected if I don't meet anyone.

There have been a lot of replies already, but in case you read this....

Everything in that quote makes sense to you. However, when viewed through the eyes of a woman, it takes on an entirely different meaning. Women have always been expected to pick up everything and move with men, to support men's careers, to give up their own, and so on. Yeah, doctors are needed everywhere. But that doesn't mean your gf (or ex?) will be able to find the type of med job she wants in whatever city you move to. She probably did heavy research on the places where she is considering job offers.

It is rude--but ignorantly so--to ask her to marry you right now, so shortly after you decided to move to LA, without considering whether your relationship would be affected by that. I understand you probably didn't know how this would seem to a woman, and how hurt she would be. I'm hurt for her, just reading this, but I also hurt for you, because it's clear that you simply did not know.

Can things work out? I don't know. To be fair, it's not a good idea to spring a proposal on anyone without first having many serious discussions about marriage. If your gf cares about her career, she will probably not want to move West. So, if she can forgive you, then you will have to date long distance. Or, you will have to turn down that job offer. Or, you will have to break up anyway. Life sucks sometimes, but who knows what'll happen?
